What have you been up to?

So some of us are wandering back... so what's been going on since we were all together?

Dan and I are still making other people slightly ill with how gooey we are. [img]biggrin.gif[/img]

I've been working at a hotel owned by Michigan State University... and it's very strange. The upside is that I've only got one certifiable psychopath to deal with, as opposed to the half dozen at my last job. The downside is that everything seems to be about power... if you listen to these people, you'd actually think that everyone that works for MSU can fire everyone else that works for MSU. On the upside, I can start taking college classes for free in September, on the downside, I've actually had to instigate sexual harrassment proceedings (of the "hostile environment" sort, not the "quid pro quo" sort) for the first time in my life.

That's most of what's going on, ups and downs, some changes, some the same. How are y'all doing?

well, for starters, i've lost the ability to capitalize anything.

i'm still in school, still writing my novel and god willing, it will be done by the end of the year. classes are mostly interesting, and i've been turning gradually away from lit. classes towards art and science courses. suffering from literary burn-out.

i have an apartment right off campus where i have one fabulous roommate and two fish (a puffer named agnes nutter and a grouper named issac newton). to support this "living without parental support" status, i got a job at the library, helping to process and catalog new acquisitions. it's flexible, pays decently, and grants me internet access.

real life has played a really large part in dragging me away from here. i adopted a couple stray boys beginning of the school year and the three of us have been mostly attached at the hip since.

neither makes a good romantic interest.

and since we're on that subject, still single.

oh, and enra's alive, as well. she's working for amgen, taking college classes, and learning far more about theology than is probably good for her.

I am currently in retail hell. Sitting here contemplating my brokeness and poor planning in using my charge cards...

I have three or four jobs and no money. *insert lengthy whine here*

I have two or three trips planned this year. One to a Pittsburgh con that Terry Moore will be at. And the con even has a event for him, since it is the ten year anniversary of SIPness.

Another trip is planned to visit my Mom in CA. She is flying me out so I will be spending most of the time with her.

I'm a co-chair for a Dealer's Room at a anime convention in Newark, NJ. So I will be taking some time off to do that.

For all my whining, I am in relatively decent health. I have food to eat and a roof over my head. And two puddy tats that love me for better or worse. As long as I feed them at least, that is unconditional love isn't it? [img]wink.gif[/img]

I spend way too much time on geeky projects that I enjoy doing, but pay me no money, just adoration of fans.

Ah well, maybe someday fortune and fame will find me. Or at least fortune...

As most of you know, I'm taking some (mostly) online classes at a community college. The semester ends in May and then....what? Considering that I'm doing this half-heartedly to please other people, I imagine I'll be looking for employment in a few months. The wife has told me that if I don't continue this college thing, she'll say not a thing about it. Which I find hard to believe.

Have started writing again. (Yeah, still got that crazy idea about making it with the word.)

We're in the process of getting another van.

Still married. 11 years this April.

Hi. I'm still a retail manager who's not sure what he wants to do with himself.

I have no plans to travel this year (well, maybe one or two [img]wink.gif[/img] ) as I plan to shove as much money as I can into paying off my credit cards so I can finally move out of my mom's house, hopefully by early - mid next year.

I live in Italy, were I work teaching English as a foreign language. The pay per hour is good, but there aren't enough hours, so I have no money to speak of. Luckily, life in Italy's quite cheap, but only if you limit yourself to food, rent and bills. And even then, the bills are quite high.

I oscilate between wanting to give it another few years here and wanting to go back to the UK and get a job where I don't have to talk to anybody.

