I don't know if I'd go that far. They've thumped Pound twice, beat a very poor J Frank White team, beat a rebuilding Lee team and got thumped by Middlesboro KY.

Give us a recap of these games if you don't mind (had to work and missed 'em) PH and Honaker supposed to be good/decent?

Was home with a sick grandchild myself, but here's the report I received from the second game. Honaker has a big kid, about 6'8", who altered a lot of shots and got rebounds, but doesn't have many offensive skills. Thus, Honaker didn't have much presence inside. (Their big scorer from last year graduated.) They had a few kids who could shoot, and made several threes, but finally couldn't withstand Kelly's defensive effort. Apparently, Kelly didn't force too many turnovers, but kept Honaker from scoring (only 49 on the night). Kelly had a balanced offensive game, with Sproles,Clark, Dotson, and Miller making significant contributions. The guards took care of the basketball and, on the whole, played within the offense.

Garrison and Jordan had good offensive games for PV in the earlier game. Sorry, but that's all the information I have.

Is there an article for this yet in the BHC or anything?

I know jjkellyathletics will only have the score until the Coalfield comes out.

Thanks. Despite the lack of size, this bunch seems to hold there own inside. Has Lee or Honaker had much size aside from the 6'8" kid?

PV came out and played pretty sloppy in the first half, we trailed by double digits at the half and were pretty much out of it. We've got a couple kids who are pretty sick with some virus, Jordan being one of them. The turning point in the game was when and this will sound sick but Jordan Martin got sick on the floor. He sat out a couple minutes and came back in for the end of the third quarter. He and Stick hit back to back threes in the last 30 seconds of the third quarter to tie the game if I remember correctly. Our guards have played great so far, the one scrimmage and now this first game but our big men are going to have to start producing more. Jordan is Jordan and Stick imo may be the most improved player in the league but you can't expect those two to combine for 40 + every night. I'm not going to say it was a great win for PV, but it was a good win in the fact that Ronnie Groves and Hayne Darby killed us in the first have and our kids responded and won the game.


JJK and Honaker was closer than the score but the final score was about what I expected. JJ Kelly doesn't have that one player but they have 3 or 4 that can go score double digits on you, they put 3 in double figures last night. Including 10 from Aaron Clark who came off the bench. Kelly led the entire game and I never really felt like they were going to lose. I didn't really understand Honaker, they had a size advantage on Kelly but continued to jack up threes, shot 25 of them for the game. Kelly's defense is pretty solid, seemed like every time the ball went in to the post Kelly would force a turnover. Which may explain why the Tigers kept shooting the ball from downtown. From what I've seen so far I'd rank JJ Kelly first in the LPD. However, I want to see them play a close game, they shot 12-27 from the stripe last night and in a close LPD game they can come back to bite you, from what I've seen out of them Roberts is the only reliable foul shooter they have if you take his ft numbers out of the game they shoot 7-21 at the line. But who knows maybe they have some magic or something, haha Honaker shot worse than they did at the line last night.

Lee doesn't have much size. They have only one guy who looks to be significantly over 6'0" with some girth. They got into early foul trouble against Kelly; so, it's hard to say exactly what kind of inside game they have. From what I saw in just one game, not much.

Missed the Honaker game myself, but PVFan seemed to have some good insight.

I suspect they do a lot of doubling down from the weaker guard position and backside help in the low post. It's a nice way to force some turnovers but a big man with some hands like Bolling from Pound or an in&out combo similar to AA and Pate could be trouble.

PVFAN pretty much nailed the analysis on the PV-PH game. I didnt stick around for the JJK game.

The only thing I would say different is I thought the turning point was when stick was coming down the court for a layup, and got drilled from TWO pat henry players, and they called a charge on stick. Seemed like the entire team, coaches, and all the fans changed their attitude. That occuring a couple minutes before the pukefest in the 3rd quarter. I swear, the whole first quarter, you coulda heard a pin drop in that place, it was strange.

I also agree with PVFAN, PV better get some other people scoring. Jordan and Stick can't be expected to score 84% of the points every night. And it wasnt just that noone else scored, noone else really even attempted a shot. I think that will change though as the team gets more in time with each other. Have to remember Jordan is the ONLY starter with substantial gametime experience at the varsity level.

JJK will be tested in a few days. In addition to TV being in that field,the Indians wil have to first get by an unbeaten (think they still are) VHS squad.

I love this time of year, big games and it really doesn't hurt you if you lose. PV could possibly play the following before January 1:
