Mosby's closure

Anyone really surprised?

Heard about it a couple of weeks ago. Ate there about a month ago, the food was at an all-time low. Table asked for rolls, they brought out some rock hard brown & serve from Food City.

From what I've heard, it got to the point where they couldn't get any food delivered as the owners would take too long to pay for anything.

Not that the restaurant was ever all that good, but Wise Co. loses yet another eatery. I love the area, but when it comes to food, the only decent choice is Little Mexico.

I loved Mosby's, up until Phillip left and then it went way way way downhill. They had 19 beers on tap which is by far more than anyone around here, probably combined. I loved the Crab Stuffed Chicken.

Another place that closed a couple of years ago that we loved was Shannon's.

And as far as only good place to eat I gotta disagree there. I am not a picky person though so I like just about anything.

I'm far from picky, but I've had problems with pretty much every other restaurant around Norton/Wise.

Reno's - crappy service, haven't been back in over four years.
Monterrey - not the cleanest place
Asia Cafe - got sick after my last trip, prob. won't go back
Mi Finca - horrible, horrible food
Romano's - bad service, less than impressive food
FishTales - food has gone so far downhill over the last 10 years I'm surprised they're even open

Shannon's was good 10 years ago when I first moved to Wise Co. Towards the end it got pretty crappy.

I've eaten at Nutz a few times, it isn't bad, but hasn't lived up to the hype it gets.

As for Mosby's, other than a couple of good steaks, I was never impressed with anything I got there. Very unimaginative menu. Tried a pasta dish once, pasta had the consistency of library paste (extremely overcooked). Friend's wife got a similar dish a couple of years ago, same story.

As I said above, there are few places I will patronize. Little Mexico is one, although I've tried to stay away for non-food reasons. Bonanza isn't bad.

I'm really surprised we haven't had a chain buffet like Ryan's or Golden Corral locate near Norton/Wise. Buffets seem to do pretty well around here.

I am very surprised as well with the chain buffet. One of those would do great around here.

As far as restaurants go that are here.

Reno's - Didn't go there for about 4 years myself but the last few times I have went it has been good. Service has been great, some of the best waiters/waitresses in town.

Romano's - I love their huge burger, all their subs, and the Big Kahuna.... I like it

Mi Finca - Never had a problem there either. Food taste like most other Mexican restaurants.

Little Mexico - One of my favorites by far too

I liked several dishes at Mosby's...... Monterey Chicken, Crab Stuff Chicken, most all steaks, etc.....

I agree on Shannon's too, when Shannon owned it, it was great. Once he sold out to Addison, it sucked.

Asia Cafe - Love it, go at least once a week.

Fishtales - that place hasn't been any good since the late 90's very early 2000's

Troutdale - Everytime I have had a steak there, it has been fantastic. Downside is the price.

Would love to see a great Grill/Bar/Wing Joint similar to BWW come into the area. Where they have about 50 beers on tap and are known for their appetizers, wings, sandwiches, etc......

Guess I am blessed to have every restaurant imaginable right here . On the downside , I eat out too much .

I ate at Mi Finca when we work was located behind Dairy Queen. I never was impressed. I never had a good meal at Mosbys myself. Always heard good things about their seafood buffet when it was up and going. Nutz is okay, not great IMO either. Renos has always been hit or miss for me. Monterrays, bleh. Fishtales greatest asset is their hushpuppies and chicken fingers. Their actual seafood isn't great. I haven't ate at Asia Cafe yet or Romanos because of mixed reviews and don't have the time too often.

Fishtales was great 10 years ago. Then they started burning everything they fried and stopped putting honey mustard in bottles on the tables.

Once that happened, I stopped eating there. We got a couple of trays of chicken and puppies for the press box a couple of years ago, it wasn't bad. Chicken was pretty dry though.

When Philip left it was the death of Mosbys. I wish to god shannons would come back!!!!

Is Phillip the guy that has the Tavern on Main now??

