Went to a Gregg Bissonette clinic earlier in the week, and he was talking about a session he did for that movie with none other than VINNIE, him and Curt Bisquera! 3 drummers playing at once appearently! (he said the charts took some skill to read!) Gotta see that movie.... [img]tongue.gif[/img]

How did you like Gregg's Tribute to Stewart Copeland thing?
I've heard his trib to Ringo [w GB's homemade chart], but where can you hear/get this Stew thing?
Just saw the movie. I knew Vinnie had played on the soundtrack, so I was careful to the music. Do you know in which part of the movie are Vince & Gregg playing? My guess would be in the crazy car chase near the end. Kinda intense & rythmitic orchestral drum&bass...
Those Bourne movies are not so bad but nowhere near the books which I liked.

i saw the gregg clinic too. was totally impressed with gregg's tribute to stewart....firstly it makes you realise how good stewart is and those songs were and secondly was just great to listen too and watch.
gregg's latin stuff is really cool now and it was a great clinic....
i couldnt really say hi cause he seemed very busy afterwards and everyone wanted a piece of him, you know?
ladanny, the Copeland tribute was great! (nice sightreading! [img]cool.gif[/img] ) He did a massive Ringo tribute as well, which was just amazing - He had Ringos tradmark feel down so well. There are pictues taken by the drumshop that hosted it here, including closeups of the Copeland charts.
Tombo, GB mentioned something about a "crazy car chase" (those were his exact words if I remember!) in the movie where the three of them where playing, so I assume it was the place your talking about.

Guess I'll have to rent the DVD & check the tracks listing.
Vinnie is Gregg's fave drummer. Mine too; or could you have guessed? [img]tongue.gif[/img]

Ok thanks! There are lots of drums in the car chase, I thought some were programmed, but if they were 3, now that makes sense. I swear I heard some Vinnieness at a couple of places...
I'm wondering if they still project the movie while musicians record a soundtrack; to inspire them or place them in the mood. Anybody here knows about it?

I haven't seen the movie yet, but Gregg described it as a faster version of Led Zeplin's Immigrant Song, during the crazy car chase scene.
He's done double drumming with Vinnie before on the latest David Garfield CD (Giving Back) on the tune called "Tune for Tony" for the one and only Tony Williams. If you haven't heard it, GET IT!! It's some INCREDIBLE playing and soloing, and, IMHO, shows just how deep Gregg's pocket is. Oh yeah, you get to hear Vinnie do blush-da!
The Stewart Copeland music is his ONLY copy, so he BETTER make some back ups!!! I looked at that sheet and TRIED to follow it. It's a notation all is own. LOL!

James Hetfield is a better drummer than Lars Ulrich. Does that mean James Hetfield is better than Vinnie Colaiuta?

If it's not in your OWN personal handwriting, then that presents a precarious prob all its own... ;c)
Personally, charts that have been printed by computer are SO much easier to read than someone's own [personal] scrawl/chicken-scratch - because it's so much neater, uniforn, & evenly-spaced, etc. I worked w a keybdst who ran all his charts through a software of some sort...so much easier to read!!
I have a copy of GB's chart to the Ringo Trib, & while it's great documentation, his own pers handwriting makes it somewhat difficult to sight read down. I'd have to have it printed [or re-write in my OWN 'scratch!] ;c)

Gregg's a fine player, but...it's the muillenium, &...he needs to get some music software & a printer!! [img]tongue.gif[/img] Oh well, guess it works for him, so why bother! But you'd end up having twice as many print-out pages to accomaodate the charts anyway [& GB's in particular]!

Hey Fuse,
Gregg is the 1st person to admit his short comings when it comes to technology. I'm sure if he was able, he would LOVE to get his notation capabilites to the computer age.
Anyway, I hope I can see/hear Gregg perform the Stewart Copeland tribute soon. Not sure if he's doing any clinics in the LA area anytime soon.

Great post you guys!! I love the pictures!! Where did this clinic take place?? I wish I was more on top of when and where these clinics take place with these great drummers. It's funny you mention gregs "charting". He was my 1st serious drum teacher, and I still have a book with alot of his "chicken scratchings". I remember when practing some of the stuff, I'd end up playing stuff on the "e" instead of on the "and" and visa versa. But hey!! If it woyks, it woyks!!

Gregg was double drumming as far back as 83 with Steve Houghton for the Knight Rider TV gig.
i guess this clinic must've been a recent one. i remember seeing GB's clinic about 2years ago, and he said that his alltime favorite drummer was RINGO. in fact, much of the clinic was with him playing along to some of the beatles' hits that he thought proved that ringo was a genius. it was on of the best clinics i'd ever been to.
as for the the chart, yeeesh! now that's a real world chart!
That brings up a good question, does anyone have any programs for the comupter that allow you to write/compose sheet music?
I think Coda's Finale is pretty much the industry standard for notation.
