Nick Montana will be a senior this fall. He's being recruited pretty heavily, no offer from ND though.

Montanas a dang good athlete. A little undersized but is a track champ in CA I believe.

Jimmy was considered to be a lot better than Rick or Casey, especially when either one of them talked about him, but so far, he's the worst. I guess it goes back to intangibles. I hate when people dog Casey at UT. Had there not been a guy named Peyton, Casey would probably be the best QB in the past 25 years of UT football.
He actually has a scholarship offer from ND, just no serious commitment from them.Quote:

Rick had a pretty good year after Ainge got hurt against ND his JR year I believe it was, when he led UT to a Cotton Bowl win and was the MVP. Jimmy still looked like chit last year IMO compared to the hype.
I think a lot of people have this idea that just because they had a dad that was one of the greatest ever in their respective sports... then their kids are automatically going to be just as great. Lot of these players are great by not only working hard, but the timing was right in their respective sport to catch a few breaks plus... the majority of these players came up in an age without all the luxuries that today's kids have: cell phones, video games, etc.... other things that all occupy the time of kids today who could be out working on their respective sport that they are apart of. Not saying that all kids are like this.....but it makes a huge difference.
For example.....some of the hardest working kids that you will find in their respective sports do not come from the biggest schools in SW Virginia... but the smallest. In some of these bigger schools, kids have more options and are around more things in their area whereas kids from smaller schools from smaller areas do not have that many things to distract them. Just an opinion. Twin Valley of today and even in the late 90's the Council teams for instance in basketball..... two of the smallest schools in all of Region D......yet.....considered year in and year out one of the strongest contenders to take the Region D crown.... even before the divisional splits.
Another reason why some kids don't pan out.......athletes like a Montana or Jordan or Elway.... they get married. Now.. take a guy like Dell Curry.... he married an athletic volleyball player from Tech.....and from that union you get a Stephan and Seth Curry. Now.. I'm not saying it happens like this all the time... but sometimes.... the person that you marry.... it'll have a bearing on your kids athletic ability. Just obeservations that I've noticed here and there.
i dont remember anyone saying these kids were good because of their name, we all realize that truly has very little on the kids talent usually.
I'd take Jimmy over Rick anyday. Rick was just Gawd awful. I remember Kesling on the radio during a game in 05 talking about Rick saying "He just threw the ball as hard and as far as he could throw it and the receiver came down with it for the touchdown.". The problem was it was only like a 25-30 yard pass. He was horrible. At least Jimmy has some skills to work with. Rick had nothing.
Rick doesn't have the overall skill set that Jimmy does, but I would feel a lot more confident in giving the ball to Rick than to Jimmy. He at least got it done against good competition. Jimmy hasn't even gotten it done against average competition is the problem. No doubt I would take Casey over either one.
I don't know you can even say that Rick got it done against good competition. Other than Texas A&M he never beat anybody. I loved Casey though. He was dumber than a box of rocks, but he had balls and was tough as nails.
Rick was the same way. How about the comeback win at LSU in OT in his return to Baton Rouge? That earned my respect right there. Im not saying he was great, Im just saying he at least had a semi-statement game. Something Jimmy has still yet to do.
That was a game that UT kind of lucked into winning. I think Miles can be credited as much for giving that one away. I remember after a change of possession when Rick threw an INT that Miles came running onto the field yelling for a timeout. Pelini basically tackled him and threw him back on the sidelines since obviously they didn't need one.
yeah im with lung, i take jimmy at this point, rick never really impressed me at all, at least jimmy has the god given talent, wheter he uses it right or not haha
Talent/skill? Jimmy has it. Heart/head? Im not so sure.
Id say the fact that council and twin valley do not have other programs to distract them from basketball helps. More than how hard working they are, if you do not do anything else you just get better at what you doQuote:
