Twilight ruining marriages?
With fans turning the area outside the Nokia theater in L.A. into a tent city in advance of the "Eclipse" premiere, the Los Angeles Times examines the phenomenon of fans whose lives are upended by their fierce love of the vampire books and movies. The Times found women who have nearly lost their marriages by neglecting their husbands in favor of "Twilight" fan sites, blogs, and message boards. One woman gushes that she's seen the movies "over 300 times."
So-called "Twilight addiction" proliferates on the Internet, where a fan can take any of hundreds of quizzes to self-diagnose their condition, and websites sell hand-made crystal-encrusted T-shirts that say "Twilight Mom." Some "Twi-Moms" as they're known, have even argued that their love of Edward and/or Jacob has actually improved their marriages.
"If there is a chemical that's released when you're falling in love, your brain has it when you're reading or watching 'Twilight.' You get that utopic feeling of first love and you want to experience it over and over again," one 50-year-old former engineer who has experienced her own "Twilight"-related marital problems, said. The names "Bella," "Jacob," and "Cullen" are climbing the popular-baby-name lists every year as more and more parents make their "Twilight" fandom a permanent part of their families.
While the phenomenon of life-altering "Twilight" obsession is mostly confined to women and girls, the Internet reveals that even some men are falling victim to the vampire love triangle. "How do I go about combating my husband's 'Twilight' addiction?" reads one desperate plea on Yahoo! Answers. "He even has a Team Edward sparkly shirt."
It seems that the super-fandom known as "Twilight addiction" always reaches a fever pitch, at least in the media, right before a new movie in the franchise is released. With "New Moon", we learned that "Twilight" mania wasn't just for teen girls, but their moms as well. With "Eclipse," we're seeing grown-up married men afflicted by the obsession. With two more movies to go ("Breaking Dawn" parts one and two, in 2011 and 2012), could the entire U.S. population eventually succumb to this crippling disease?

Re: Twilight ruining marriages?
It's one thing to really like the movies but this is just stupidity. My fiance really likes the movies. So well in fact we'll be at Norton Cinema watching the first 2 flicks of the series starting at 7 and the midnight showing of Eclipse. But she doesn't wear a "team" shirt or neglect me over it. People need to get with reality and realize it's just entertainment. No more. No less.

Re: Twilight ruining marriages?
I enjoy the movies and have read the books several times BUT I love my husband and don't neglect my son or him over a movie..... That is insane! Some people take fiction and try to make it their reality because their reality isn't that great, maybe these marriages were lacking something in the first place.

Re: Twilight ruining marriages?
I hate everything about that movie and I've never seen one of them. It's so blown up and hyped that it was ruined for me from ever watching at least one of them, which I was open to watching it when it first come out. Along with that, the previews and the cast, looks like soap-opera-esque acting and just looks atrocious. At first it seemed like a chick-flick I'd end up watching with a gf, now I'd dump them before they made me sit through that garbage.

Tell me what movie hasn't been hyped up? That is the point of making a movie so that you make money, in order to make money you have to advertise.........

Re: Twilight ruining marriages?
Very rarely do people tattoo movies on their self and wear t-shirts around. It's a teenage girl fad that has blown so far up I could never stomach a second of it, it wouldn't be as bad if it didn't look so awful.
-
Re: Twilight ruining marriages?
I have seen grown men and women wear Star Wars shirts, Spongebob shirts, South Park shirts, Family Guy shirts, Iron Man shirts, Simpson shirts, Batman and Spiderman shirts, the list goes on.... The other day I even seen a guy with a tattoo of the Cobra emblem from GI Joe. People get stupid tattoos all the time of movie and show related stuff. I'm not saying it isn't stupid but it happens.

Re: Twilight ruining marriages?
R13, at some point you just realize the hype the rest of the world engages in doesn't matter. I didn't want anything to do with this shiz at first. Now look at me. I'm in the theater as I type this. We just saw the double feature and are waiting on Eclipse. You can either go thru life thoroughly open minded and enjoy things cause YOU WANT TO or you can allow everything to continue to sway your feelings. Your call dude.

Re: Twilight ruining marriages?
SBG let me know how it is! We are going on Thursday for the matinee so we hopefully don't get slammed by a big crowd.
-
Re: Twilight ruining marriages?
Most of those are shows, comic book characters and ones like Star Wars are all-time classics...Twilight isn't or will never be some cult classic.
And how about I just not like it because I could find better acting on Monday Night Raw? Or that its about vampires? It already wasn't looking good, people running it into the ground has just added to it.
-
Re: Twilight ruining marriages?
And how about I like it because I just do. It is pathetic that you have nothing better to do than sit around criticizing all the things that you don't happen to relate to. This is the United States just in case you've forgotten--not everything is perfect we are one of the most media influenced nations, given that most of it is nothing but garbage, we all still feed into it. Just by typing on here about Twilight now you are giving it publicity, and any publicity is good publicity. Congratulations!!! You have fed into your apparently most hated fad.

um, you're completely wrong.... movie tattoos are pretty common, even the favorite movie t-shirts.
I'm huge into ink, and I've seen everything, and tons of people get movie icons put on them. That's nothing new.
But going to ruining marriages.. I've seen it first hand around here... a woman throws a fit bc her husband can't be off work in time to make these triple feature... what a crock of ****

Re: Twilight ruining marriages?
What are you talking about? This is exactly what I'm talking about, taking something like that as a slight at you or something. Like it for whatever reason you want, I don't care, I never said anyone shouldn't like it or that they were wrong for doing so. I never said I was some famous movie critic, it was my opinion of it and I think it's garbage. You like it, that's cool too, neither of us is wrong for it.

