What's the boys schedule? I haven't been keeping up with it at all, are they tonight?
Yes, Appy/CW should be about ready to get underway, with both the boys and girls D2 games to follow.
Appy up by 6 early second half.
Turning around now 40 - 35 Castlewood. The same kid who other poster say mugged Garrison in the PV game just picked up a foul plus a technical on one play in a tight game!
Quarter and Time??? Is it on radio?
wow, how much is left?
Less than 2 minutes left now. Castlewood pulls away. It's done...about 10 points now. Appy self-destructed.
Announcer says Castlewood had an 18 - 0 run during the 4th?! Devils by about 10, not sure of the final score?
48-37, they just said.
J.J. Kelly 14 Lee High 12 -end of 1st qt.
Kelly 27 Lee 16- halftime
Kelly 33 Lee 33 -end of 3rd qt.
48-47 Kelly is up. 5.7 seconds left. Lee has the ball.
J.J. Kelly 48 Lee High 47 -final
I've always said that you'll not find a better coach anywhere than Robin Dotson, and this year may have very well been his finest job since he's been the head coach. We lost 4 out of the starting 5 to graduation, and had a team that alot of folks even from Wise labeled as "lazy and untalented",yet here they are at 20 wins with another regional crown. I wouldn't have bet on this earlier this year (heck just 2 weeks ago). Heckuva job by Coach Dotson and his ladies from JJK who showed some folks otherwise tonight.
goin back to the appy/cwood game. that 18-0 run was bull crap. appy started gettin bad calls on them that whole quarter and it just killed them. its hard to beat the reffs.
So you are saying the refs caused appy to miss all their shots and free throws in the 4th quarter until a layup with around a minute left? Even in the event of bad calls an 18-0 run should never happen. The refs do not make one teams shots go in and the other teams not.
The calls were as always- Josh got called for a touch foul then got the T. The refs , I just don't understand- sometimes someone gets floored and you get no call then you get called for looking at the ball the next possession. 4 free throws and the ball was a backbreaker. I don't understand why Appy subs like they do, I know I beat this horse to death, but Turner subbed when you were hurt (as in couldn't walk) too tired to move, or he was far enough ahead that the other group had kinda given up. But we all know I'm not a coach. And the foul total was ...what, about 15 for both teams for the game? And with the amount of points I hope whoever wins can play enough D to stay with the next group of teams.
Yeah, I've watched basketball most of my life and I've never heard or seen some bad calls cause an 18-0 run. Never. Castlewood would have to be making some shots and Appy missing them, which is probably what happened, because what you said makes no sense...and as Judge Judy says, if it doesn't make sense, its probably not true. You can only use the ref card so much, then we know you're exaggerating big time.
i know we couldnt get the shots/foul shots to go in, but when you can not even touch a other player without getting a foul called on you, its pretty rediculous. forrest had a player from cwood pushing and shoving on him all night and knocked him down a few times and they didnt call a foul on that until the third quarter. and there was no way both teams had about 15 fouls. when all our players had about 4 or 3 fouls, and castlewood had one player with 4. the rest had 2, 1, or maybe no fouls.
im pretty sure you can give a lil shove and play up close on defense, but we couldnt even do that, but oh well. we still get to move on and play the region c champ and hopefully its eastern montgomery because we gonna show em up this time
It was like 5-1 in fouls late in the 1st half, Josh had 2 late in the 4 qtr , they called another and the T made 4. We got several in the closing mins, but I thought the calls were one-sided, also. Even the other bunch's fans that sat near us were laughing at the way the game was called. Maybe Kuzco is still mad from the 90s.:D He did the best job of the bunch, he even managed to remember to count at the same pace all the time. Still, Appy had their shots, you have to put people away when you get to this level, you can't let them back in the game.
i know what ya mean, but congrats to castlewood, goodluck next round hopefully we play again. its just a game though, so ya just gotta move on to the next one
Gotta feeling these 2 young teams are going to do some damage next year (and the next after...)
BRISTOL, Va. – It was a textbook sequence that will long be remembered by J.J. Kelly fans.
With nine seconds remaining in the Region D, Division 2 girls championship, 6-foot-2 sophomore Allison Mullins carved out prime position in the low post.
After two crisp passes and a forceful pivot, Mullins powered up a shot that kissed off the backboard and into the basket. Mullins converted the ensuing free throw, and Kelly held on for a wild 48-47 victory over the Lee Generals.
“I knew the ball was coming to me,” Mullins said. “I usually don’t do well under pressure, but I finished the play there.”