Apart from that, life is fine.

i'm living with an awesome anime addicted housemate in a cute little apartment this year, as there was no way in hell's creation that i was staying where i was last year. i'm almost done my third year of university, although this is proving to be a task because i think i've reached burnout. several counselling sessions and a prescription later, life is starting to be interesting again. i'm still behind in schoolwork, but i'm slowly catching up here and there. gah. i just want out right now. and i need to find a job for the summer.

i did my first musical theatre performance in january, playing the mayor's fainting wife Edna in Bye Bye Birdie. that was a blast and a half. i made and lost some good friends during that whole period, but that's life.

i also recently turned 21 (on feb 22, to be exact). so i'm now legal internationally. HAHAHA!! THE WORLD IS MINE!! *cough*

uhhh ... what else ...

oh yeah, i've thrown myself back into swing dancing, and i did an awesome workshop in feb, and i'm doing another one this weekend. i'm sorta getting better, and i love it, and it's so much fun. we had a mini road trip to montreal for a night to dance on the 1st of march. and this thursday we're doing a 50s/60s rock and roll theme night, including costumes. so i get to wear my poodle skirt from Birdie again. HAHAHA. i'm still deciding if i want to wear shorts underneath the skirt or just go with regular underwear. *cackle*

i think that's it. oh, and i pierced my navel to commemorate my 21st birthday while visiting a friend in Niagara. other than that, life's been rather meh-y.

Still working, same job, different role, now run the place, The money DOES NOT outweigh the extra hassle. How can 16 people all be unhappy in their jobs and moan at me in unison.
Trying for a job in Algeria, same company, no pressure, more money, 28 on 28 off so more time at home than I get now.
Off to Disneyland Paris with the kids again in October. Whoo Hoo...

Still work Part time at a local bar, been there 15 years now, some habits you just can't break.
Work too hard, sleep too little, but loving every minute of it.

I've been in a culinary program at our local community college, having gotten sick of jobs where I hate my work. This has killed my net access until this semester, when we are required to take a Microsoft Office class in labs with internet connections. I'll be disappearing in May or June, but I'll be back eventually.

Oh, and I'm working in the deli at Von's, a local branch of Safeway. It's something to bring in a little cash.

Hi, everybody! (HI DR. NICK!)

I'm really Jaxom 27 for any who don't know and haven't read the signature at the bottom of my post yet...

I'm still working in the hotel, though I just got back from interviewing at another property (still with the same company) but it's 20 minutes away from where I live, at best, compared to the 35+ I do now (two seasons here in Chicago: Winter and Construction...makes for creative driving at times...) The move would be a promotion of sorts, but I still don't know if that means more money or not...though I finally got last year's raise coming to me at the end of this month, so we'll see how that goes...

For anyone reading the other threads...yes I've found a onderful girl who puts up with me and only gives me half as much grief as I get from you all...heh...she's still in school (my old university actually) so she's in Ohio for a few more months and I'm still here...but she actually wanted to come to Chicago before we started dating, so bonus for me...so far so good on that front...just got back today from a brief visit actually...

Other than that, nothing else really new...the library has grown by leaps and bounds...damn the History Book Club and the SF Book Club and Borders...ah well...

Things are going well for me.

In June I will have been at the same computer techie job for 2 years. In this economy I'm very grateful to have a good job with good bosses.

STILL working on "She Thinks" (now titled "Voices and Trees"). This month equals 3 years total work on it, but, yes, it's actually almost finished. I'll be entering it in a contest by the end of this month (and going to the related writer's conference in May to find out who won). I will also be trying to acquire an agent, as I think that's the only way for a nobody to get their foot in the door these days. When I'm done with this book, I'll take a break and write some shorts, then start on the next book (which is actually already started). One day, God willing, I might be able to turn this writing stuff into a career.

Life with gf is incredible/wonderful/gooey. We're at the 2 1/2 year mark and things are grand. I'm a lucky woman.

Flag football: The majority of my team left late last year over some stupid tiff at a tournament. So, this year was one of rebuilding and we finished in 3rd place (lost in semi-finals by one freaking point). We have a tournament coming up at the end of March and we're looking to do well. I received a sportsmanship award at the annual league party, which was a real honor.

My family is doing well and my health is good. So, I'm happy and feeling blessed.

