If it ends up being true, its going to get interesting in Knoxville. Killer time with less than a month to national signing day.
According to Volquest it is apparently true. The recruits will be leaving like rats jumping from a sinking ship.
Tennessee's Lane Kiffin has agreed in principle to become the next head coach at Southern California, sources close to the situation told ESPN.com's Chris Low on Tuesday.
Kiffin would replace Pete Carroll, who jumped to the NFL as coach of the Seattle Seahawks.
Kiffin, the former Oakland Raiders coach, led the Volunteers for only one season.
Sources told ESPN Kiffin will bring his father and defensive coordinator, Monte Kiffin, and assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron to Southern Cal with him, and wide receivers coach Kippy Brown will be named interim head coach at Tennessee.
Kiffin has been on the move of late. He was 7-5 in his one season at Tennessee and 5-15 in one-plus seasons with the Raiders before being fired in September 2008.
He was a member of the USC coaching staff from 2001-06.
Several presumptive candidates to replace Carroll had dropped out of the running in the 24 hours after Carroll officially announced his resignation. Former USC linebacker Jack Del Rio committed to staying in Jacksonville on Tuesday, while Jeff Fisher and Mike Riley showed no public interest despite their Trojans ties.
The looming shadow of NCAA sanctions likely worried some coaches, but it can't change the fact USC offers an extremely attractive position with everything necessary to succeed right away: a rich local talent base, ample talent already on hand, a glowing history and a large, wealthy alumni base eager to keep winning.
Quarterback Matt Barkley has said that he is staying at Southern Cal despite the departures of the three coaches to which he was closest: Carroll, Jeremy Bates and Steve Sarkisian.
"It's just a great place to be, and a great place to live," he said. "We've got everything going for us."
Athletic director Mike Garrett was thought to be in charge of the search, but the elusive former Heisman Trophy winner has barely spoken in public for months, shying away from any chance of getting trapped into talking about the NCAA's various investigations into his beleaguered department.
Tailback Allen Bradford and Barkley were among the leaders who called a team meeting before the offseason conditioning program began Tuesday, while receiver Brice Butler and Barkley planned to call all of USC's prospective recruits to urge them to stick with the Trojans.
"I would just tell them what my dad told me: 'Don't commit because of a coach, because that can change,'" said Butler, who came to USC from Georgia. "You've got to commit because of a program, and this is USC."
I wouldnt mind seeing Kippy Brown being given the job completely unless Hamilton can land a proven big time coach.
Wooooooowwwww. The love is gone now and Vol fans don't have too much to look forward to next year, which wasn't going to be great anyway....I love it!
hahaha...money well spent
Bunch of recruits have already de-committed and back out, that would be the early enrollee's.
this is wild, this is so unsuspected.
i bet the UT fanbase is ****ED
Al Davis---"I told you this guy was a douchebag". Lol...wheres suprbeast now?

I see nothing wrong with it. I just wish it'd been a 2-3 years from now. Anyone not thinking he was drooling over the chance to take over USC would be crazy. When Carroll stepped down, I was worried. He'll do a good job there.
whats funny, is this is a smart move.
UT has fallen to the wayside in the SEC, Florida and Bama are the SEC hot schools, then LSU.
UT is an after thought. Whats even funnier is all the Tech fans cracking jokes
USC > UT > VT in programs.
you cant argue with that, 2 of those 3 have won natl titles
the one who hasnt starts with V and ends with a T.
USC is the premier team of the Pac 10, Bama and Florida is of the SEC and Texas and Oklahoma is of the Big 12.
Who are some possible candidates for the UT job now?
Leech to Tennessee?
Could UT adapt to that style of offense?
I think he'd do great, esp in the SEC with their line it up and run it mindset.
the one that starts with a V and ends with a T throttled UT in their bowl game, has a staff that has mostly been in tact for 20 years...doesn't have football and basketball players facing jail time...didn't hire a high profile coach, only to have him bolt after one season...hasn't had to suffer through bowl-less seasons (plural)
and most importantly neither USC or UT have won 10+ games every year for the past 6 years, but they both played someone who has!
