Everybody and their brother reads this thing. Most don't have enough gumption to post/say who they are though. I have a ton of respect for people who stand behind what they say on here and absolutley zero for those who post behind a username.
Well, he just stood up big time on the other thread. Just hope it shuts some up now.
BTW, if you are a coach, why get on here and risk being discovered and then ridiculed for something on this board. Crabtree has resigned now, so it really doesn't matter about him anymore.
Actually I was a little disappointed when I read the reason for resigning.
He knew he was going to, sooner than later, be focusing full time on his son's activities and wouldn't be available to continue coaching. Yet he took the job anyhow.
Personally I don't think that's fair to the kids on the football team - any sports team needs a leader that has intentions of staying with it and staying committed. A person that only intends on keeping a coaching job for a brief while before they have to meet other obligations is doing the school no favors.
Just my opinion.
you are missing one HUGE point though, he pretty much took that job because nobody else wanted it or was even close to being as qualified as he was. you have to see it in another way, if he hadnt taken the job they may not have been able to play at all.Quote:

I still feel it was no huge favor to the school to take the job because no one else wanted it. They're right back full circle at point A. Now there's a risk of not having a program at Pound in the coming year because of 1) not being able to find someone else to do it 2) severe funding shortage
What has changed at Pound in two years that would make someone else jump at the opportunity? What existing teacher will want to take it? Do they hire someone that doesn't teach already to take the job, when job cuts are already looming in the future due to budget shortfalls?
Him taking it as a supposed favor to keep it going was only a bandaid on a gushing wound.
As I said before, that's my opinion, and I found the matter to be disappointing.
I'm not crucifying the guy - I'm just disappointed that this is how it all worked out.
He took it so he could get a job back in the area after leaving Ervinton to be a pastor at a church in Texas. He found out then, it wasn't for him. There were others just as qualified that put in for that job.
That's untrue and just his spin. There is a poster on here who has coaching experience, who wanted the job, and who interviewed for the job before Crabtree did.Quote:

Burton of the 80's was very much the same as Pound is now. My 4 years palying we won a total of 11 games. losses to St. Paul , Rye Cove, Ervinton and even Pound was not an upset. Coaches had to hold tackling dummies because we didn't have enough players to practice 11 on 11.
hey, if pound needs new blood and an assistant coach, id coach for free.
if i coached offense, all Ill say is that Pound would no longer be predictable.
on defense, i would make those kids learn so many different looks their football homework would be more than their school homework haha

Aren't you in favor of closing Pound ,Appy and St Paul? The budget is only going let this go on for one more year(or less) , so why get all upset now? More classes, more AP classes, who cares about the football team. I got to laugh at you wanting to be fair to the kids on the football team now. We should be worring about how we are going to get the kids to college, since the HS buses won't run there anymore, after the funding cuts and graduation.Quote:

I had an opinion on the circumstances around accepting and resigning a job. That's all there is to it. The opinion likely would have been the same had the circumstances revolved around any other school (including a shiny new consolidated Wise Co school) or with any other activity/sport.
This was not an "oh no my poor PHS football team" lament. What I was saying was you dont take on that kind of responsibility knowing full well you have no intention of following through long term. This is the type of job that should be entered into with intentions of making it work long term.
This Pound we're talking about. Everybody, including Crabtree I'm sure, knew there was no "long term" when it came to Pound.
I'm sorry, but even it had been 11 wins from 1742 - 1989 I would still find it VERY unfair to Burton to compare them to Pound.Quote:

I forgot about Clintwood. But you guys are just proving my point. And that is it takes more than 2-3 years to even thinks about producing a team to be able to compete in the lpd. And we aren't talking about coaches who have retired already. Only active and only lpd.

I'm a coach and figure being ridiculed goes along with the territory. All coaches get praised and ridiculed at some point in their career. I've been called a good coach by some and bad coach by others. You just have to take it all with a grain of salt and keep going about your business. I do choose not to comment on anything that directly involve me or my team. Just ignore it and move on. No need to open up a can of worms or create a fake account to try and defend myself.Quote:
