2 outs, bottom of ninth with Glaus coming to the plate, I was getting ready to say oh well game over.
Glaus with the 2 run dinger to tie and then big stick Heyward ties it with a solo shot in the 9th. Priceless.......
Forget Rookie of the Year, kid my get mentioned for MVP...... I know, I know, it is way too early to say that but if he was batting in the 5 hole where Glaus has been and stranded over 40 runners in the first 2 weeks of the season he would have well over 30 rbi in the month. Put Glaus in the 8 spot and move Heyward up, he's ready and one of the only Bravos producing right now. It's sad that Prado is leading the league in hitting with a .460 avg but only has 3 rbi, that's sad
Bravos win it with the unlikeliest of heroes as McLouth comes through. Another huge win.
These 9th inning rallies won't keep cutting it.
They need to win more consistently. They need to start hitting the ball.
Heyward's got about 16 RBIs and 4 HRs on the season so far. Braves need to keep him.

I love watching people go nuts over players in their first bit as a big leaguer. I did the same when Jay Bruce first came up. He was dubbed the next great young star after going 15 for 26 in his first WEEK of his career with 3 HRs, 3 Doubles, 9 Singles, 6 walks, scored 12 runs, and drove in 6. That was in 7 games!
He's not exactly kept that pace going, but is still a fine baseball player. Let's see if Heyward can keep it up when teams get a book on him.
Heyward will do it barring injury. Its been projected by all baseball scouts since spring training last year. Freddie Freeman is the heir apparent at 1B too which will make a solid lineup for many years for the Braves, especially adding in McCann. I dont really remember Bruce being hyped by anyone other than Reds fans to Heywards level. Besides, 15 games into a career ,and less than 21 years old, only one other person has had as many RBIs as Heyward has, and he was referred to as the Splendid Splinter.
Oh well there you have it. 15 games into his career and he's the next Ted Williams!Quote:

The truth lies somewhere in the middle guys. Heyward's an awesome talent, but 7teen's got a point. I want to see what he does over a whole season. If he's a top 10 hitter at this age at season's end, then we've got another Albert Pujols on our hands, forget historical comparisons to Ted Williams. Save the historical comparisons for when he's been in the league about 10'ish years.
I'm a Reds fan, have been since I was real little. I hate the Braves with a passion--always have. But even I have thought about lifting my self-imposed ban from Atlanta to go down there and watch Heyward play in person one weekend.
It wasn't a historical comparison to Williams. It was a historical comparison to all MLB players under 21, it just happened to be that Williams is the only one who has equaled it. I would just like to shake hands with him they way they talk about how huge his hands are.

There have been many guys hit HRs in their first ABs that have gone on to have good careers and those who have been busts. I don't think hitting a HR on your first MLB pitch is indicative of how your career is going to play out.

I have made it a point of mine over the last few years to make sure I watch the modern great players/teams play. I watched the Yanks in Cincy about 6 years back, watched Clemens pitch for Houston against Cincy, watched Pujols last season. I've seen Sosa, Mcgwire, Bonds, etc... Heyward isn't on my list... YET.
Ironically enough, most of the great players I've seen have been linked to steroids. Bummer.
Steroids or not, greatness is greatness. Who's to say steroids haven't been used for decades? No one will ever own up to it, but steroids isn't a new problem..it's gone on for decades.

Is Heyward talented? Absolutely, I'm not denying that he isn't. Does he have the "tools" to be a great player? Absolutely. Does what he has done over the first 1/2 month of his career mean he is going to be the ROY, or MVP, or the next Williams, Ramirez, Pujols? NO! Could he be? Sure. But it is an extremely small sample size of a career right now to place him in the upper echelon of big league players.Quote:

The Braves have been utterly pathetic the past few games in their hitting.
I think the Braves will end up being fine but they have got to work on their hitting. I will never give up on Atlanta as I have supported them since I was very very little.
Hitting hasn't been good at all, but fielding has been even worse. Theyve looked like the bad news bears booting it and throwing it around this past week.
Stripes beat me to it, while the hitting has been terrible, batting under .200 with RISP, the fielding has been downright pathetic for a pro team.
Heyward isnt at fault tho, dunno why you posted that here trumpett, he is leading the NL in hits with RISP, and has the 2nd most RBIs with RISP
