VINTAGE ELECTRO VOICE PATRICIAN 800 SPEAKER - eBay (item 230474173308 end time May-22-10 18:32:42 PDT)
Never seen one of these monsters comes with a 30" woofer 4-way system.
Frequency Response 15 hz to 23Khz. Does anybody know anything about this system ??
Serious monster.
Would rather have the dollar amount in Altec or JBL though.
Was never a fan of the big EV woofer in any incarnation.
I never heard the EV 30" woofers they don't sound good ?Quote:

* AB I think you are in the area - there were a few of the EV's floating (no pun) around on CL a few months back... I can see if I can dig up email add's if interested... do not recall exactly, but IIRC at least one, or one set had damage. The other set, wanted multi-thousands.
The Hartley woofer...22-24inches in a horn loaded sub-woofer is the best big woofer I ever done heard....
I think that can be partly due to the sheer size as a 30" woofer would need a very LARGE enclosure, and not many people or wives would want a 20-30 cu.ft. boxes in their living room.:D Thankfully I don't have that problem.:coffeedrinker:Quote:

I must admit I liked the T350 better because they could be crossed over at 3500Hz, whereas the 077s was 7000.
From what I can remember the T350 beat the JBL 076 ring radiator hands down, nothing flat. But it was quite comparable to the 077, but the price difference is what swung it for me at that time.

OG, Thanks for the info, I've been looking for a set of those, the T350's Steve Mac said they were very sweet sounding with like a 511E/288 combo which I haven't had the pleasure of hearing yet,so I've been trying to pick up a pair but at $700/pair I had to sit on the sidelines for abit. A friend has one of those 30" EV's in large inf baf. It's driven by its own pro pwr amp/ electronic x'over.
It has unique authority and ease reproducing the lowest organ pedal notes - very impressive. Its subsonic (16hz) resonance and large cone area make a world of difference.
A must have for serious organ reproduction - in fact that's what EV had in mind for these.

The 2x18" per side rig we had in Dallas was killer for pipe organ. They, too, had a rise at 16Hz.
I really like good bass in my music nowadays. 16 hz plenty low, it is that rumbling kinda tone.That you feel but can't quite hear.:D
It's hard for me to imagine any woofer doing justice reproducing the true bowel-rattling of a real pipe organ. That's one of those "you had to be there" kinda things. ;)Quote:

I've never experienced a 64' pipe stopped or open, but i have felt properly winded 32' pedal bombard pipes. It's something a person with any level of audio interest doesn't soon forget, and for some is probably the point at which a lifelong quest to reproduce what they've heard will begin.
I think the old Joe Louis Arena in Chicago had a mean pipe organ 50 years old I don't know if they moved it to the new arena.

From an engineering point of view the EV 30" does'nt make any sense. What is the SPL of that speaker ? and it's frequency response?
With a 5" inch voice coil it's not proportional to it's size.
The Altec self powered subwoofer 8182 introduced in 1983 was the first true 20 HZ reproducer. THX was just beginning. Then THX waited untill 1989 to approve a the 8184
sub .
The T-350 and the later ST-350 (as used in the Sentry III and IV) are not the same driver with different horns. The T-350 used a much bigger magnet; the ST-350 used the smaller magnet of the T-35.
