Transfer stipulations for Marve
> Posted by Shandel Richardson at 2:23:11 PM
CORAL GABLES _ Just got off the phone with Eugene Marve, the father of quarterback Robert Marve. Eugene Marve said the Hurricanes released Marve from his transfer, but only under certain stipulations. According to the father, Marve can't transfer to another SEC, ACC or in-state school. It eliminates any chance of Marve, who is from Tampa, playing in the Southeast
good news i think.. i think jacory will be great
I really liked Marve at the beginning of the season, I thought he threw a great ball but as the season went on and the more successful Jacory was, he got worse. A smart move by Marve if he ever wants to play another snap in college football. I hate that he pretty much can't go anywhere in the Southeast, at least to a big school.
Word is when Kiffin went to Plant to watch Charles and Murray play, he was talking to Marve too. The Marves are going to challenge the release stipulations and he could end up at UT.
so they'd turn down Tahj Boyd, but would love to have Marve??

Marve is a pro style QB whereas Boyd isnt, why even ask such a dumb question.
so they would rather have a terrible pro-style qb than a good dual-threat??
it's not a dumb question to ask why a school would want a kid who can't start for a 7-6 ACC team, while at the same time rejecting a kid who is an Army All-American...sounds more like dumb logic than a dumb question

I don't think they turned down Boyd. They told him he didn't exactly fit their system as a pro style QB, he then told him that he would honor his scholly but wasn't guaranteed to be playing QB. He could fight for it and if he won great but if not he was going to be moved to another position. I don't think Boyd's father liked hearing that so he decommitted. Now it looks as if he will either be a Buckeye, Duck, or Eagle.
I like Marve and IMO he is very similar to Chris Leak, he will be a good college QB but that will be as far as he will go. He throws one pretty ball.
And just because he is an Army All-American doesn't mean squat. There have been plenty of bust who have graced the nation at the Army game. People who get caught up on recruiting stars are a complete joke, seems like to me there are more 2-3 stars that end up being your best and most productive players on the collegiate level. Normally your 5 stars are bust, not all, but quite a few never see a college field.
Just as an example look at some of the Big 12 QB's that made a huge splash this year, what were they rated coming out of HS.
2005 Class
Chase Daniel (Mizz) - 3 star
Zac Robinson (OSU) - 3 star
Colt McCoy (Texas) - 3 star
Notable 4 and 5 star recruits ahead of them (Ryan Perrilloux , Jake Christensen, Ike Whitaker, Josh Portis, Kyle Reed, need I go further) These were the Top 5 in that class.
Just a couple of more,
Todd Ressing (Kansas) - 3 star
Sam Bradford (Oklahoma) - 3 star, won the Heisman
So basically, stars don't mean shiz.
2006
i'm just stunned they feel that 2 years of Marve would be better than 4 years of Boyd
I don't think BC is that serious of a player for Boyd, I think it's Oregon and Ohio State and I'd say OSU has the edge
whoever gets him will have a pretty good player on their hands...I wish we hadn't decided to give Kevin Newsome the Tyrod treatment and had recruited Boyd hard from day 1...not too many Phoebus kids come out of there without going to VT
I think OSU has the edge also, I am suprised he hasn't already committed to them.
I also think Boyd would be one heckuva QB and wish he would have stayed at UT but Kiffin evidently knows someting we don't. Guess we will have to wait a couple of years to see.
btw, I never said anything about stars...maybe that wasn't directed at me, I don't know
you're preaching to the choir as far as stars and ratings go...most of VT's best players were very underrated in high school
Jimmy Williams 2-stars
Michael Vick 4-stars (but only other school to heavily recruit him was Syracuse)
Jake Grove 2-stars
Jeff King 2-stars
there's tons more...most of the kids VT has put in the NFL are 2 and 3 stars...we haven't had a top 15 class that I can remember but we've been near the top of the list for putting the most players in the NFL for the past 3 years including being outdone only by USC last year by 1 or 2 players

No it wasn't, sorry about that, you were just the unlucky one that replied last during my rant. Again, sorry.
I think Oregon has the advantage. Does Boyd want to go sit behind Pryor for two seasons? I doubt it.
maybe if Oregon weren't in Oregon

throw those HS rankings right in the trash because they dont mean [censored]
lets look at some of the most recent cane "greats"
kyle wright 5 stars
lance leggett 5 stars
ryan moore 5 stars
willie williams 5 stars
akieem jolla 5 stars
alton wright 5 stars
tyler mc means 5 stars
ed reed 2 stars
sinorice moss 3 stars
bryan pata 1 star
eric moncur 1 star
2 of this years best OL
orlando franklin and joel figueroa 2 stars
see where im going with this?
those rankings dont have any direct correlation as to how well a kid will play in college
i pay no attention to them at all
99 times out of 100 the thing that makes great HS players great college players is coaching and development
there is always the exception that can step right in and be dominant.......however without good coaching and development these kids often top out very early in the college careers and dont improve much between their frosh and senior years
Ah come one now, Willie Williams had a great year at Union. :)_

Marve was a freshman, has alot of talent, and with some coaching its hard to say how good he good be. You just never know. He wasnt ready to be thrown to the wolves, most freshmen arent. Its pretty obvious that Kiffin is saying Boyd cant do what we want him to do whereas Marve at least has the skill set to do what they want him to do. I just cant believe you dont see that. Comparing Boyd to Marve is like comparing Tommy Frazier to Troy Aikman. Even if they were both evenly great, Aikman is the one that fits into Kiffin's system. It really was a dumb question.
dang i didnt realize ed reed was a 2 star .. wow

no...it's like comparing Tommy Frasier to Grant Noel
you said yourself it's hard to say how good he could be...same goes for Tahj Boyd...neither QB will help next year, that's a given...but with Boyd you have 4 years to bring him along, and while he is learning the QB aspects he can make plays with his legs...whereas Marve is gonna need a good O-Line and will only have 2 years
you act like Boyd can't throw either...it's called "dual-threat", not "running qb"
VT hasn't landed many 5-star kids, but the ones we have landed have turned out pretty well so far
Kevin Jones
Victor Harris
Tyrod Taylor
i may be missing one or two, and we will have a shot at another one with Logan Thomas, and he looks like he should do alright
Tyrod Taylor has underperformed, but like was said earlier about Marve, he was thrown into the fire early when he was still 17...but nevertheless has led VT to back-to-back ACC titles and BCS bowl games and still has his best football ahead of him

and Grant Noel fits UT's system alot better than say Taylor, Randle, Vick, Vick, Clark, or DeShazo do. Boyd is just like every one of those guys. Most good QB's do need a good line. I think Kiffin would want to create a good line. Wow, I thought all teams want to develop a good line.
Has Taylor really LED them to those accomplishments? It sure as hell looks like the defense LED them to me.
Kiffin doesnt want someone learning a position while they are making plays with their legs. Every guy that hes ever coached learned the position. They didnt make plays with their legs. Being a VT fan, Im sure you think running the ball is what QB's are supposed to do first, but they arent. All of those guys at USC do just fine while having limited mobility.
all those guys at USC have about 8 future NFL linemen blocking for them
How many successful lineman has USC sent to the NFL lately?
only 1 lineman they've sent to the NFL i the last 3 drafts have not been drafted in the first 2 rounds
btw, it looks like Boyd might pick Oregon...much to the dismay of some family members who wanted to be able to see him play, even if only on TV
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: 722</div><div class="ubbcode-body">How many successful lineman has USC sent to the NFL lately? </div></div>
theyve sent a few but how many had success at the next level is a different story
That was my point PT.
