My Lock-it 1st round big upset

#14 American takes out #3 Villanova. The Eagles put 5 seniors on the floor,have a great head coach in Jeff Jones (I miss the UVA days with him),return after being in the dance last year,so there's not going to be a "deer in the headlights" thing going on with the experience from last year, and have a guard in Derrick Mercer who has been hot as a $2 pistol as of late. Who do you all have as your 1st round shock. BTW-would love to see it be ETSU making history as a 16 picking off a 1. Last year I lamented Arizona and Oregon making the field,and they quickly proved me right. Here's hoping that Arizona does it again.

Its a travesity. I was hoping 14, but expecting no worse than 15 for ETSU. They almost became the first 16 to beat a 1 in 89, maybe they can finish the job 20 years later. It will be extremely tough to do so though.

American will get blown out by Nova. Nova has great guard play, and is playing at home.

i almost guaranteed ETSU would at least a 15, but 16 is crazy.

they dont have a shot against pitt, etsu has no one inside, blair will kill them.

washington has great guards, but msu is playing great, and vernardo can change a lot of shots inside.

I have seen Nova play. They are just another solid team in a great conference,but there have been better than that bite the dust over the years. Instead of you all dissing on my pick,hows about doing what I actually wanted from this thread and giving me you all's first round shocker?

Maryland #10 vs. #7 California

Wow, thats really all I can say. My boys were picked 11th out of 12 acc teams in some preseason publications yet here they are. I've been to several Maryland games in my life but I've never been happier than I was Friday Night (and I was at the 04 Duke Game), being in the dome when they took down Wake with that team was great. Wake had twice the talent Maryland did but Gary got the win. It's all gravy from this point forward, I just hope they play at 9 or later on Thursday so I can see it.

This might be the most interest I've given to round one in quite some time, obviously Maryland is in but several other teams I deeply care about are in. Six other ACC teams are in, plus ETSU and Radford. I'd also like to see West Virginia and Louisville do well. The only thing that really surprised me with is Arizona getting in, I was expecting St. Mary's to get in with the return of Mills, obviously getting blown out by the Zags in the tournament hurt their cause. I think WF should've been a three seed, and I think Clemson got penalized to heavily for their loss to GT. The game was practically a home game for the Jackets.

Mine is either going to be Western Kentucky over Illinois or North Dakota State over Kansas......One of those WILL happen.

MSU over Washington? That's a reach? The PAC-10 is in a down year,yet the Huskies couldn't even win the tourney while MSU is on a roll. The only 1 out of the 4 that you posted that would actually be a surprise would be Utah St over Marquette

Its a 13 vs. a 4, yes would be considered and upset, with UDub playing pretty close to home. It wouldn't surprise me if Utah State won to. Marquette should probably be an 8 or 9 seed since they lost James for the year. They just haven't been very good since then.

although its in portland, and msu played today, washington has great guards, brockman can rebound, they won the pac-10, better than the sec, in the regular season, msu has no answer for justin dentmon, mississippi state would be at home if not for the most jumbled up mess of ten seconds to end a game today, etc.... its not a reach? wash is the def. favorite

Anybody else besides me (speaking of Big East) think Syracuse has a shot at a deep run as well? I wasn't sold on the Orange,but they really impressed me with their grit through the Big East tourney,and question #2 is of course Does the Big 10 hit a new low this tourney? A weak as water league (7 teams in WTF?) having a shoddy year even by Big 10 standards. Mich State is overrated,and I'm thinking that Purdue is the only one with a snowball's chance in hell of making an elite-8 type run (because of the defense of the Boilers).

i had syracuse in my final four at one point, i just think unc can get thru the zone and get buckets and hit open shots.

its still close, they can play with anyone.

msu is weak, but the more i think about it the more i think they will handle usc.

they can play d, and lucas is great.

Marquette just isn't the same without James. I like the Golden Eagles, but they will make an early exit this year.

I don't see NDS beating Kansas either. Its their first year eligible for the dance and they make it, but they will get dosey-doed right off that dance floor quick.

I wanted to see Penn St make it because of DeChellis but the Big 10 sucks. I really think the SEC is better than them to be honest and the SEC was down this year. It ludacris that they got in 7 teams. 5 of their 7 will lose in the first round is my guess.

American leading heavily favored Nova 41-31 at the break. You guys were saying? Nova may rally to win (may not),but I'm the only one on here who saw this and knew the Eagles would give Nova problems. They just matchup well with 'em. I blew it on MSU though (good lord the SEC is weak this year).

You guys did any better? Where was the blowout that you all called for? Guess we all missed the boat.

Thanks AAC.......er...... I mean ACC for blowing up my bracket last night. FSU and WF killed me, I am still in 3rd with a chance to win but it didn't help mattes out. The Big East and ACC were supposed to win all their opening round games, that is just the way it is. But, looks like the Big 12 won all their opening round games, which I didn't really expect.

Looks like Cleveland State was the Cinderella this year, maybe. How many picked that upset. I myself thought it would be North Dakota St over Kansas and if they would have had a big man inside that would have happened.
