Starts tomorrow!!

Anyone else this excited?

Tomorrow we have:
South Africa v. Mexico - 9:35am
Uruguay v. France - 2:30pm

Who do you have going all the way?
I want to pick Spain now that they have Torres is healthy again. The man scored a goal in his first 10 minutes on the field, so things are looking good for them.

England looks like they can put up a good fight as well even though their captain went down in training. Though, captains don't really matter for ****, and Ferdinand barely got selected for the team anyway. I think they will be alright as long as Rooney stays healthy. I wish they would have brought more of the younger guys like David Bentley, Darren Bent, and Walcott, but I still think they have a chance of going all the way.

Any team with Lionel Messi poses a huge threat, so watch out for Argentina, but that should go without saying anyway.

But when it comes down to it, I'm going with Brazil. That team always plays with a passion like no other. Dunga is trying to get them to play a bit more defensively, and with Julio Cesar, Maicon, Dani Alves, Kaka, Luis Fabian, and Ramires I look for a gritty match everytime they are scheduled.

I share your sentiment with Brazil

Brazil will be tough to beat. Spain generally does something to shoot themselvses in the foot in crunch time. If Gooch was 100% I would like the US's chances better. England will make it to the round of 16 and be put out. Their defense is suspect.

The single greatest sporting event starts today!!!!

S. Africa almost got off to a great start by upsetting Mexico. Ends up in a 1-1 tie though.

Mexico got robbed, but it's okay. Still a pretty good game. Mexico looked to take control in the first half, but S.A. came out hot the second half. Still have another game to go! God, I love this.

From what I read if anyone got robbed it was SA on what should have been a penalty kick early in the 2nd half, and another questionable offsides I believe it was.

Wild goal for the US. I'll take it though.

You know it has to be utterly demoralizing for Robert Green.

I honestly feel horrible for him. I couldn't imagine effing up that badly on this kind of stage.

I don't feel bad for him at all, on this stage, he shouldn't be trying to flag down the ball.

I dont feel bad either. He ****ed up, and he paid the price for it.

but a 1-1 draw with England is effectively a win for us. If we hold serve, we will advance. If we score more goals than Englad, we get the top seed 1C and get to avoid Germany, who may have hte best team.

Brazil and North Korea still tied at 0 in the first half.

Drogba played today as well, got in late. FIFA will let him use his cast.

Im surprised Brazil didn't jump all over NK. I dont necessarily think Germany is that much better than everyone else so far. The advantage they have is that their league doesnt not have a sponsor, so they started playing with the Jubalani ball earlier than other teams and are more accustomed to it. The US does have a great chance of being the 1 seed though from the group just because of Tim Howard IMO. They just need to score as many goals as the UK because the UK will probably give up more goals IMO. And hope no one gets hurt against Algeria and their dirty bunch.

The New Zealand/Slovakia match was a good one to watch today as well.

That 2nd goal is one of the reasons why I think Brazil will win this WC. What a pass/awesome execution.

Robinho put that ball in PERFECTLY. Could not have had a better pass.

They started slow, but they got two goals in 10 minutes. BUT.... they have not looked great the whole match against one of, if not the worst team in the WC.

I don't think Germany is head and shoulders above anybody, they just looked great in their first game albeit against a terrible team, the Aussies are terrible. But they have great chemistry and tons of talent everywhere on the field.

Howard is healthy they say, hopefully 100%. Without him, we do not make it out of the Group stage IMO, England would have beaten us 4-1 or 5-1 without Howard. Algeria is dirty dirty dirty. They commit all kinds of dirty fouls. We have to keep our ankles clean, they will try and kick them. But they suck, so we should be able to get a lead and play defense and not be so aggresive and take that chance.

We get to see Spain tomorrow, we will see how La Furia de Roja plays.

I agree with you on Germany. Everybody is still buzzing about the 4-0 waltz over the Aussies,but the Americans handled the Aussies with ease just over a week ago as well. I believe Howard will be ready to roll Friday (gotta force myself to stay awake after working all night to watch USA-Slovenia-no such luck having a 2:00 start lol)

Another positive for the US is that every game they have in this round gives them the optimal rest over their opponent. A nice luxury to have IMO.

I know. That's why I said no such luck with a 2 start. Were it at 2,I could get some shuteye,but if I drag in at 7am and sleep 3 hrs,I feel worse,so i'll have to stay up,and crash after.

I need to see one more game from Brasil to see what they're going to do in this years World Cup. The next team games against Cote d'Ivoire and Portugal should be dandies IMO. They still got 3 points as expected from the game, but seem to be stifled a bit by PRK's defense. Alot of pressure on Dunga because of his style of play with this Brasilian team. More will be disappointed by this result than those that were pleased with it. I, myself, expected a 4-0 Brasil win. Hats off to the North Koreans for hanging in there.

Guess that huge win over mighty Algeria (rolls eyes) has upped their confidence. Hope he and his mates can deal with the letdown,because the Yanks are going to get this one.;)

On a crazy mess of a playafter the main volley, the Swiss takes a 1-0 lead on Spain and blood has been brought by a cleat to the head of a Spanish player.

The Swiss played remarkable.

Very smart game by them. Great goaltending and the packed the middle tight with the defenders and midfielders and made Spain work the ball on the outside. Spain always seems to have a way of choking so maybe they got it out of their system early in this Cup.

IMO the Slovenia game is bigger than the England game. We need 3 points out of this game.

Realistically, how bad should we beat Slovenia? Also, what is our schedule after the Slovenia game?

The US are ranked 14th and Slovenia is ranked 25th according to the FIFA world football rankings. IMO we ahould win either 2-0 or 2-1. Either way we need this win and the 3 points. After Friday we don't play again until next wednesday against #30th ranked Algeria.

Argentina played as they should today taking a 4-1 win over S. Korea. Nigeria has just made things tougher on themselves. After taking a 1-0 lead on a great free kick, Kaita was red carded for extracirricular activity on a ball out of bounds. Greece scores just before half to lock it up 1-1. That extra man advantage seems to be playing huge for Greece.

Greece with a score to make it 2-1. Group B should end up being determined by goal differential now unless Nigeria makes a comeback.

Mexico missed a great opportunity early in the game just now to go up on France.

Germany-Serbia now. US-Slovenia at 10 (trying my best to stay awake)

Maybe some of the great Germany talk will quieten down now and being beaten by Serbia 1-0. They may not even make it to the next round now. It may come down to goal differential and Ghana and Serbia both now want to beat the Aussies like a drum.

Bradley pulls Clark for Torres to start todays game. That could be positive offensive move, and Clark gave up the big gaff defensively against UK.

Typical US. Gives up an early goal easily.

Can't believe I woke up early for this ****ty play, they are startign to get it going a bit finally. That yellow on Findley was ****ing ridiculous.
