CW vs Kelly
Kelly geared up to try and stop the run, but Clintwood was able to throw the ball. I think we were like 8-9 at the half. Robinson didn't run the ball much, as Clintwood seemed willing to use some other weapons. Dotson didn't have a lot of time to throw for Kelly tonight, and outside of about 2 drives, Kelly didn't seem to be able to move the ball that much against Clintwood. I think at the half Kelly was negative yards rushing.
Kelly has to pick themselves up, learn from this game like they did from the Norton game earlier in the year. They aren't their yet but if I checked the roster out right, out of 55 players in their program, 21 were freshmen. Not many sophmores, but if they can get some positives out of this season and then motivate the players in the offseason, they may find themselves being a factor for several years.
Now we go to the LPD game of the year. Clintwood and Norton. I'm already sick to my stomach lol

I'm not going to be able to get much sleep the night before this game. It's going to be absolutely huge. Will Clintwood pick itself back up and bust open the undefeated Raiders, or will Burton somehow stun Clintwood, leaving them in the wake of two heartbreaking losses and setting an even more dangerous mood for the seemingly inevitable upcoming playoff meeting between the two?

Re: CW vs Kelly
I think CW wins this one due to both lines.
-
Re: CW vs Kelly
Should be a great game, but I think Clintwood is better.
-
Re: CW vs Kelly
Its going to be interesting, because I don't expect either team to throw everything they have at each other, but its also for the LPD championship, so while they probably won't show everything they have, they won't be able to hold back as much as they have been.
I was extremely nervous of tonights games. One, Clintwood had played an extremely physical Gate City team last week (would someone tell me why Gate City always plays Clintwood so hard, do they really hate Burrhead that much?????) and then got the huge Norton game next week. This was definitely a potential trap game, but Kelly was also coming off a big victory over Powell Valley, so I felt like the factors sort of shorted each other out. I don't think Clintwood played that well honestly. Several mental mistakes that they can't make.
-
Re: CW vs Kelly
as do I...CW will disrupt the backfield and cripple JIB IMO.
-
Re: CW vs Kelly
Half of Coeburn's backfield is bigger than Norton's D line.

I think it bodes well that CW came back from a big emotional loss last week to spank Kelly tonight, especially considering the JIB game next week. IMO, that's a sign of a mature, well-coached team. I hope to, and think I will, watch CW in Salem in Dec.

Re: CW vs Kelly
Clintwood did not play that well at times tonight but I think they showed what makes them so dangerous. They can come at you from all different areas of the field and have several potential big playmakers on the field at any time. I was impressed with Kelley's D-line they stopped Clintwood's run pretty well. But Cwood can throw the ball and has excellent defense and special teams.

Re: CW vs Kelly
lol...JIB fans have turned alot of us into CW backers...I'm with ya boney.

lol...I hear you man! Wanna ride to Salem with me?

I'm open as far as I know...It'd be fun.

Re: CW vs Kelly
Clintwoods passing attack is a bit under-rated. I don't have the numbers in front of me but they should be in the area of 750 yards passing, which isn't record breaking but isn't bad, through 8 games and a few rather hefty blowouts. That being said, I figure Norton's is better than most people think, they just haven't had to show it.

Re: CW vs Kelly
CWs starters missed alot of time early in the season...you have to take that into account when assessing stats...especially pass yards avg per game. 2nd strings usually don't pass much.
-
Re: CW vs Kelly
Don't think I'f worry alot about JIB's passing. Clock control and handle the ends will give CW a win IMO.
-
Re: CW vs Kelly
CW wins because they have better players.

Agreed.

Re: CW vs Kelly
I hope you all are right and not giving Burton bulletin board motivation.
-
Re: CW vs Kelly
If it takes a bulliten board to fire either team up for this, they need to just stay home. I've seen both and if CW crashes the end of their DL and crash their OLBs to the side the motion is coming to, JIB shouldn't rack up many yards at all....and have the backside looking for the counters...CW has the personnel to slam JIB.
-
Re: CW vs Kelly
I've seen both play against PV, and in all honesty, CW is a load. They're the most complete team I've seen in years, and I'm talking playing position, responding to coaching, fundamentals, and athleticism. And, IMO, what I like best about CW is they play with hunger and passion. I hope CW uses some of these comments for fodder - lotta LPD folk rooting for them.

Re: CW vs Kelly
I know that there was some motivation tonight from the comments made about the lines by Salyers. I understand why he said it, but I know at least a couple of the linemen were ticked. That being said I heard Coach Adams said that Clintwood sucked, every single player LOL

Yeah I heard that too...I've heard folks from JIB don't think CW deserved the Region title last year, and that JIB was gonna prove it come Friday night...JIB regards CW as an upstart weakling it seems.

Re: CW vs Kelly
If that is the best line that B.I. has ever coached then I feel sorry for him.
They were decent for Kelly standards I guess but they just didn't seem have much led in their pencils to me.

Adams really said that? lol Especially wish I could see that game now. What a bruiser this Friday!

That's exactly what I posted last week. Kelly doesn't have anything that impresses me tho.

I'm hoping for a high tide next week.

I know what you're saying, but considering where he's coached, he's likely being truthful. PV's lost 5 games this year, and IMO, JJK is the worse team they've lost to, by far.

I agree.

Re: CW vs Kelly
The problem with PV is half the time they show up and half the time they don't. You can usually guage a PV-GC game based on how they each played Richlands....it's held true every recent year.

Good point. It'll be interesting to see the stats. PV controlled the second half in terms of clock control and line of scrimmage. My main concern is with the frequency of penalties - PV shouldn;t be committing so many mental errors this late in the season. I suspect they had 7 or penalties in the first quarter alone, most of which were off sides/motion and holding. I know they're young, but game 8 should be yielding some different results.

Re: CW vs Kelly
I think they are just so frustrated and with each game it gets worse.
-
Re: CW vs Kelly
Clintwood or Burton will be going to Salem as Region C will provide little resistance. However after watching William Campbell beat Gretna 34-18 I doubt the Wave or the Raiders could play with them right now. Buffalo Gap will get more than they can handle if they face WC. I would like to see the Raiders and Green Wave start throwing the ball more as this helps the running game. Running the ball in region D, GOOD. A good passing attack at Salem: PRICELESS!

Re: CW vs Kelly
I like that they finally got in the T....
