PV/Lee-14th annual Battle of the Boot. Boot Bowl began in 1994 to my knowledge. Powell Valley is 11-3 in the Battle of the Boot. They look to make it 12-3. Lee High has gotten better. They look to make their record 4-11 in the Battle of the boot and 5-15 in the series I think. Powell Valley is a very young team this year. Their in experience could make them struggle. Powell Valley 27, Lee 24. Game of the week!

Appy/Castlewood- A much improved Castlewood team over the years against an inexperienced Appalachia. Hate to say it Appalachia but: Castlewood 28, Appalachia 14.

Clintwood/Coeburn-Clintwood comes enters the 2008 season as the LPD favourite, possible Region D Division 1 favorite, and could contend for state this year if all goes well. But that is 3 1/2 months away. Coeburn, a much improved team and recently new member of the Cumberland since 2007 comes as the Cumberland favorite. Clintwood opens up the 2008 season with a dominating win over Coeburn. Clintwood 49, Coeburn 13.

Burton/Rye Cove-Burton exited the 2007 season with a disappointing loss in the Region D Divion 1 Finals to Clintwood. They come back but lose Ethan Stewart. I believe Coleman is still there? Rye Cove has had it rough the last few seasons. Burton 38, Rye Cove 0.

JJ Kelly/Twin Springs-Not much I know about these two but I'll go on a limb and say Kelly 42, Twin Springs 14.

Pound/Patrick Henry-Talk of some slight improvement at Pound. Still predicted to finish at the bottom. Patrick Henry 40, Pound 15.

Gate City/Richlands-Gate City in 2007 began to rebound after the infamous 4-6 record in 2006. They finished as the CMD Runner-up to Lebanon in the CMD's first season of existance. Marched on to become the VHSL Division 2 State Runners-up to Gretna who defeated them 52-0. Richlands marched on to become the Division 2 State Runners-up to Monticello from Charlottesville who beat them 36-22. Gate City is looking to end their 3 year drought against Richlands. I say that it will happen. Gate City 28, Richlands 13.

Kelly 22 - The Springs 0

Patrick Henry 14 - Pound 12

Gate City 28 - Richlands 26 This one could go either way. Richlands just sort of re loads but GC appears to have more speed and weapons this season. I look for Vaughn to have a good season. This game could also be a lot lower scoring because both teams have solid D's. I pick GC because of home field. BTW, Richlands has a new turf and it looks great.

I don't where anyone has said that they'll be "vastly improved." Given the key positions to fill with new faces, I'd say its difficult to make a call on how things will go right now. But if they're greatly improved from last season this should be one heck of season for them. I hope that's all true, haha.

This should be one of the better Battle of the Boots. Lee and PV have alot in common as far as personnel goes,having lost several key starters from a year ago. I think that PV will have the athletes to pull this one out. 21-14 Vikes

Appalachia-Castlewood
To hear folks talk,the Dawgs are in for a long year while folks are picking the Blue Devils to make a serious run at the CD crown. Here's the rub though: notice that I said CD. Appy has the size to ground and pound the Devils into submission,and that's excatly what is going to happen. 20-8 DAWGS

Clintwood-Coeburn
The Wave have a Homecoming opponent early this year. Yet another reminder as to why the Knights are glad to be in the CD. 41-13 Wave

J.I. Burton-Rye Cove
Speaking of Homecoming....speed kills 40-13 Raiders

Patrick Henry-Pound
The kids from Pound have heart,and I have mad respect for the kids who are sticking through that mess,but sadly there's just not enough of them 35-7 PH

Game of the night,and I always hate trying to pick this one. Two good programs. The Devils are due,and they'll deliver (maybe [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif[/img]) 21-20 GC

J.J.Kelly at Twin Springs

ZERO doubt that TS will be the most improved team in the region. Mike Castle takes the helm at TS. You do not coach alongside Nick Colobro for 12 years and learn nothing. He has basically everybody returning,and if the Tribe aren't careful they could be walking into one of those "trap games" ala Rye Cove back in the Saunders days. The JJK ground game should churn out big yardage and rumble to the win 35-14. The CD is going to be tired of seeing the LPD before the night is done.

