I heard this weekend that Burton was going to put in for a move to the cumberland district and that Lee might join the LPD......I am not sure if this has any contingency on the Wise consoladation efforts......Does anyone know anything about any of this?
You may remember TW wants to go to the LPD as well. If JIB came to the CD, someone would have to move out I would think if SP continues to field teams since they will stay open.
I rember the TW thing from before but there was no menten of them one way or the other so no clue there.....the Burton thing took me a bit by supriseQuote:

I've heard it from numerous people over the last month. I've stated on here before that when we consolidate I want us to leave the LPD and join the CMD, I hope that's the case. We need to be proactive, if not JIB and CW will leave us high and dry.

I've been told we will have to do something because as of last week, the JJK/Pound consolidatd school say's there not going to play us and at some point Coeburn was thinking of dropping us. Kelly dropping us that came from their principals mouth, not BI, Yet he forget's who is going to want to play them, they already can't get any games for next year. Rye cove and Thomas Walker haven't said yes and PH dropped them so that 3 games they have to find, plus add JIB, Appy and Pound wow?
Evidently some of the county principals must have a plan in place as far as the district and not told Norton or Clintwood, maybe it is fold it and leave us two hanging in the wind which very well could be they vote to dissolve the LPD and those 2 go to the Clinch, leave the DC combined to join the BD and us the CD.
Plus I hear parents of 7-8 kids from Pound and 15 or so from Appalachia have called the school left messages for Coach Adams they want to talk about when they can enroll here, because they don't care if they shut down end of ths year they are tired of their kids getting jerked around
Yep Coeburn told CW that they were dropping them too I know Grundy is looking for games so I hope that we can pick them up other than that CW has had trouble picking up any local teams so loseing Pound and Appy will hurt (mayby CW and Burton can schedule 2 games next season :)
I dunno if we can handel 3 games against you guys. Did Shelby and Happy both drop you?

Somebody smarter than me figured this out a long time ago, take your four Reg D districts put all D1 school in two and all D2 schools in the other two, I have also heard rumors of Graham and Tazewell coming to A ball (rumor came from Tazewell Co.). If all this occurs GC and Lee might join a New "LPD" with the consolidated schools and CW. It is too soon to speculate though it seems like consol. plan changes every two days in Wise. Graham is already coming to single A next year. They are going to region C. Tazwell I believe has to many students to drop.

I actually don't think there will be a huge delay with ****enson County going ahead if the money is there. It's been something they have been very forward-thinking on (for once in the county) and there is a very limited group here who doesn't see that it has to happen. I would have always thought the 2 schools could be ok, and it probably could, but it seems that the harder deal is closing Ervinton, instead of closing all. I get that I guess, it sucks for one to get hosed while others don't. We'll see I guess, I feel like it will happen, and if it doesn't, whomever is in charge of the decisions here needs to be strung up. ****enson will not be able to afford a new school anytime that I can see if they have to pay for it, but with nearly all the cost being money they get from elsewhere, it's really one of those options they have to take. I think the ideas of preparing for the future of the LPD is logical, especially since it appears that some in Wise are just trying to stall things.
Thanks for the Graham info. presheateit. I thank Tazewell is going to do what Lee did and appeal to VHSL because of travel.They are also in the start of renovations to stadium they are getting Turf and new weight room too.
Tazewell doesnt stand the chance that Lee did on that type of waiver. By the next cycle, two at most though, them and Richlands will be in a position to step down I do believe though.
Tazwell is already single A sized (2 Reagion B singale A schools are bigger NOW) to top that off Richlands is over the limit by only 18 kidsQuote:

There was a protest in Clintwood on consoladation and 20 folks showed up and strangly enough pointed to what Wise Co was doing as a shinning example of how the Boards need to handle consoladation in DC LOL
Surely there is a big land owner or coal company that owns 100's of acres of land in ****enson County that would donate the land to the school or sell for a small price vs going the eminent domain route.
I don't know the entire situation so I can't say much on it, is this just vacant land or are they trying to purchase peoples homes/land as well. Vacant land is a little different than when a dwelling is on site but if there is, I can see why some would be upset.
Where is the proposed site?
There is one thing for sure the LPD in 2-3 years isn't going to look the way it did 10 years ago, but everyone says change is good. Does anyone know if the VHSL is still considering reclassification the subject was brought up a Va. High principal says it was disscussed.

Exactly on the land owners, they have no real course of action other than take what the county is giving them now. From what I have heard they are giving them a very good deal and more they would get if they just went through the court.

I think the issue with the coal Companys is that they would not sigh over a release for surface damage that might be caused in the future for mineing that was done in the past and the DC Boards saw that as to big a risk to take....That beign said the last i heard was that 6 homes would be affected but some of it was nothing more than right of waysQuote:

Everyone needs to remember the new Single A system begins next year. This will be the last year for Regional Champs. The whole playoff system is alot different than what it is now.

People now complain about us (Region D) not winning the title game. Ten years from now they will complain about us never getting there. Sticking the Dogwood (Region B) with us really changes the scope. Hello Gretna, Altavista, William Campbell, Riverheads, and Buffalo Gap.
The split is now more fair.....It will be tougher to make the title game but once you det there (as a Div 1 team at least) you have a better shot at winningQuote:

VHSL-helper's 2009 playoffs using the 2010 proposal
so half of D-1 in the Region would have 1st rd games against Region B? I don't see the coaches or priniciples approving that plan because of the travel costs, the VHSL would lose a ton of money because you will have to have overnight stays. You think if TW makes it there gonna head out on Saturday monring for a game 1:30 kickoff at any of these William Campbell, Riverheads, or Buffalo Gap. I have been to each one of those schools to see games in the last 2 years and the shortest drive is 4hrs going 75 mph on I- 81. To get there by 11:30 from Norton on a bus you would have to leave at 6:30 including a breakfast stop add 90 min for TW.
If districts don't matter after this year what makes all this relevant, just put everybody in two districts and forget it (put D1 teams in one, D2 teams in the other) The playoffs aren't fair and prob. never will be as far as the split is concerned, the state ends at Roanoke anyway doesn't everyone know that. SW Va. schools are like the cousins you have to invite to the family reunion, you don't really like them but they are in your family.
