Time to gloat just a little bit...

I just want to say that I have attempted to maintain a certain amount of realism and conservatism regarding the Clintwood football team this season especially on the main board, but I now must say that we have one hell of a football team.

For the past decade or two (w/ the exception of last year) Clintwood has been in the shadow of either GC, PV, and even Burton at times. GC and PV have been the envy of SWVA football and it just feels good to now see Clintwood's name at the top of everyone's list.

I know its only week 2 and I also know that a pivotal injury is always a heartbeat away, but this team is so big, so strong, so fast, and so well coached, that I honestly do not see them losing a regular season game. I know GC returns a lot, I know Burton has wonderful skill people, I know Lebanon is pretty dang good, and that Volunteer will be very tough, but I dont think any team can physically go toe to toe with us for 4 quarters. We absolutely wear people's asses out at every single position.

I normally dont get this caught up, but it just feels good to be a Greenwave right now. I also do not mean to disrespect any opposing teams or fans and I also welcome any contrary arguments to what I have said.

I truly hope that The Wave has a great season. I'll always be a PV boy and I love BI Salyers to death at JJK, but Clintwood has always been a favorite of mine. The one year I played, we had to bring our best up there just because. I'll be tracking you all. Enjoy!!

GC worries me no matter what. If GC goes on to lose to Appy and John Battle the next couple weeks, I'd still be sure that our best effort would leave us with a 35-7 loss when we played them and all the GC fans saying on here "We played out best game of the year tonight." [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif[/img]. JIB worries me because of the revenge factor. Lebanon is an unknown still the same as Volunteer for me. PV always seems to turn it around for the week they play us as well.

We have an extremely tough schedule lung, but we do have GC, Burton, Lebanon, Kelly, and Volunteer all at home.

Not having to make those long trips to Volunteer and GC really is advantageous to us. Also, not having to go to Lebanon bodes well, that place is fairly hostile.

unless Norton can get the QB's to be on target you can stack against the run and the line will let you in the backfield every play by the 2nd quarter. Appy at times push our d-line and o-line around a bit. Against the likes of Clintwood.....who knows, by then we might be 100% healthy but it isn't starting out great in the health department. another thing that bothered me Friday night was the lack of focus by the players. they didn't know when to be in the game - we played several plays with 10 people on the field. we had players that were NOT hurt sitting on the bench and you look over at the Appy sidelines although they were getting blown out, they did not have one player sitting on the bench. our players talking to "fans" across the fence on the sidelines instead of being focused on the game.. it just bothers me to see that from our team, it bothers me a lot to be honest.

Those same things always bothered me, starbuck. I never for one second sat on a bench during a game. Even in the time that I never stepped foot on the field for a single play. I don't like the chatting with fans either.

One thing that worries me about Clintwood is our (I don't know another word to describe it) "inability" to run up the middle. Most of our success running (other than Robbins who can run up the middle) comes from tosses, sweeps, ect to the outside. I'd like to see Robinson bust a run in the guard/center gap and house it. I think that'd make me feel better.

I think a lot of that has been more play calling than anything. Our best lineman are our tackles and tightends, and I believe we have been exploiting teams to the outside because of that.

Bring home the state title and then you can talk.

Has Burton brought home a state title in recent years? NOT!!
How many times to the title game only to come up empty handed?

Clintwood and Appy both have brought home more titles than Burton has. Oh, I forgot, they brought one home I believe in 1972?

Even the old Jonesville High School has brought home one.

Clintwood can and may very well go all the way this year. They may not get touched by any Region D Division I teams. Norton has played them tough the last few years though.

Norton really is a dangerous team. burton, it's been a while since Clintwood has been able to gloat a little. Even when Hamilton played, they wasn't this good.

I could give 2 shits about Burton or CW. Im just saying, until a LPD team brings home a state title, all this "talk" is meaningless.


BTW Im not knocking CW...Ive said before they are the best team in the LPD.

I don't know how many plays in the first half Burton had only 10 on D in the first half. Once they called a timeout for it, but it wouldn't have mattered, Appy only had 10 on O at that time as well. I even asked the safety once to count his players. Then I asked how many he had, and he said 10. Then he just looked at me. I said, you do know you can play with 11 right?

No talk, just some long awaited optimism.

The reality is that our schedule is very tough and the road is going to be very long, that is if we are even fortunate enough to travel it the entire way.

However, the fact remains that no team, at least in the LPD, can match our physicality at every single position.

It is hard to believe that Wise has won state in football more recently thsn Clintwood. The Wave are due,and I have nothing but respect for that program. I have said it before: Do exactly what our baseball team did just a few months ago,and that is prove that the hype is warranted. I agree with you 100%. I meant no slight towards CW. I have said, several times, they are the best in the LPD.

I know now. Clintwood will beat us by 28 points. Kelly pushed our d-line around like they were a JV team. There were holes that my mon could have run through.
Pick one QB and live and die with him please. the 2 QB system IS NOT working.

I'd just like to see Clintwood's starters play more than a quarter. We had 3 int's returned for td's in the first half, 2 punts returned for td's in the first half, 1 offensive score (they said on the radio Clintwood only had 5 offensive snaps in the first half), and 1 KOR in the second half.

We had 5 offensive plays in the first quarter. Honestly my reason my stats are off so far is trying to freaking gets where turnovers occured and giving yardage for that. I zigged when I should have zagged.

I guess the good side of Clintwood starters not having to play much is that they are actually coming out of the gates and playing, something that we've struggled to do the last few years.

Freddie, I think the best thing for you to do would be to ditch the PDA PDQ.

That is a serious concern to me. Not only actually getting into game condition, but the adversity factor as well.

Add to that the fact that Vol only has 1 kid going both ways and late game condishing becomes a BIG consern

That's what some of us were talking about last night.

I mean its great to win by 50, but we have a very unforgiving schedule ahead.

Game condition cannot be achieved in practice. I guess we have 9 or 10 players going both ways, which is scary to think about.

With new construction there will always be a few unforseen situations but I pray that that one is resolved by next week [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/sick.gif[/img]

Oh I forgot about the post earlier about the construction project over there. How is it going?

Not so well, thats why they will crap themselves was fairly accurate, so to speak. Apparently there was some of the new plumbing now really behaving. Hopefully everything will be fixed by today, there was a lot of anger (as well as some other things) floating around at Clintwood last night.