The decisive basket served as an exclamation point to a breakthrough performance for Mullins, who confounded the aggressive Lee defense for 27 points and 11 rebounds.
“We will all remember this one,” Mullins said.
The was the first regional title for Kelly (20-6) since a Group A state title run in 2002 might have offered taste of a glorious future. Ashley Mullins, the 6-foot-2 twin sister of Allison, supplied seven points and 14 rebounds.
“They are just pups right now,” said Kelly coach Robin Dotson. “We usually go as they go, but we’ve got a good group of girls that complement each other well.”
The game also served as maturation process for Lee, which started two sophomores, one freshman and two seniors.
The Generals (17-9) outscored Kelly 17-6 in the third quarter but never found a remedy for Kelly’s twin towers. Lee was outrebounded by a 40-22 margin.
“It’s tough to match up and box out against players with that size, but we fought our way back into the game,” Lee coach Stephanie Ward said. “Kelly just kept working the ball to the big girls inside There’s only so much you can do.”
Senior guard Jalan McPherson led the Generals with 14 points and five steals, while senior Chelsea Brock (11 points) and 5-foot-9 sophomore Morgan Miles (eight rebounds) also played well.
Lee recorded a drama-soaked semifinal win over Virginia High on Thursday as Makenzie Cluesman hit two free throws in the final seconds. After dominating the offensive boards in the third quarter, it appeared Lee was in position to record another landmark victory.
“We had lots of opportunities to come away with the win,” Ward said.
The final opportunity came with five seconds left. Just as Lee player went up for a potential game-winning jumper, Allison Mullins emerged to sway away the ball. The Kelly fans erupted in joy.
“[Mullins] hadn’t really stepped out of the paint all night, but she stepped out there,” Ward said. “ We had a chance to win the game. What more can you want?”
Junior guard Kaely Mullins supplied nine points for Kelly, including a 3-pointer that helped calm the large Lee fan base in the second half.
“I thought that was the biggest basket of the night,” Dotson said. “It seemed like we were dead in the water, but Kaely gave us some life and we started to belief.”
Mullins also played a starring role in the heroic sequence by Allison Mullins. She delivered a deft entry pass to Ashley Mullins, who quickly flicked the ball to an open Ashley Mullins.
“We had to seal the defenders up above so we could throw the ball from the point to the inside,” Dotson said. “Allison has tremendous hands. She caught the ball, pivoted and scored.”
Ashley Mullins credited the game-winning hoop to a deep bond forged from years of improvised basketball games with her
sister.
“We’ve been playing together since kindergarten,” Mullins said. “She just knows where to look for me when I’m open.”
Kelly will return to Virginia High next Saturday for a state quarterfinal game, while Lee must travel.

im lovin the d1 boys region c score.
this is pay back time for tha dawgs!
does anyone know where they will play the region d runner up/region c champion games at?
Salem Civic Center. I like Appy to get waxed, Castlewood to win a close one, Burton to win by 5-10, and I'll make a prediction JJK/Lee/Honaker/Lebanon once I figure out who is playing who.
I'm guessing all quarterfinal games on this end of the state will be played at James Madison, Salem Civic Center and Virginia High. EM will probably play in Salem.
well, to pvfan. thanks for go ahead and puttin appy down. we are part of the lpd just like pv so you think you would pull for us. i dont really like pv, but if they were goin i would root for them to. but yeah, we aint gonna lose.
I hope Appalachia wins, I don't think they will. Region C is pretty good, I don't give Honaker much chance of winning but hope they do. Lebanon will have a hard time as well but again would like to see them win. Appalachia goes all to pieces in a close game and has all season, it kills them.
ok, i was just checkin to see if you were actually hopeing we win. so thanks, and sorry for what i said. and i know region c is tough and we do go outta wack in close games, but our boys were so sad after losin to east mont last year, they are gonna go into this game ready to play.
Here all that goes again, that you have to root or be for anyone from around here just because. I'll be rooting for Burton girls and don't really care about anyone else.
I hope all of our teams win, it's rare that I ever pull against a Region D school in a state tournament. In fact, the only time I can remember doing it was when Gretna played GC for the state football title. It had nothing to do with GC, I know as many people from Gretna as I do GC.
That wasn't really directed towards you pvfan at all, just the other post and just my rant in general. I'm not saying I would ever go to a game and root for the other team from up north, just that I don't really care about any other team except mine. I know there have been plenty that really deep down, hasn't wanted Burton to win it the times they went, whether they admit it or not.