Work: changed jobs last may, I'm now working at the Free University's peronel department's archive. Which I sort of enjoy and which leaves me with a bit of month at the end of my money. Every month.

Personal: Not much spectacular. Still single, but with possibilities. For a day to day play list you can check my live journal. RL is picking up though and I'm still a happy camper. And still reading SiP.

I haven't posted anything for longer than ages, and was a little perturbed to find my username seems to have gone the way of the fairies. That said, Hostboard seems to have changed almost beyond recognition, so this maybe isn't suprising.

Um, I've recently jacked in my awful insurance job (with no internet access), and am now spending all the money I've ever owned on a life-affirming trip around Europe. I write this from a coffee shop in Amsterdam, which makes a nice change at 3pm from staring at my desk and reading about traffic accidents.

I've missed the board, as I don't get much of an opportunity to visit nowadays, and am very confused by the new names, and changed names, and the like. How the devil are you all, then? Any Earth-shattering online events I should know about?

I must admit I only vaguely remember you myself, (you are the one that posted that lovely SiP timeline, aren't you?) but it's always good to hear from a straggler who stumbles back in. Hi David, I remember you well. Both here and at SIP.

Where to start. I had my last chemo treatment Febuary 2 2002. About a month later I took my mother and her new husband on a trip to Ireland. I stayed on for another month bumming around Europe in my wheelchair or "speedy" as I call her. After returning went through six months of PT to get the use of my legs back (again). Returned to work( My first day back ) to much Hurrrahs and Hey Nelly, Nellys.

During this time I had discovered online gaming and settled on a game called Asheron's Call as my "game" home.

4 Months ago I became involved with Maria, my neighbor, who had just moved in.

I am still doing web work as well as running a server for several friends.

So- Lucky y'alls. I'm gonna let you know what I've been up to and why I only post here once in a blue moon. (And someday- I'll let you know why a California girl says y'all...)

I'm back in school- in so many more ways than one. This is my second year teaching highschoolers to read and write. It's my first year in a teacher credentialling program. My weeknights are taken up with 7-9 classes. My saturdays are taken up with 9-3 classes. At all other times I grade papers. Sometimes I stop to eat and sleep.

Socializing has become a rare thing for me. I maybe do it once a month. Luckily, my gf lives across the country. She's doing law school in the deep south- quite a trip. Anyhow, that makes for a convenient long distance relationship, 'cus I ain't got time for nothin' else.

In sum, life is both challenging and rewarding.

(ALthough, I have to admit I miss the days I used to spend in an office cubicle, pretending to work, posting and chatting with you guys. [img]smile.gif[/img] )

I've been trying to finish up my studies at SJSU so I can graduate in May. Started seeing a new GF around the beginning of the year. Got laid off from my co-op job and have been sort of looking for work.

Killed my computer at home, so I've been posting from school. :)

I'm ready to kill my home computer- it's a slow as... that sticky syrupy liquid that I can't spell.

Today I got my first migraine. It was unbelievable- I was seeing stars. Got to stay home from work though- for what it was worth. I stopped in to drop off lesson plans and looked so bad that I apparently scared the kids.

So this is stress.

wow, i just realized I haven't had a migraine in almost a year now. Go me! hope you feel better soon Lulu.

I'm back from a semester overseas and I've finally gotten used to not hearing italian and to seeing fashions that don't make my eyes hurt tooo much. Still studying theology at the university, though i'm thinking of making that a minor and making German my major. depends on which department lets me do things MY way.
My car is drafty (it got broken into first day back at school) and I haven't reconnected my stereo yet. Its amazing, i never realized car motors had so much personality. My roomate gained a second cat while i was gone, and the two of them are adept trouble makers. I'm taking a German film class which is very interesting.
I finally gained enough weight to leave 'scary' category and enter 'almost normal', still eating like a horse, and still have no spare cash for fun. (damn stomach)
