Just out of Curiosity
It's coming down in buckets here in Appalachia, I assume it's doing the same all over Wise County. I know JJK had all of those P-Nut games on the field last weekend, they were scheduled to have a JV game but they canceled that, and the varsity game is Friday. Despite canceling the JV game Monday I have to imagine that field is in pretty rough shape? Unchained, Sportsman, anybody from JJK do you guys think it will be a mud bowl?

Re: Just out of Curiosity
move it to the college if it's that bad.
-
Re: Just out of Curiosity
Ain't no way on God's green Earth that game will be played anywhere but Kelly...muddy is how they'd prefer it I'd imagine. With no passing game and little speed, that's the way ya want it.
-
Re: Just out of Curiosity
Playing at the College would be a huge advantage to Powell Valley, while playing on a muddy Kelly field would help the indians. Theres no way BI moves it
-
Re: Just out of Curiosity
I agree that it will be played at Wise. One question though, did PV suddenly get some rush of transfers with some great speed? I didn't see anything that stood out speed wise from them.

They're faster than Kelly at the skill positions...and when that's the case, if you have the slower players, you play it in mud if ya can. Really, at Clintwood PV didn't make the most of their capabilities...it puzzled me why you would want to beat your head against a brick wall for 4 quarters hoping it would break. But, at the skill positions, they have some pretty dang fast athletes.

Re: Just out of Curiosity
It's not been just the CW game either. It's been all the CW games and both GC games last year (or maybe the year before), and the RL game they won at the Park. I've never thought Pinkston to be fast. He's more power. Of course I've never seen him get a run over 10-15 yards to show if he can run. The best player that PV has IMO is Fannon. He's not fast but he's good. He reminds me of a less athletic, not as physically impressive McKinney. If PV is fast Jelly is molasses. ;)

Re: Just out of Curiosity
My guess is it will be a muddy mess on 95% of the fields in the area Friday. The other 5% have turf.

Which ones besides Honaker have turf?

Guess you never will either....Pinkston is no longer with the Vikings.

Any story behind this?
And if it's 'personal' and/or sensitive info, please send me a PM if you don't mind.
This is a huge loss for the Vikings if true.

Re: Just out of Curiosity
I had heard something about that.
-
Re: Just out of Curiosity
I don't think it will really have much of an effect on the outcome of the game Friday, Dathan Davis is just as hard, if not harder of a runner than Pinkston anyway.
-
Re: Just out of Curiosity
To say JJK is slow this year has to be from people who haven't seen them play this year...I'm not saying they are barn burners or anything but compared to the last few years they are much more athletic...the game shouldn't be moved and take senior day (since JJK has the screwed up schedule of playing at CW, Appy & JIB the last 3 weeks with no more home dates).
The JJK QB could throw the ball is someone worked on his mechanics and footwork with him...PV without Pinkston if this is the case will make for an even more interesting contest but in no way was PV going to be far superior speed wise this year.

Is Mabe not assisting with the quarterbacks this year and/or assisting them with the things you mentioned?
-
Re: Just out of Curiosity
If the Pinkston thing is true, when does he show up at Norton :)
In all seriousness, if its true, the over-inflation of value of those kids, comparing them to the Jones brothers was toxic.

Re: Just out of Curiosity
I'd say bout the same time Pound transfers show up at clintwood

Re: Just out of Curiosity
Losing Myron is huge, i dont care what anyone says.
He is the most talented kid out there. PV has talent, and can still contend, but PV will be missing a lot without him.
-
Re: Just out of Curiosity
He's a good player no doubt, but one player does not a team make. I can think of a handful of players that I'd rather have on my squad than him.

