I just found out about the Breathitt game from my s-i-l.

Don't forget KY allows private schools into their playoffs.

Beechwood is a beast at 1a. That makes them 11 state titles in the last maybe 20yrs. Their enrollment is only about 485.

We listened to the Breathitt game on the radio at work today. They got down 14-7 near the end of the half, but put together a drive with under a minute left. Ended up throwing a pick that was returned to their two yard line. Central then scored with no time left in the half to go up 21-7. That pretty much broke Breathitt's back. Good thing for them is that they have practically everybody coming back next year and should be a strong favorite to be back in the championship game next year.

One thing that suprised me, however, was this quote on WYMT's article about the game:

"The Yellowjackets beat Breathitt County 40-19 in the KHSAA state
finals Friday in front of 3,917 fans..."

3,917 fans? A friend of mine from KY back home rails me constantly on how passionate people are about football over here. That few fans at a state championship game is not solid proof of that argument.

They said the capacity of Salem Stadium for the A VA games was around 7000. The Clintwood side was at least 3/4 full with a few hundred standing a top the hill.

I was looking on blue grass rivals and they said there was poor attendance this year. The bad weather may have kept some of the fans at the house. They said on the other forum that their attendance was double that last year

Nearly 4,000 for a 3 pm weekday game really isn't that bad. Saw where Tech only had like 2,000 for one of their AAA games.

WYMT said 3316 for the 11 a.m. single A game. Lex. paper said "... some Hazard fans, maybe even the school band, were snowed in and couldn't make it to Louisville".

Breathitt's Channing Fugate had 133 yards on 18 carries & a TD, giving him 3,052 yards & 36 TDs.

I'm sure everybody that's been to a state game with their team can speak the same, but back in '94 when Appy traveled to Middlesex to play in the big game, the weather was pure crap. Practically rained all the way there and it was ice cold with a misty rain at the game. Coming back was a monsoon. So if you want to follow your team, you'll find a way.

And don't let the reports of bad weather over here fool you. Sure it was bad the night before, but the roads were cleared off by early in the morning.

I can vouch for that, I am over here in Jackson (where Breathitt is) and the roads were fine coming in last night even on the back roads out of town where the in-laws live.

I saw part of the Hazard game and the Breathitt Co. games on there today. The team that beat Breathitt looked like they could mop the floor with any of the 4 involved. Very solid. They've got a LB and a DT both committed to UK.
