field shaping up for Saturday's game?

Most people besides people from Clintwood want the game played in wise.

But i can see why CW wants it there if it was PV playing and they didn't have it a the park i'd be pissed

I understand their wanting it at CW but like it's been said, playing at wise on the turf would help if they go to state.

Very comparable. The field at Wise is nothing like what's at Salem.

That being said UVA-Wise will be replaceing there surface in 2 years If they go to field turf then IMHO playing there would make sence

Yep. The turf at Salem (for those that don't know) is like what Honaker, Richlands, and the Seattle Seahawks have. It's basically fake grass, not carpet over padding like UVAW.

Richlands has a nice place up there i was very impressed when i was up there earlier in the season

Castlewood is supposed to be getting the same type of field soon.

Just checked the weather forecast for Clintwood. Looking good for rest of week with 50% chance of rain Saturday.

Just something a little off the subject. I was in Williamson, W. Va. the other day and drove through Belfrey, Ky.....its kinda like Gate City and Kingsport the towns are so close. Belfry's football field is right beside the road so I went up to just to look at it.
If Wise County or Dickenson County schools consolidate and they want a model school and field to go by, go look at Belfrey's.
Their field is what a high school stadium should look like. Field turf, the home side bleachers are set up so you do not have to walk over people to get out, and their visitors side bleachers are large to accomdate a good crowd.

Wonder how much coal company money is funding this? They don't send their taxes out of the area, and get some really nice stuff to keep folks from bitching about the muddy roads and overloaded trucks. Yep, those fields are great, but don't forget some of SEKY's schools spent so much on buildings and fields, they couldn't buy books.

Really? I work with several folks with kids in SEKY schools and that all have books.......And new schools

Crap does anybody really pay attention to the families that they feature in such things? No offense, but they pick the worst of the worst, and the ones who have nothing, get whatever they get and go buy it on cigarettes, lottery tickets and beer, not necessarily in that order.

I understand some people struggle, but some people haven't the 'sense cents sinces since sins' or whatever to help themselves.

Oh and back to the initial point of the thread, Clintwoods field looked pretty good yesterday evening and should be even better today. It's taken a lot of work by some very great people to get it that way, but I don't understand what the question about the field really is or why anybody would wonder why they would play it there. We went and played the half state game last year on a field that was as bad as about any field around here. And that was the field it was moved to because the actual field was worse.

Why would you want to play it at home instead of UVA-Wise? Well one, you have to pay to use UVA-Wise, which I am pretty sure gets reimbursed, so thats not a crucial part. The second part, the school is out for Thanksgiving, so there isn't really anybody there, student work-study etc that help turn things on, open things up, get things 'ready' for a game. Third, you have to travel and close as it is, its still 30-45 minutes by car, back and forth, you have to have people there to run the conessions, run the gates, etc. Its also not home. Close, sure. Could Clintwood play on it, yes, but Clintwoods field and stadium are a lot nicer than many of the options and places that have hosted games. This is a senior filled group, who earned the right, and had it be on the region D hosting year, to get the game there. If Norton won, they had the right to have it at UVA-Wise, Bath County won C last year and had it at, where was it Convington because of the condtions of their field, but it was a field they had played on before.

I for one am glad that the Clintwood seniors get that chance for one last game at home and that the community gets the chance to come there to support them. Our crowd has traveled pretty well the last couple years, its nice that the players and fans get this reward and hopefully the whole crowd loads up and goes to Salem next week.

Look reading what most say, Clintwood is already beat if they play William Campbell. So is playing at UVA-Wise, a different type of turf all together, going to magically change that? To me, this is a reward for the Wave and hopefully they take advantage of it, and maybe the miracle happens and they can somehow beat the juggernaut that is William Campbell.

But both teams have to win one more game before either can worry about that.

Sort of sounds like the hack job National Geoagarphic did on SWVA back in the early 90's

The parts burned into my memory where Marijuana was our biggist cash crop and the avg person farmed there land with a Mule (Or Wife)

It seemed like they interviewed the most backward and stupid people they could find.......A few parts that shand out was the woman that was against better roads becouse she wanted her grand babys to be able to run through the woods without worring about being hit by a car

That blurb doesn't say anything about schools not having books either. It said delivering books to families. I'm assuming that's just various books for kids to read at home to get them to read.

It should still be CVC imo. It never deserved to have UVA in the name, and it also irritates me when I tell people back home that I go to UVA and they think Wise.

It has always been a branch of UVA. I have never liked the name personally, but to say its "undeserving" is inaccurate.

With skyrocketing applications and an endowment that is virtually unmatched by any other public liberal arts college, I believe it is "deserving" to have the UVA name attached to it if the UVA board approves.

I don't think anybody has to pay anything to play at UVA-Wise.