They know who I am and most all have met me in person--and know who I am either under my screen name/real name. I'm not a mystery man who's calling people by their given name by coincidence while hiding behind a screen name. HUGE difference there, Sir.

This Friday could be ugly for alot of teams giving that the hurricain will bring a ton of rain for this friday nights games so for the teams that will play on Friday.


PV over Lee by 7 (If the weather is as bad as i think it will be PV will be glad that they are no longer a passing team) Lee seems to be slow and PV has the atholets to pull out the win in what should be a great game

Appy over CW by 6 - I was picking CW untill Battle beat the snot out of them (I know it was only a scrimage but dang)

Clintwood over Coeburn by 40 - Sloppy weather will limit the passing game but Clintwoods big Line and strong running game should put this one away early

Norton over RC by 50 - Bad weather will limit the passing game but the Jet will be in full force and IMHO RC can not run with Norton enough to stay in this one long

Kelly over TS by 21 - Kelly is looking strong going into the season and lets face it CD teams do not do well vs the LPD

Pound over PH by 6 - Call it an upset or wishful thinking but I think Pound is due and the weather and drive both favor the wildcats in this one

Holston by 21 over St Paul - Holston is the early Region C Div1 favorit and ST Paul is not picked to finish in the top half of there on district

Gate City over Richlands by 21 - Richlands is not currently firing on all cilanders plus bad weather favors GC's styal of play over Richlands

Just an update on storm..........it LOOKS like now it is slowly moving east of us....but that is now. anything could happen.

1) Castlewood @ Appalachia- Appy is a very young team and when the blue devils come from castlewood and march in to Riggs stadium, it won't be pretty.

2)Rye Cove @ J.I.Burton- The JIB Raiders looked awesome on offense in the jamboree, but the defense needs some help. Lebanon is tough, but Rye Cove is no Lebanon. Not now and not never

Burton- 45 Rye Cove- 6

3)Clintwood @ Coeburn- Clintwood looks to take the LPD title this year and everybody in Clintwood is jumping for Joy. Coeburn has home-field advantage but not against Clintwood. Clintwood rolls in this game

Clintwood- 54 Coeburn-6

4) J.J.Kelly @ Twin Springs- In Wise, the reservation is excited about this season. Sproles is back and looks good. Kelly, bring 1 home for the LPD!!

Kelly- 22 Twin Springs-8

5) Pound @ Pat. Henry- Pound is in a rebuilding mode this year and for years to come. Pound will surprise a-lot of teams this year in the LPD. Although i picked them 5th in the LPD, they will win this game

6) Lee High @ Powell Valley-GAME OF THE WEEK- Phil Robbins' Vikings host the might and bright Generals from Lee this week and what a match-up this will turn into be! PV is young and need to rebuild... I am a LPD fan myself, but Phil, can't pick you this week...so Put this in your pipe and smoke it!!!

I wouldn't really call it an upset if Gate City defeats Richlands.

I agree Richlans has been on a good run the last several years but the chinks in the armer started to show some last season and this year with 20 starters back more than a few are picking GC in this one

Some people I've talked to thought that our Pioneers winning the district was a fluke. The only fluke last year was Gate City's win over us and their run to the state finals. Had we won that game, we might not have beat Gretna but Musick would have been a lot stronger runner against Gretna than Tyler Parks or the Anderson kid. Lebanon is getting ready to establish a dynasty in the CMD. Remember the last name Cobb. GC and Lee are going to remember him this year.

Just wanna say that I think Lee High has a damn good coach, I would do anything for Coach Sanders. I learned alot from him in the short time I was around him, wish he would have popped up at Coeburn a few years earlier than he did.

Gretna would have eaten Lebanon for breakfast.

GC was better than Leb last year and it was definitely no fluke and I dont care how good your musick would have been, Gretna would have beat them worse than they beat GC