IMO yamatos is the best thing we have going around here. surprised nobody even mentioned it, i love it. decently healthy if you dont destroy it with the shrimp sauce. :) as far as everything else i tend to agree with the majority, nothing really stands out around here anymore.

The last 2 times we ate at Renos, it was really good. Nutz is a good hamburger joint. Monterrey is better than Little Mexico in my opinion. Quit being so negative Bob. HAAAAAAAA

On the bright side I noticed footers poured beside Sonic yesterday that looked awfully similar to a Pal's shape.

What we need here is an Oliverio's.

As far as the one's we currently have I tend to agree with Bob on most. Except for Mi Finca and Asia Cafe never had any problems at either place. Rocky I also like Yamato's haven't been there in a while but every time I've been have liked it.

The Nuts hype is all self hype by them when the Coalfield does the BOTB thing. Reno's is consistently bad when I go there so at they they have the consistent part down. One palce I alwasy forget about but I think the have the best supreme pizza around is Roma's. A BWW would be killer.

I like Yamamato's alright. The only issue it seems to me is that maybe the cooktop isn't cleaned well or something. All the meats seemed to merge together in taste. Its not bad though.

I felt the same way for a long time, but a change in leadership there has helped. The food was really good last time I went, service was pretty good as long as you don't go at peak times, drinks were great. If you've never tried their ribs, do so. I got them a couple of weeks ago and they were GREAT. Get the dry rub and get their sauce on the side.

Agreed 10000000% here. I've never gotten the love affair some people have w/that place. It's nowhere near as good as it's talked up to be.

Agreed on all of that too. However, you've missed out if you never tried their beer battered chicken & shrimp. VERY good. That's the best thing I ever got at Mosby's, aside from the cajun shrimp appetizer that they took off the menu quite a while ago.

Cosign. A place like that or like the aforementioned Golden Corral/Ryans would rake in the money around here. BWW or Wild Wing Cafe would be fargin awesome.

Don't eat Asian style rice, that is why I don't frequent Yamato's and when I go to Asia House, I don't get rice there. Had way too much rice while on the Arabian peninsula during Desert Shield/Storm. It is a "texture" thing.

On the other hand, speaking of Fish Tales, I have to agree that place sucks t i t s on a boar hog. They are totally useless.

i just dont see how in the hell people can eat that dried out chili and like it. they are supposed to have the best hot dogs or whatever and i honestly thought the texture was sandpaperish with some grease thrown on.

yeah, Snack Shack kills Nuts hotdogs

I agree with the 2 previous posts

Robo's has the best hotdogs in my opinion.

My favorite hot dog joint is Pioneer Grill in Lebanon.

Asia Cafe--love it. Only problems I've ever had with it were minor.

Fish Tales--never cared too much for them in the first place.

Sonic--don't like the one in Norton.

Little Mexico in BSG--one of my favorites.

Reno's--they hadn't been too bad the past few times I went.

Romano's--never had a problem.

Yamato's--they're not so bad.

I avoid the Burger King in BSG.

Of course I don't whine about how crappy a restaurant is based on just one experience. Nor do I throw a fuss over it when they put the pickles on the wrong side of the sandwich. Honestly, there are too many people who do that. Any restaurant, good or bad, can have crappy service on any given day. That's why you don't simply avoid a restaurant after only one incident. I don't avoid them unless the service is consistently bad.

The best hot dogs come from my kitchen. This is a good close second though. Those suckers are awesome. David and his people do a good job with all their food.

That sucks, I used to love Mosby's until they changed ownership, it was really the only place close that had a decent steak.

I'm with Bob, there is no restaurant around here worth two ****s.

Reno's is terrible, I doubt I will ever go back.
Applebees' isnt any better, Im not a huge Applebees fan in the first place, dont like their seasonings.

Fishtales is still good, I like it very well. I always ask them for plenty of honey mustard in the little cups so I can take some home. They have the best sauces around here, bar none.

Probably two of my favorites in the area. My family ate at the LM in BSG last night. Their food and overall service just seems way better than the other LM and Monterrey. Outside of not having enough waiters/waitresses when I'm there, Romano's has always been great.
