Brett Favre's consecutive start streak or Cal Ripken Jr's?
Favre's...Cal wasn't getting slung on his a$$ 5-10 times per game..lol..and Cal didn't play a position that produced that much wear and tear on his body (ie. pitcher, catcher)
I think its Favre's as well, just seeing what everyone else thinks
I'm a Brett Favre fan, but Cal Ripken's streak is more impressive by far.
i think ripikens is simply because he was doing it every night instead of just once a week
Wow that is a great question............
Cal played normally 6 out of 7 days in the week with one off day for the team.
Brett played 1 out of 7 days and could miss practice to heal up before the next weeks game, Cal didn't have that luxury.
Brett took more of a beating and had more injuries.
So I officially call this one a tie, they equal out in the end
But, if I'm not mistaken, Favre's streak is consecutive starts....Cal's isn't necessiarily. He could come in and pinch hit and keep his streak alive.

True, but he was in the starting line-up everyday.

thats true
but look at how many times cal was used as a PH or something like that during his streak
me thinks you could probably counts them on your fingers
I'm not saying Cal wasn't great and that Cal used that as a crutch to keep his streak alive. I was just pointing out the differences in the player's respective streaks. Both are great accomplishments. One missed start would ruin Favre's streak...but it wouldn't Cal's as long as he played in some capacity.
i think in those instances if cal had to start and play the whole game he would have........just like favres streak is games started
if he was hurt and only played the first series then came out.......he still "started"
I just think getting chased, slung down, and fell on by 310 lb. men presents a much tougher task than standing beside 3rd base or at shortstop and fielding baseballs. I know baseball is daily, but unless you are a pitcher, catcher, or a reckless wall crashing Centerfielder, there isn't as much wear and tear. Plus, at QB, there tend to be freak accidents with bodies flying all around...I think Cal's streak is amazing...but I think Brett's is miraculous.
After a little research, Cal's record includes consecutive starts as well, no pinch hit performances. He was in the line-up everyday.

there is no questioning the physical difference between the two
but just looking at it from a standpoint of pure durability brett has had the luxury of having a week to recover and sometimes with bye weeks even two.......where if not for a bye week there were times he may not have played
brett also got alot of help from mr vicodin.......cal didnt
again while the physical aspect of a qb isnt up for debate against that of a ss.......in terms of pure durability i think cal has to get the edge
cal played 6 sometimes 7 days a week
he played both ends of a DH
he played SS and 3b.......it isnt like he never had to do anything there
Anytime you play a position in the middle of the baseball diamond (C/P/SS/2B/CF) you will end up seeing contact, and it will take a physical toll on your body. Both are impressive, but I will go with Cal overall.
Cal started over 2,200 straight at SS and had a 5+ year streak of playing every inning early in his career.

I'm giving the edge to Ripken. I'm not discounting what Favre has done. It is definitely a remarkable stretch and the risk for serious injury is greater with what Favre does.
As for the streaks, I just think Cal's is more amazing. Brett, though risk of injury is greater, only had to play 16-19 times per year. Once a week. He had the luxury of sitting out during the week. If he was sick, he could always gut it out for that one day and take a few days off.
Cal on the other hand, could not. To play everyday, 162 times a year, 6-7 days a week and not take a day off for as long as he did, in my mind, is a greater accomplishment. Heck, I can't even make it through 180 days of work without taking the occasional sick day. For me to match Cal's streak, I would have to work the next 14.5 years without missing a day. That ain't happening! To match Favre's, I'd just need to work the next year and a half! HAHA
Apples and oranges!
