Appy was a HC win, too. It was their 50th. Not sure if that was 50 hc's or 50th for the school or what. They said it at the game but I can't remember what it was.
Appy came out quite flat in the 1st half and was lucky to be leading by 2. They did much better the 2nd half. Not sure if that was because they turned it up a notch or if StP started playing like StP. Whatever it was it resulted in a win for Appy.
the school opened around '24, so it mighta been the 50th HC win.
The school opened in 1960...so that's 50 years...
"The 1924 Wise County Football season saw Wise and Appalachia come into the picture. In their first game Appalachia defeated Wise 33-0."

Like I said, Appy opened in 1924.
But that should probably count toward their totals still as long as it was called Appalachia HS.
just so you know, appy opened in 1916-1917 as well.......... 1924 was the first year of the football team. i would assume 50 years of homecomings altogether. or they dont have old records, im not sure why it was done when it was. so like you said, if you are going to try and be a smartass at least know what you are talking about. you have a bad day or something? apparently you didnt read my post above yours.........? i didnt say it was their 50th was just stating facts in here.
yeah... sorry, mis-read there.
First, I thought... maybe 50th at Riggs. Then, maybe it WAS the 50th GAME for Appy.
Dad said he thinks the 4-lane across Shortt Gap between Grundy & Richlands opened in the mid 50's. With the way the roads were back then, most ppl. didn'r move far off, and drving more than 60 miles woulda taken a while, so maybe HC's took a while to catch on.
