F. Lundsford: ????? A strong opponent of consolidation for years many are now afraid Lundsford will vote in favor of this.

What happens in the event of a split vote?
Tie vote means no.
SO a Yes vote means that they go with the 3 schools in one deal.
What does a No vote mean (StPaul/Coeburn, Pound/Wise, Appy/PV?) or (New study?)

Even though I think it is somewhat crazy to have three schools in one it could be smart too. It could be quickly changed into one school in the event of more schools consolodating and becoming AAA in the future. Not very likely but it could happen.
Haven't got the funds for this either. That is what got rid of Basham- he had 50 million in Jan one year and by June he needed to close Appy to save ONE mill. Wait till spring and the funding runs out- then the state can step in and raise our taxes to whatever they need to be , we will get 3 new schools then. :D And we could have just waited for this point and done just as well without the whole school board.Quote:

The school board members were elected to do a job. When they try to do their job, people want them fired or have a general recall. Consolidation is going to happen in Wise and Dickenson counties. Rivers countered that while those elected did run in favor of consolidation, none ran on a three-schools-on-one-site platform. Kilgore reminded Rivers the Board of Supervisors failed to adequately fund three new schools on separate sites, a point echoed by Adkins.
Meador said her district is ?at least 100 to one? opposed to the school division?s three-in-one plan...
So, I still think anything fair will get the majority of the people in support. It is the fact that we don't have that kind of money. I would rather pay the taxes and put the 3 new schools in.
So does the 3 new schools at three new location still have legs or are we looking at Appy, Pound and St Paul being absorbed in 2011?
Appy, Pound, and St. Paul will be absorbed. Rumor is now that they will do it this fall now that the BOS has voted the way they did.
I do not belive that they will (or can) make the moves to do this by this fall IMHO it will be scheduled for 2011 giving the BOS more time to find Money for the 3 new school planQuote:

Best I recall, those trailers were about 500,000 of what little was going to be spent . They were still "to be bought" so we don't have the cash for them, either.:D These two board aren't anywhere near as good as the avg "ole miner's wife" when it comes to buying what we need and can afford. :DCoruse , most of the mama's of the families I'm talking about, didn't have the luxury of time .
If those schools are to be absorbed will they rename the schools that are absorbing them? It would seem only fair and it's gotta happen sooner or later with consolidation.
According to Perry, they will not be renaming the schools.

What would have been fair to the kids would have been for the adults to have quite fighting long enough to fund some new schools.

Wise county is not like D i c k enson county. We have too much politics and not enough Ralph Stanley.
From all the talk going on around the three schools that are going to be closed, I would say roughly 70% of the kids will either be going to Norton, Dickenson, Lee, or Russel county if the schools are not renamed.
and i hate to say it but that is absolutely ridiculous. all of this should have been settled long ago. There is a lot more to your children's education than just Dawg pride, or Viking pride, people talking about these huge schools that cause so many problems arent thinking about some of the other factors that could help their children in the long run.Quote:

I know exactly where the money for D i c k enson county is coming from, so I do know a little something about what is going on there. You, along with the rest of everybody in southwest virginia know what a mess it is in Wise county with the politics. The only reason, and I say this twice, the only reason J.H. Rivers "flip flopped" on his stance on consolidation was because BSG was going to get left out of getting a school. His wife then flip flopped on her support of this also. Come on now, how many of us get a good laugh out of watching her at the SB meetings. The woman has no clue as to what is happening. On Monday, she almost single handedly torpedoed AES's new gym with her antics. And I must say, Rocky Cantrell must have had an epiphane(sp) when he gave his suggestion. He never has time to read his packet. He only got voted in because Barry Nelson didn't run for re-election. All-in-all, he has no clue either. Ted Thompson, don't even get me started on him, I know too much from my old days growing up in Derby, the same place he grew up. I know him well. Bates and Mullins seem to be there for the children along with Hutchinson. Perry and Kilgore, they both are in it for the glory of it, nothing more.
Now, look at the BOS. Luntsford will always vote what his constituents want, Shortt showed me two weeks ago that he is a chicken and caves in to strong arm tactics, Kilgore, Meador, Atkins, and Tate all have the county's interest in mind. Robbins and Rivers are always trying to "grandstand" the meetings with their bull. Neither one of them care diddly about the county. Just look at their voting record.:mooning:

We are not in a flood plain. The story is the D-county schools have been waiting in line since the 70s. The Grundy project was finished first. While at one time I thought there might be some sources for funding, I don't see any now. Wise is just getting by on the cash they have, after the cuts.Quote:
