Group A playoff proposal - what if ...
Re: Group A playoff proposal - what if ...
Wow! That would have been some awesome matchups!
One thing I must ask though. When they said when teams are 200+ miles apart they must play on neautral sites I thought that the two would have to meet somewhere in the middle? That way it would cut down on time of travel and allow for enough time to play the games in a timely manner. I am definately one fan that would travel no matter what to see these games and would even pay double. Best idea that I have seen yet.

I'd say you are in the minority...this plan will do OK until the VHSL gets the gate receipts for the playoff games.

That's the intention. But I just don't see how someone from the VHSL is going to say Gate City & (Region B team of the week) are going to play somewhere in the middle, like Pulaski. The #1 seed would have had THREE road trips of three hours for "home" games.
Shoot... ppl. kick on moving ONE game to Wise!

The thing about Wise is the fact it is not a high school regulation field. As long as the neautral sites that are determined by the VHSL in this plan are on High School Regulation fields then no one can say a thing about it.

How long has it been since the state game was played on a high school lined field? 8-9 years? Don't look for it to change.

Last year. Salem has both College and High School Markings. Salem also has both college and high school goal posts. The only Single A playoff games played on college fields are the D 1&2 Region D games and a very rare D1 State Semi game like last years. It has been awhile since the Single A State Title game has NOT been played on HS field.
Re: Group A playoff proposal - what if ...
Its been about 4 years, when they were played at JMU.
Re: Group A playoff proposal - what if ...
What is the actual difference between a "High School Regulation Field" and a "College Regulation Field"?
And does the VHSL already not get the gate for all playoff games?
Personally, I think, that when you make it to playoffs, you should get to enjoy certain perks like playing in a larger venue than you did in you regular season games. That is part of the tournament atmosphere. It should not seem like a regular season game.
And even though I am a girl, I am very sports minded. So don't take these questions as, oh, she doesn't know because she is a girl. I might be a girl, but I do know a thing or two about sports in the area. I am asking the questions because I want to learn more about the subject.
Re: Group A playoff proposal - what if ...
The hash marks are more centered on a collegiate football field and also the goal posts are narrower.

Salem is perfect for the State Title game because they actually have the means to host a high school football game. It is an excellent field because it can host both high school and college games, it has plenty of parking, and plenty of seating. But I would not mind seeing all 6 divisions playing at the same venue like how TN does. I also would not mind them to rotate from Virginia Tech to Virginia every two years. State Championship is the last game of the year and would be fair enough to play it on a College Field. I would love to have the chance to go to VT and take in all 6 State Championships in two days. I would go every year reguardless of who was playing. TN can put 6 state games at one site so why cant we? About your being a girl comment I know there are plenty of girls out there that know more about football than most of the fans we have in the stands around here. So your being a girl does not change a thing to me and the thought did not come to mind. Just ask away because there are plenty on here that have answers.:2thumbsup:

I think the ones that dont like this plan are the ones that just dont like change.:D Truthfully though I love it. I hope it does real well. I have been wanting to see a plan almost exactly like this for years. Doesnt Texas have a similar plan? Just look at how big that state is!

I dont like the part of the Dogwood joining the West but I really dont see any other way. Getting rid of Regions was definately the right move. You just cant even things out properly without doing so.

Let me clarify..I meant you were in the minority who would actually travel 2-3 hours to watch a "home" playoff game. There's no doubt, the home team has a bigger crowd if the game is played on their home field.

I would love for it to be played on the home field. But in the same token see no reason for long travel. Maybe not make the higher seeded team travel as far as the other team? Like if Powell Valley were the higher seed over say Gretna have them travel to Marion to meet up? I guess we will see what their plan is for those situations pretty soon.