It doesn't surprise me Kiffin went to U$C. What does is he went with the hammer possibly ready to fall on the USC FB program. Why do you think the other potentail coaches backed out? And Pete bolted for the NFL? Is that smell Probation?
Thats what surprised me GC1. The possible probation of USC was what made me feel a little at ease with Carroll leaving.
On a side note, a friend of mine who is a big Texas fan says UT has already been in contact with Will Muschamp. That would be a pretty good pickup I believe.
no way Leech goes to UT
im hearing Gary Patterson from TCU, but I doubt that.
What about Cut??
Cant blame Kiffin tho, he's coached out there, familiar with the area, and USC is a higher profile job.
Markeith Ambles come on down!! lol
Stripes ive heard Will Muschamp as well
look, you cant twist that anyway you want.
Tech didint play in a conference with the last 3 national champions did they?
Has Tech EVER won a natl title, EVER?
What happened last time Tech and USC played?
are you dead serious with the players facing jail time comment?
I mean seriously man, home of the Vick brothers?
That was a Rick James comment there, I bet they didint just grind their feet in peoples couches, but they remember grinding their feet in Eddies couch.
And those 10+ games they won the last 6 years got them....?
USC won a natl title in the past 10, UT in the past 12 and Tech in the past never.
You play to win titles, no win 10 games.
NCAA just finished their investigation of USC today, but the football program has known for 2 weeks what allegations theyll be facing...so the timing seems weird for Kiffin to just jump on it, unless he's been talking to them for some time
rules infractions committee will meet Feb 19 to decide what penalties USC will face
Wow. That is something.
I wouldnt mind that. I think it may pull back some of the defensive recruits we are poised to lose at this point. I hate to see how strong the rest of the SEC gets though if we cannot secure some of these recruits. It really puts UT behind the 8 ball already down a bunch of scholarship players to begin with.
Thread title on Volquest says:
"Coach O just texted all freshman saying they have a spot at USC"
yeah I dont think Muschamp is a dropoff at all, the dropoff will come with Orgeron and Monte leaving.
Lung, is Ambles gonna decommit?
http://www.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fi...id=880&style=2Also reported riots in Knoxville....
They are gonna have to do something quick if they want to keep any of them.
Dozens of students and fans marched into the Neyland-Thompson Sports Complex on Tuesday night chanting obscenities at Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin, who was informing his players about his departure to Southern California.
The crowd then moved to an office area where an impromptu press conference was being held for Kiffin.
Police were called to quell the crowd, which calmed down once officers arrived.
The crowd eventually became rowdy and were asked to disperse without incident.

Tech beating tennessee this year proves one thing, they were a better team THIS YEAR! Jus t because tech has had a good 10 year run doesnt mean they are even close to being the same type of program as USC or Tennessee. Im sure vol fans and trojan fans would agree that they would rather have national titles, than a silly little 10 win streak.
No matter how bad the last 5 years have been for Tennessee or how bad the future looks , Tech wont be taken seriously by tennessee, the sec, or the big time college football programs( IE Alabama, USC, Notre Dame, ect.) until they win a crystal football. Actually beating someone not named Cincinnati in a BCS bowl would be a great start. (Rant Over)
Anyone want to call Layla Kiffin?
310-428-9233
Merry Christmas! I am glad Kiffen is gone. I think he is good at recruiting but the coaching is still to be proven. I think going with a run play on 3rd. and 15 twice and 3rd. and 21 once shows he was little "goofy" during the VT game. I also believe he was taking the program down a path that they don't need to travel. I have heard more investigation inquiries this past 14 months than I can remember since the first time I saw Reggie White. I hope the President and the AD have learned a valuable lesson. GO VOLS!
anyone call yet? is that the right #?