The word is he threw a bottle at a moving vehicle and was charged with a felony and until this is resolved he is not on the team. Anyway he is a talented football player and a big loss. PV has some talent, but have not been able to put it all together this year so far. Reality is they are 2 and 4, so I cannot see it getting any worse just because he is not there, I could be wrong and i hope I am not.
I am sure he is a good kid and sometimes young kids do not realize the consequences of what they do at the time until it happens.
-
Re: Just out of Curiosity
PV lost games with him, and if he causes dissension, then they will be better off. Just my take on things.
-
Re: Just out of Curiosity
Throwing something at a car is a felony?
That does not sound right at all.
And there is ZERO word that the player caused dissention on the team. To mention that does more harm than good, especially when you have no evidence to back that up.
And posters saying taht there are handfuls of kids you'd rather have? Why?
There are maybe 3-4 kids in the LPD as talented or more talented than him, that's it.
I dont know where you guys get all this; I've never heard anything to suggest he is not a team player or good for a team. If you'd rather have mediocre players instead of good ones, thats fine, thast your stupidity.
-
Re: Just out of Curiosity
I've always heard he's a really good kid. So I'd never say anything like some have here in the later part of this thread. On the field though, he's never really impressed me much with his play. He looks great but so far from what I've seen the action doesn't match the body.
-
Re: Just out of Curiosity
IMO, regardless of a player's ability, if he is detrimental to the team then the team is better off without him. PV's not lost a game to a team they should have beaten. Pinkston is a good player, but I really don't think he is anymore important to the team than any of the other starters are. I don't think PV gets any better with his departure, but I don't think they get any worse either. With or without him, I still think they end up 5-5. If he was kicked off the team for more than what has reported on here, then that, combined with Phil's return to a running attack are signs that 1)-Phil has decided to take control of the team's discipline again and 2)-Phil has come back to his senses. Both bode well for the future of the football program at PV IMO.

Re: Just out of Curiosity
I have NEVER EVER heard one bad word about the player. I know him, and he is a good kid.
beast there is ZERO word that he was not a good teammate or not good for the team.
Lung, he's been injured almost all this year, never truly being 100%. His raw athleticism and power were shown more his soph. and jr. year. He is just as good on defense as offense, people sometimes overlook that. As an OLB, he was a monster.
I am not saying PV's season is done or anything like that, but if this is true, its a huge loss.

I agree, everything I had heard about him was positive and as far as RBs go I think if I were starting a team Miles would be my 1st chooise but he would be a solid #2
Not haveing him WILL hurt PV there is no way aroud that...before hearing this news I was giveing PV a slight advantage in there game vs Kelly now I am thinking Kelly has the advantage
-
Re: Just out of Curiosity
When he is 100%, he's tough to beat.
He has the breakaway speed to make big plays, but also the raw power to break tackles and not go down at the LOS.

Really? I must have missed the Pound players transferring to Clintwood midseason. In the offseason is one thing, you know kind of like all these foreign exchange students that come in. I think actually the numbers from Pound to Clintwood may now be equal to the Clintwood kids that went to Pound a few years back. That being said, none got booted off of one team and jumped to the other.

I've never heard anything bad about him either...I was just stating my general opinion concerning players that are booted off of HS teams.

Yeah, it's a felony. Hurling a missile at an occupied vehicle or some such is the way it's termed, and it's considered a felony.

Re: Just out of Curiosity
how did i know ID would say something to that effect.
man pinkston was a physical presence on the field even when he was very young,i know IMO i think ID wants to feel that much better about himself if kelly wins. He is probably one of the better players around here top 3 at least

..and how did I know you'd just have to point me out in another post? It's kinda weird man. Nothing that I said that many others don't feel too.

That is someone's PERSONAL business, its no one's business about a students living arrangements.
You have ZERO class. You need to edit your post, that is extremely disrespectful. Learn some class.
So a player has missed a practice or two, who hasn't? You seem like you have a personal problem with the kid. You need to just leave it alone.
You think you could do a better job than Phil? Can you win state titles and 10+ LPD titles? I didnt think so.
You obviously have something personal against Phil and the player in question, and if my inclination is right, you work at PVHS, you need to not air a STUDENT's personal business on a public forum. That's disrespectful and shows you have no class.

Re: Just out of Curiosity
Well, all my arguing with Cane has just gone for naught about valour. I do apologize Cane for doubting all of you all. Airing a kid's personal life on the internet on a public forum is uncalled for Michael.

Come on, you should know better than that.
