Altec on Craigslist

I already have some 604's but I am wondering about the 14's. This is Canadian $ at around 0.95 USD. any thoughts?

Neither of those are good prices...if you could pick up in Ohio I know a seller with a decent pair of 14's for 700..US vs that 950. He might skid and ship.


I have seen them much lower not long ago...

1200 is a decent price for 604's. 1900 US is beyond top dollar IMHO but...

OTOH you have to add in the factory boxes. Even at that I doubt I would go higher that 1600 US.

Before I paid 1900 I'd buy Bill's stuff.

Thanks OG, that helps me not buy them. My cup runneth over so what I needed to hear was that it was too much. Two sets of 604-8H's are not even at the top of the list for projects right now, can you believe it?

I like the looks of the 886A's and I will contact him. The 6058g's look to be 4058g's and I already have lots of that sort of driver.

I don't think you'll be terribly excited about them. In essence they are to the 893 Corona what the Bolero(passive) is to the Madera(infinite baffle). They're a Corona with the addition of a passive vs the Corona's IB enclosure. Components will likely be all CTS made. Handsome well made cabinets with real walnut veneer.

Not bad speakers, i use Coronas in my paint, finish, stripping booth and they are great company and non fatiguing for that application, actually "sound great" is what visitors say. I'd expect the 886 to have a bit smoother, possibly more sensitive bass response.

I'll wager they're not gonna replace any of your current daily drivers though.
