Has anybody heard anything about him? Going from what I seen, heard, I thought he was going to be ok, although after hearing he had a concussion a few weeks earlier, he's probably done for the year even if he is ok. Gossip started and I would like to either confirm or shoot it down.
I had even heard (someone from Clintwood) he was possibly paralized, but today they said that they didn't think that was true. I just hope the young man is okay.

I know he had moved his hands, was blinking, talking and knew his name, age, year and all of that. I didn't see his legs move but someone else said they did, but I hate hearing the rumors of people who probably know nothing more than I do about what went on in the stands at the Skitterbug Hollow/Crabbypatty Creek matchup.
His feet were moving a little when it first happened but that could have been involuntary.Quote:

The higher the grade, the worse it is I believe. Handy reference for athletic injuries.
Concussion Grades
There is no standard classification system for concussions. Four of the leading researchers in head injuries maintain their own classification system. The symptoms of each degree of concussion are often very similar, and one can be confused when accessing a head injury.
Concussions can be divided into five grades, 0 thru 4. Grade 0 results when the head is struck or moved rapidly. It is characterized by a post injury headache and difficulty with concentration. The athlete may not notice any other symptoms. Grade 1 concussions occur in the same manner but the athlete may appear stunned or dazed. There is no loss of consciousness (LOC), and sensory difficulties clear in less than one minute. Grade 1 concussions are the typical “I got my bell rung” description from the athlete.
Grade 2 concussions are characterized by headache, cloudy senses lasting longer than one minute, and no LOC. The athlete may have other symptoms including, tinnitus, amnesia, irritability, confusion, or dizziness. One, all or none of these symptoms could be present.
Grade 3 concussions are characterized by LOC of less than one minute, the athlete will not be comatose, and exhibit the same symptoms as a grade 2 concussion. Grade 4 concussions are characterized by LOC of greater than one minute. The athlete will not be comatose, and will also exhibit the symptoms of the grade 2 and 3 concussions.
Thats pretty much what I thought Counts, although I had heard grade 3 but most were saying done for year.
That sucks, but better than alternatives.
if a kid has had two concussions already this year, he should be forced to sit out the rest of the year. i dont care if he is their star QB, he should be done.
with all the info we have now about how the head injuries and concussions are effecting football players, there is no reason to risk it in a kid this young.
I agree. People are just now realizing just how serious a concussion really is. Just look at Muhammad Ali. And John Mackey, former Baltimore Colt professional football player. He has Alzheimer's because of all the head injuries he suffered.Quote:

I'm always struck thinking of, was it Mike Webster from the Steelers or Jack Lambert? I forget at the moment but seeing a special on them and how they basically had become an invalid and incapable of doing much of anything.
That would have been Mike Webster, I googled him and he died in 1992. It stated that among other disabilities, he had dimentia, due to several concussions received during his career as a professional football player. Imagine, having such a diesease as that at 50. Really sad. It said his teenage son took care of him his last year of life with his wife divorcing him 6 months before his death.
So, all you young football players out there who think a "bang in the head" couldn't be serious, just read about Mr. Webster's life.