Sure. And yes, there has been a lot, but for older classic movies with cult characters..not generally this series that will be forgotten about in 5 years by most of it's fanbase.

The movie was great. I highly enjoyed such good entertainment. I could've done with more battle scenes. And the kind of uneasy alliances are a nice turn. Overall it was great, though. Especially fun was watching all 3 movies in the same night. And that was helped by the theater's "Free Large Refill" offer. I think I had 5 large mello yellos through the whole triple feature. My bladder definitely got a workout. LoL
R13, I can respect the decision not to like something because you genuinely don't like it. But you have already made it clear that media hype has played more than a large role in your disapproval.
Then there's the fact you think the acting is bad. That's expecting too much and being too critical. The whole point of movies and television is to be entertained. If you're not entertained because it's just not something you like...fine. But going in with the whole standpoint that this should be something filled with the best acting possible is being unrealistic.
Actors are paid to do a job. Far too much in my opinion, but I digress. And it's part of their job to act according to the script and the director's interpretation. They're just following orders. Like a quarterback who runs the play the coach calls that loses the game for them. Don't blame the QB if he was doing his best with what he was told to do.
And it's not just you. Far from it. The entire world is filled with people who expect too much from entertainment. Go in with an open mind and give it a chance to entertain you. See it for what it is and you stand a chance to enjoy many more movies.
But above all else do what you WANT to do because it's your CHOICE to do so. I can always agree with and respect that.

Re: Twilight ruining marriages?
somebody needs to drop their man balls, and realize that vampires don't sparkle... come on SBG!!!
I'm kidding... I just wanted to be the opposition, and make a stand and not conform, but wait, by being one who doesn't conform to the ways of the media, aren't I being like the rest of those people? conforming to their ways!?!?!? oh my GOD! help me...
haha.. seriously, vampires DON't sparkle... but to each his own. I may actually sit down and watch the 1st two

True Blood pwns Sparkle-pires. That's the best vampire/werewolf/supernatural based set of stories out right now anywhere.

Re: Twilight ruining marriages?
Jesus ****, the part about vampires was that those movies generally suck to me. Never been interesting in any of them, any Dracula movie, Blade series, Queen of the ****ed etc. I've all hated and not interested in the Daybreakers one either. There's a fine line with vampire movies and zombie movies for that matter, most of them just come out looking terrible and laughable really.
And I didn't expect world class acting, but it comes off as soap opera worthy and pretty much a soap opera type of movie.
I have no idea where yall are getting the "because it's popular, I don't want to have anything to do with it", wow. When I say people run it into the ground, it's when they don't shut the **** up with it, talk like it's the greatest thing in the world, the t-shirts, the advertising just get's annoying as hell. It's like a song that's played to death on the radio, you hear it so much you get sick of it. How some of you have twisted it into some emo **** and it's a buck against society, I'll never get. It looks like a **** movie, that's been blown up beyond belief by every teenage girl in the country, that's why I don't like it.

Talk about not shutting up about it. LOL! I think you have talked more about it than anyone on here. You sure you dont have a big man crush on this series?

Re: Twilight ruining marriages?
You peeps and your "vampires don't sparkle" have to realize everything is open to interpretation. It's like fans that watch Star Wars or Star Trek and consider the other to be blasphemy. I love Trek but highly enjoy Wars, too. But they call your kind die hards for a reason and I can respect that.
-
Re: Twilight ruining marriages?
Just making an observation...
We just got a rant about how things get run into the ground, songs get played to death, and things get advertised to no end........from what I would call the biggest Lil' Wayne fan I know.
Just sayin.
-
Re: Twilight ruining marriages?
I'm not a radio-Wayne fan. Most of my favorite songs of his are from his mixtapes(or other songs on the studio albums) that never get radio play and those "fans" haven't even heard of.
In other news, just read where the Paranormal Activity 2 trailer has been pulled from some theaters because Eclipse fans were complaining it was too scary, just found that funny.

Re: Twilight ruining marriages?
Just came back from seeing it and I thought that it was a great movie. I'll probably watch it again but online this time.
Found this online though
Top 10 Biggest Opening Days - Photo Gallery on Yahoo! Movies
On Wednesday, masses of squealing Twi-hards piled into their local megaplexes to catch the latest installment of America's favorite sparkly vampire romance. "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" earned an impressive $68.5 million during its opening night, making it the biggest Wednesday premiere in the history of human civilization. In spite of that, "Eclipse" didn't quite manage to nab the mantel of the biggest opening night ever.

Re: Twilight ruining marriages?
I normally have three sites I go to to check but I haven't gotten a chance to yet so I don't know if they are on there or not. I do know that Grown Ups is on one of them though...
Some of the views on them aren't so great at times, you just gotta go thru them on some.
This one has it..
