Since everybody from JJK had fun in the fall
The Boys in Blue are doing this now.
http://www.msnheaven.com/content/emo.../party0003.gif
Wonder if they'll break out the pocket knifes when they travel to Shupe Field? Tonight was the night the baseball power in the LPD shifted from Red to Blue, JJK with 7 senior starters PV with 3 and starting two freshman at short and third. Things are looking up on the baseball diamond.

Re: Since everybody from JJK had fun in the fall
Don't bet on the baseball power bit amigo. Holla back at me in a few years and see if it's still rolling (like we have for over 30 years). Congrats to PV on a rare baseball win over JJK-kinda like us last fall on the gridiron (only difference being in baseball we usually get you guys 2-3 times a year as opposed to 1 in football). You play the game year after year, and you'll eventually get a win every now and then.
-
Re: Since everybody from JJK had fun in the fall
7 seniors to 3, we only have to win it like 3-4 more years and then they'll close the school.
-
Re: Since everybody from JJK had fun in the fall
Seem to be making a big deal out of that PV youth amigo. We've hoisted state titles with young squads. Do that and I'll talk about how far the latest "Johnny come lately threat to Kelly's dynasty" has come. Until then,it's just the newest round of premature talk. Don't bet on the 3-4 years either, but then again if PV won state the next few years (which is highly unlikely IMO),you'd just be 5 or 6 behind.

Re: Since everybody from JJK had fun in the fall
Only school in the LPD to have a state title in football, baseball, and basketball.
-
Re: Since everybody from JJK had fun in the fall
JJK 23
PV 16
there's your state title count friend
JJK-ONLY school to have state titles in 7 sports. Yes that's right SEVEN.
Baseball -1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1998, 2008
Basketball (Girls) - 2002
Cross County (Boys) - 1988
Football - 1981
Golf - 2003
Tennis (Girls) - 1986, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997
Wrestling - 1983, 1988
There's your bottom line. 23>16

NOBODY on this end of the state has brought home more hardware than we have. There's not even an argument there. The numbers don't lie

Re: Since everybody from JJK had fun in the fall
Congratulations on your 8 girls tennis state titles, half the schools in the state don't even know how to play tennis in single a. Some of the sports aren't just very competitve, once you get past the big six (Volleyball, Softball, both Basketballs, Football, Baseball) it's hard to account for much imo.
-
Re: Since everybody from JJK had fun in the fall
Those gals from PV and everywhere else had the same opps to win it as our gals did. As for your opinion of the big 6? That's all it is -opinion (my 6 would differ slightly). I'd wager that anybody who has ever stepped onto a wrestling mat would disagree with your 6 (btw wrestling is the most demanding and grueling of them all in MY opinion). I also do not see volleyball being a bigger or tougher sport than tennis (pretty sure I don't see volleyball matches on CBS). Both sports require a body running their arses off and working hard to stay in shape. We can debate the point, but when it comes down to cases, nobody can lay claim to be a more well-rounded athletic school than the crew from Birchfield (heck,we even won one in theater just to prove how smart/sharp we were lol)

lmfao....like anyone cares about shit like that anymore

Re: Since everybody from JJK had fun in the fall
The six I listed are true team sports, you have to work with others to win. Granted, you can win team championships in tennis, golf, track, wrestling, etc. when the competition starts by and large it's one person earning points for their team.
-
Re: Since everybody from JJK had fun in the fall
When an individual doesn't perform up to par,the team loses the title. These individuals have to be on par to earn the points required for not just themselves but the squad. It is tougher IMO because there is so much individual pressure on them to carry their weight and not fail the team. BTW: Because the 6 that you listed vary from tennis and wrestling,it sure doesn't make them the "big 6". Like I said before tennis is a much bigger sport than volleyball. We can debate it forever, but at the end of the day, they are in the trophy case as TEAM titles, and we have 23 of 'em.

Re: Since everybody from JJK had fun in the fall
Tennis maybe a bigger known sport professionally, but not in HS or college. In tennis, if you are really that great, you play professionally during your HS years, not after going to college. I have never seen a college tennis match on TV for men or women but I have seen the vball college final four.

