PV-54 Pound-7
Anyone got any kind of recap for me?
and no offense to the pound people on here, but im glad to see this.
esp. when some people on here were predicting a score of 21-14 or 21-7.
thanks you morons, i guess that made PV play better.
Note to everyone:
PV will be back.
oh and wise
i hope we see you at UVAW

Re: PV-54 Pound-7
I'll be a moron in that I expected Pound to play more with them than that (what was it last year, 6-0 at the half or close to it?). I thought Pound was not much worse, if worse and PV has been definitely worse. PV is a lot like Coeburn in that you never know what you're gonna get from them, thats with youth though.

Now you're being an ass.

Re: PV-54 Pound-7
hey, im sure the pound kids played hard.
and im not really trying to be a [richard], but pound shouldnt be within 40 points of PV, ever.
i took it as an insult towards PV to hear people predicting such a close score.
sure, they had identical records
but a team who beats richlands will roll pound.

Re: PV-54 Pound-7
I had to work but from what people that were at the game came and told me it was an absolute beat down.
-
Re: PV-54 Pound-7
I got a score that it was like 41-0 at the half. It didn't sound like much. Anyone who thought that it would be, is a little off imo.

Re: PV-54 Pound-7
I am in for the weekend. Me and my dad went there. There had to be only 300 or less people there including PV's band, both football teams, cops, paramedics.
It started to pour at halftime during PV's performance, where they didn't do their whole show.
When I saw Pound's first offensive play after opening kickoff I knew that PV would begin to run away with it as soon as they got the ball.
No offense to Appy but that could be the same story, depending on which PV team shows up.
PV steamrolled Pound. We left after halftime. Wasn't really any use in staying when it was raining like that and the game going the way it was.
-
Re: PV-54 Pound-7
I might add:
What the hell PV fans? I know there weren't very many of us there but the majority of you sat on your hands. The only audible noise coming from the band who was active no matter how much it rained.
It was like a funeral. I know the score was lopsided but Gate City fans were very active in 2002 when they drilled PV 49 to 0.
Don't just sit on your hands.

Re: PV-54 Pound-7
PV's picking up steam, I expect a battle in Wise for round one. First game was basically a TD game (Kelly got the two and we didn't forced it to 10 points) I would expect the rematch to be as close or closer. If PV's defense can play like they did at GC they have a shot to win.

Re: PV-54 Pound-7
WE WANT KELLY!
But PV needs to focus on Appalachia right now.

Re: PV-54 Pound-7
You might just get your wish, just this time you get them at the rolling hill that is Carrol dale stadium.
-
Re: PV-54 Pound-7
Nothing much to recap ..except that P.V. played well
Pounds qb will not let go of the ball and we didn't have a lot of blocking...

Oh you mean the announcer that actually cares about his school? Yeah hes still there.
-
Re: PV-54 Pound-7
Who cares who it is? Either way we'll be stoked about hosting a playoff game. If it is PV,that will be awesome, but if it is Lebanon,we'll deal with them. First comes business for everybody this week.
-
Re: PV-54 Pound-7
Yes the one who cares about his school so much he is annoying to the point I don't even want to go to the game. The announcer who yells out over the mic what the other team is doing behind the line, to try and give the home team an advantage. ie. PLAY ACTION!!! PASS PASS PASS!...or FUMBLE BEHIND THE LINE!! Stadium announcers are supposed to keep their mouth shut until the play is over.
-
Re: PV-54 Pound-7
Wheres the rulebook on stadium announcers? Ive never seen one, so he can announce however he pleases.
-
Re: PV-54 Pound-7
I liked the CW announcer. "1st and 10... picks up about 3, we'll call it a short 10". Not making fun, it was great.

LOL not pleasae do make fun at least you only have to hear him 1 time every 2 years the Clintwood fathful get it 5+ times a season but he does grow on you after awhile LOL
-
Re: PV-54 Pound-7
That CW guy must be the same guy who does it on TV. "Short by 2 yards...no 1 yard....6 inches....FIRST DOWN!"
As for the JJ Kelly guy, I never said it was in a rulebook...I just said the guy gets on your nerves. Went throught this same conversation last year...and even people from Wise agreed. My opinion is, the stadum announcer is there to give information to the fans, NOT root for a team.
-
Re: PV-54 Pound-7
I think there is a rule against it just like there is about bands playing during plays.
When Clintwood played at Wise I guess he needed something to get excited about. Robinson broke a run off left tackle and was about 10 yards into the run when a diving Kelly player tipped the back of his shoe and he fell, of course that led to "BIIIIIIIIIIG HIT BY A HOST OF JJ KELLY INDIANS!!!". Re: PV-54 Pound-7
I caught the CW-GC game the last time GC came to Clintwood (before this year),and I was telling elp that I wsn't sure if he was getting drunk,or was just old and getting tired, but by the 4th quarter we were both noticing that his slurring was getting worse

Re: PV-54 Pound-7
Gotta be taling about Shanghai! Gotta love that man. I have known him for years.

Re: PV-54 Pound-7
He's not talking about Shanghai, he's talking about the PA guy, Joe.
-
Re: PV-54 Pound-7
Ok, but you still gotta like Shanghai.

My brother pointed out to me this season several times (at several games) that the bands were playing during plays/downs. I didn't even notice it was happening until he showed me and I realized that it was true.
One of the most recent games that comes to mind is the Coeburn/St. Paul game, in which St. Paul's band was playing several time during the action. I know that NSSB was probably there, so he could probably confirm it unless he just didn't catch it. We've seen it at several other games, too, although I can't actually name which ones as I can't remember exactly.

Re: PV-54 Pound-7
I guess it's just not a rule that's highly enforced. The band doesn't get much attention when they're not out on the field either, though (especially smaller ones), so I'd say it'd be a little easy to overlook it.
-
Re: PV-54 Pound-7
You were right, they did play throughout the SP/Coeburn game I remember them doing it.
-
Re: PV-54 Pound-7
I didn't think it was a rule at all in high school? Many bands do indeed do it though.
-
Re: PV-54 Pound-7
I think the general "rule of thumb" is the band isn't to play when their team is on offense, and play between plays if possible. That's what I recall from high school.
-
Re: PV-54 Pound-7
Yeah, at PV we rarely played when the team was on offense. At the Gate City games, when the ball and Gate City had it was in front of us [the band] and it was fourth down, field goal, close to converting, close to scoring, (you get the point) the director would have us just play a bunch of random stuff really loud. They never told us to quit doing it. Worked really well at the 2004 game when PV beat them for the first time since 01. It worked at the rematch too and both games my senior year in the fall of 05.
When Powell Valley was kicking off, it was tradition for the tubas to start playing Jaws once the ball was placed on the tee, then the rest of the band would come in and improvise some things based on Jaws. Once the ball was in the air we would all play a concert F pitch and do a gliss down from the pitch. They still do that.

Re: PV-54 Pound-7
Ole Joe is a "LIFER"!! I pray he lives forever, and we never die!!! :-)
-
Re: PV-54 Pound-7
I hated our band in HS because they wanted to be nice. They only played when we had the ball and not when the other team had it. Not good at all.
