Jeez, and butchered ones with aftermarket voice coils too...
"TALK ABOUT AN ITEM THAT CONTINUES TO GROW IN VALUE!"
Uh.... yeah. 31 grand each? Starting price? What's that all about?
Is he just crazy, or hoping to get an offer off eBay?
I'm getting a sense from whence Robbin' Robin is expecting this money...Quote:
I also feel ?money? will no doubt come more my way someday
You think he'd offer me a discount if he knew I was actually the Green Lantern in real life?
The guy that wrote the question that begins, "Not really interested" is clearly taking this way too seriously. You can't get a rational answer from a crack pot like this!
Nurse Rachet success story?
MK Ultra graduate?
Woodstock anniversary flashback?
PalinMania? (nah, too lucid)
'sa crazy world out thar folks. Kinda makes you wanna strap on a grenade belt 'fore ya head down to K-Mart, huh? :D
I think this guy is on the same planet as my ex-wife - you know, the indolent narcissistic one?
I think he's setting a trend.
There is now a pair of what were previously 515B's, on for $1100.
I'm not sure what you'd call them now as they appear to have non-Altec cone kits with unvented dust caps.

While 1100 might be a fair price for a pair of pristine 515's, these look like they've been dragged down the road on their mags, IMO, they're still a pair of 515B in need of a re-cone and paint job.
I notice he didn't post MY question/comments to him, which told him that the price he was asking was insane and that no one in their right mind would pay that for a set of illigitimatized speakers, and that for WAY less one could have a set of NEW 515B's with the correct cones and voicecoils from Great Plains Audio (even included the website address), and I signed it with my name, showing that I was the owner and webmaster of Altec Lansing's (unofficial) Homepage.
Wonder why he didn't post MY question????
;)
I suspect "we" are not his target audience.:DQuote:

If you check his other auctions, he also has some offerings for the Fender crowd and the Harley Davidson crowd.
Asking an outrageous price is one thing, and heck, a good seller always starts a little high to leave some bargaining room. But, where it gets a little "kooky" for me is that those featured and highlighted listings are not free or exactly cheap. Seems like it's going to a bit of an extreme just to say "look at this cool set of Altec 515's i have".
Just my .02 y'all understand..................
Yeah, it does seem to be a simple "look at me" ploy. A way to get people to read his rants and revelations. Clever, actually! Wish I'd thought of that.
He does, a least, include audio of the sweeps. :)
Can the thread be renamed? That isn't inflation. It's stupidity at a flagrant level that I haven't experienced in many years.
I do like the sound clips though...
Can't change the thread name - sorry.
The guy visits here. Here's his reply to my post to him:
"I would have posted your email but; too much YOU in it. Too obvious. Tacky. Pretty good try though."
I replied that I didn't believe it was tacky...
I think he's just "out there" to "be out there".
Hmmm . . . Everybody has a right to fail and this fellow is just exercising his rights.
Ebay pulled the auction
Nope, he just relisted them at a higher price.
Just like he said he would.

It appears to me this guy has some problems. I believe he knows what he is doing and just wants to get some attention. Which we are giving him here.
I bet he is reading this thread and laughing his tail off...
Hmm, I guess I'm missing some history here. What factory 515 re-cone kit was available in the '70s that was 8 ohms AND higher power rated? Plus, my four matched 16 ohm 515Bs play well above 2 kHz before rolling off, so why would he use this relatively low limit in his sweep unless re-coned with a 421-8H kit (assuming it will physically work) which peaks around 2 k?
GM
So, what you guys are saying is that you haven't snatched these up quite yet?
I'm waiting for $500,000, I wouldn't pay any less for them.......
Ron
I like the post from 417-Alnico. That's a whole bunch of stuff at what looks to be a really good price no?
This is purely my .02, and not meant to offend.Quote:

If a fella had a solid plan to put most of it right to work, i think it'd be worth a closer "in person" look.
OTOH, as an investment, i would not expect any short term return. I think it'd be easy to saturate the market before you hit the break even point. There's a lot of very similar stuff there.
I don't wanna sound like a snob, but there's no "good stuff", no large format horns or drivers, no 515's in any shape or form. The only remarkable driver, an 802D sounds like it's barely a usable core. I value 421's if they're perfect at about 100 bucks a pop, driver bodies marked 804 or 807 i'd hate to even have to give money for.
Honestly, i'm pretty sure the seller will have to lower his starting bid by several thousand, or break the lot into smaller groups before it's going to even get serious tire kickers.
Maybe he should insert my signature in his description as so many before him have.
Anybody remember how the fella up in Canada did with his thirty-six A7-500's?
