Week 2

Tazewell @ Gate City-I think Gate City wins this one 28 to 7. GC has revenge on their minds from last years heart breaking loss to the Bulldogs.

Giles @ Christiansburg-Giles was favared in preseason to be the favorite to win Region C. This game will tell us if they are back on track or not. I think Christiansburg give Giles their second loss with a score of 28 to 17

Appalachia @ JI Burton-With Appalachia off to a great start can they start off with a 2-0 record? These two teams have played some real competetive games in the past. I just dont think Appy has it this year. Burton wins 44 to 24.

Richlands @ Honaker-Will Richlands get back on track this week? I say yes they will. The game wont be close. Richlands rolls 56 to 0. Just hope Honaker does not win the WEAK BDD and knock a well deserving team out of the playoffs yet again.

Clintwood @ Haysi-This game may have playoff implications. Haysi will likely be playing either Norton or Clintwood in the first round of the Region D Division 1 playoffs. This game will be won by Clintwood 35 to 6.

Game of the week

Lebanon @ Powell Valley-Huge game in Division 2. This game will give us an indication of how Region D Division 2 really stacks up. Is Lebanon all it is hyped up to be? I think it will be a close game with Lebanon pulling it out on their last drive of the game 35 to 28.

Gate City in another close, low scoring, defensive ball game. The Devils aren't going to score a lot but they can win some ball games. Saying that, watching them play will be about as much fun as watching paint dry this season.

Burton will beat Appalachia but it will be closer than many will predict, like GC, Appy can burn a clock up on a man. When the dust settles I see Burton winning by two scores.

The Clintwood/Haysi game will confirm what we have all known for several years now, playing the regular season in Region D Division 1 is pointless. Just go put JIB/CW on a field tell them the winner goes to state (because Region C can't touch them either) in August.

PV/Lebanon will leave the people in GC hyped up, cocky, and nervous all at the same time. I mean we might as well admit it guys, there is no other team either school or its fanbase would rather beat in a big game. You'll get two of them this year, just like the first part of this decade. PV wins their home opener by a wider margin that many think and get me ready for October when PV/GC go at it.

Off topic but at this point there are only 4 games a year I really, really care if PV wins. One is Lee just do to the amount of family down there, two is Appalachia just because if they beat us in anything you never hear the end of it, I pull for both Lee and Appy outside of the PV games though. The other two I hope lose every game they play every year and that is GC and JIB. I don't like people from GC by and large, in fact it is the only group of people in Southwest Virginia that I really just don't care much for. There are only two people from that town that I've ever met that I care for, one is Jason and another is an employee at the college. As for JIB, I like the people I just don't care much for the football team. The PV/JIB thing is about as ugly as it gets and I don't see it getting better any time soon.

And you know I feel the same about PV.:D If only Norton and PV could both lose when playing each other.LOL! I like the folks I have met at both PV and Norton just hate the teams.:D

Tazewell @ Gate City-It sounds like GC is now a bigger version of what Appy used to be and will try to use ball control and a good kicking game and great D to beat teams that MAY have more talent (not meaning that as a knock against them at all) I was impressed that GC shut down the Richlands Spread last week but fully expect it this week ----------GC by 7

Giles @ Christiansburg-Giles was upset last week but I look for them to get back in to where they were expected to be this week -------Giles by 14

Appalachia @ JI Burton-Is Appy really at a level that they can compeat with Burton? even with there new players I do not think Appy can contain Burton Speed Wise (they may not give up as many 60+ yard TDs but Burton will be happy to grind it out 25 yards a pop :) ) IMHO this is a charter building game for Appy they are without a doubt a better team this year than they have been the last few seasons but they need to stay togethar if this week does not go well in order to have a good season-----Burton by 28

Richlands @ Honaker-It will be a long night for everone involved-------Richlands by 42

Clintwood @ Haysi-How good is Haysi? I honistly do not think anyone knows the word is that they lost a scrimage to Pound (they must be bad) to haveing a 32-0 1st half against Pound in there benifit game.......Haysi will attack Clintwood with there passing game if Clintwood can keep good coverage with Haysi's speedy recevers they will be OK.....the game is at Sandlick again this season which is usaly good for a 7 point swing-------Clintwood by 14

I'm not that worried about the playoffs this year, in terms of a good team getting left out. The BDD will not send a D2 game freeing up a spot that most times is in serious doubt for most of the year.

Is Sullivan Central better than they usually are this season or something?

VHS is improved but there not where they will be in a few years imo. PV would've beat them by 3-4 scores in that scrimmage on most nights imo. They got burnt deep twice that let VHS back into it. I think it will be one hell of a fight for the last playoff spot between VHS and JJK. LPD out of conference wins will be huge this season.

Since nobody else has mentioned it,there's another big game Friday night (every game in the LPD is big): Pound visiting JJK. It's no secret that over the years,this has been the "red-letter" game for Pound. The "Cats always play the Tribe tough,and I fully expect to see a hard-fought,hard-hitting game. I think in the end though,the Tribe has too many weapons for the folks from Pound. The guys at Pound have shucked some weight and gotten themselves a bit quicker. They are going to need that Friday night to try to run down McArthur and friends. Kelly gets it 27-13.

Not so sure about that the last 3 years have been 80-14 in favor of Kelly IMHO If Kelly does not win this one by at least 28 points it would have to be viewed as a disapointment

As for my pick I think Kelly keeps rolling toward a Div 2 playoff birth and wins this one by 35

There QB is a good runner but a sorry passer and seemed to get worse as the game went on plus he seemed to stair down the recever he was going to throw to I think A good D should should shut down there O


That being said if they find a QB that can hit some of those WRs in stride and they will be tough