Re: Since everybody from JJK had fun in the fall
Those are the six big sports, if you don't believe it look at attendance and funding for those six sports compared to other ones at both the high school and college level. To me thats not really debatable, in fact wrestling programs at colleges have been dropping like flies over the last 10-20 years.

Alot of that (attendence/funding) has alot to do with the region that you live in. You know that as well as I do. It is not uncommon up North to see as many folks at a high school wrestling match as we do a high school football game here. That's not really an accurate argument friend. You have to remember where we are.

Re: Since everybody from JJK had fun in the fall
It's very accurate, Southwest Virginia has the two strongest high school wrestling programs arguably in the entire state in Grundy and Christiansburg, not to mention the success Kelly has had over the years. Yet, the following "local" schools do not offer wrestling at the collegiete level, UVa-Wise, King, Virginia Intermont, Milligan, Bluefield, Pikeville, Emory and Henry, Carson Newman, ETSU, Montreat, Union, Eastern Kentucky, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Thats off the top of my head, the closest school that I even know of that competes in wrestling is VT. It's just not a big sport, to say otherwise is ignoring the facts, you can say it's geographical, and it's true that by and large the majority of schools that wrestle are in the state of PA but that would be like saying I don't think lax is big due to my geographic location. You could even make an argument imo, that Lax is a more popular sport overall in this country than wrestling at this point.
-
Re: Since everybody from JJK had fun in the fall
Again you are mentioning alot of locals (colleges who don't offer wrestling in an area where wrestling isn't big) in that last post. To say that most of the wrestling schools are in PA is also inaccurate. Most of your powerhouses are from Iowa,Oklahoma,Maine,Alabama, and the state of Ohio has seen a recent boom. If you want to see how big wrestling is up north, just go to the Agie Skeens tourney at Grundy.
-
Re: Since everybody from JJK had fun in the fall
King and Carson Newman both have wrestling programs.
-
Re: Since everybody from JJK had fun in the fall
Wow, do they really? Who do they wrestle? If so I stand corrected. Unchained, what I was trying to say is that most of the smaller schools up north have wrestling, you wont see that many other places. I don't see how wrestling isn't really popular here either, I've never met anyone from Grundy who didn't think it was the greatest sport ever invented. However, if you want to continue to claim wrestling and tennis are major sports go ahead, but the numbers simply say that it isn't. I looked it up there are around 90 NCAA Division 1 Wrestling programs, 14 are in the state of PA. More than any other state.
-
Re: Since everybody from JJK had fun in the fall
King does have wrestling and Carson Newman does not, I should've looked King up, they'll try anything.

I have come to realize that swimming the 5000m race in swimming is more difficult and demanding than any other sporting event. In fact being a competitive swimmer, by far and away the most difficult sporting event followed up by soccer.

Re: Since everybody from JJK had fun in the fall
Title 9 killed wrestling.

Re: Since everybody from JJK had fun in the fall
When PV has 9 state titles in baseball, then the power will have switched from red to blue. For now baseball was, is, and is going to be owned by the reservation.

Plain and simple----Mack Shupe made Indian baseball. The man was a genius.

Robbie Stinson and Bobby Bates had a helluva lot to do with making Indian baseball what it is. Shupe had great coaches around him.
-
Re: Since everybody from JJK had fun in the fall
The difference between football and baseball is the attendance...you could take the paid attendance of JJKs entire baseball season and it would still be less than a single PV-GC football game. No one round here really cares outside of football what you've done.

LOL One of the most honest Post's ever.

Sometimes that might be a good choice to make when you look at the flip side of being losers. Just for the record JJK always has fun, and it wouldn't be entertaining for JJK if they won every game all the time, they like to have a challenge of some kind, or atleast give other teams a glimmer of hope. That's only good sportsmanship. :)
And like Kelly really cares outside of baseball? That argument goes both ways and a PV person could say the same thing about it with Kelly. Football is the sport around here, baseball comes in third.

Re: Since everybody from JJK had fun in the fall
I dont quite think the Vikes took any of Kellys grass friday haha
-
Re: Since everybody from JJK had fun in the fall
It funny people talking about taking grass from Kelly. I Rember kids dads mowing it to kiss Shupes ass. LOL
-
Re: Since everybody from JJK had fun in the fall
What's funnier than that is I remember kids smokin' some of Kelly's KY Blue Hemp Grass and trying to play baseball.
