3D coming to Norton Cinema?
I was told today that Norton Cinema is getting a 3D screen in the next few weeks. anyone else heard this?
-
Re: 3D coming to Norton Cinema?
This is true.
Got the info straight from the horse's mouth about a month ago, although I failed to ask what the expected timeline was.

Re: 3D coming to Norton Cinema?
They can invest in ****ty 3D, but not digital 2D screening?
Norton Cinema is pathetic.
-
Re: 3D coming to Norton Cinema?
Sounds neat. Will it be ready for Jackass? or are they just starting to work on it?
-
Re: 3D coming to Norton Cinema?
I would not go as far as saying norton cinema is pathetic. I mean you could be viewing films in old run down building in coeburn/wise that still have crappy picture and sound. At least the place is nice and the seats are comfortable. With the addition of a 3d screen im sure profit will increase and possibly the addition of some digital 2 screens. Im just glad our area is finally on the upward swing when it comes to food and entertainment (even if it is a movie theater). Also got to remember its more than we had ten years ago!

I dont care how comfortable my ass is if the picture sucks and the sound is horrible. Ive been to 2 movies down there (dark knight, and something else) Dark knight the screen was so dark you could barely see the movie, the other one the sound was awful. A polished turd is still a turd.

Re: 3D coming to Norton Cinema?
The theater we have in Lewisburg is like Wise's old theather with seating and such and only plays 2 movies... however, the picture and sound quality is 10 times better than the new theater at Norton.
I actually stopped going to the Norton theater because 2 movies I saw messed up during it, and I missed part of the film. Went out and asked the crew to reset the movies, and they wouldn't. Asked for a refund and they said they couldn't.

i remember that happening, what was their reasoning for not refunding the money?

Re: 3D coming to Norton Cinema?
Saw 3D comes out Oct. 29, will it be ready by then?

just said they weren't allowed to and argued the fact I didn't miss enough of it.
This was discussed on their facebook page once, and whoever ran it said it would be handled. It never was.

Re: 3D coming to Norton Cinema?
I've been to multiple movies there and it literally has the worst picture of any movie theater I've been to in the last 5 years. Very dark, off center, and blurry every single time. It's something you can count on. The sound is also terribly distorted the majority of the time.
Also, like others said, the movie has turned off on us the last4 out of 5 times I've been there. Never once have they restarted it or given a refund despite being asked to.
Terrible picture, terrible picture, terrible management. If there was a decent movie theater (and I wouldn't call Norton Cinema decent) closer than 45minutes-an hour away, NC would be out of business.

Re: 3D coming to Norton Cinema?
Thats crazy... I got there EVERY single weekend and I've never had that happen to me once, watched a movie they said a section was cut out due to damage... you must just go at bad times.. movie cutting off in the middle like that 4 out of 5 times? ... sounds like an Exaggeration to me.
Theaters should give you rain checks if you don't see all the flim it sounds like you got screwed on that deal whoever didn't get to rewatch the movie that sucks
As far as it being off centered i've seen that a few times.. but i've seen that a few times anywhere you go to the movies.. You don't get less that the average "Full Screen" movie cut off. Sounds like a hater to me, Have you ever been to the theater in PIKEVILLE UGH this theater dominates it... and are you Really going to go to abingdon every weekend to watch an hour and a half movie? If you go only once every few months more power to you but if you crank out flicks like I do, most of what you watch isn't worth driving 45 minutes to abingdon to see something thats really in the end not that much better quality.

It's happened to me, too... it's the worst, when the picture is blurry and the lips move faster than the sound and they won't fix it or rain check.
It's also funny, that there was discussion on their facebook about the problems, but it's no longer there?? hhmm...

I've never had a problem with a picture there either. It would look much better in digital though. That'd be a much better investment than that 3-D garbage.

Re: 3D coming to Norton Cinema?
dang, maybe im just unlucky or they have fixed it since the last time i was there. people got up and walked out of dark knight because it was so bad.
-
Re: 3D coming to Norton Cinema?
I saw Dark Knight there and had no problems. It could be something as simple as the monkey's who are running it on a certain day.

Same with me. I went back a 2nd time with my brother and it was fine.
Hot Tub Time Machine cut out about 5 minutes of the movie, and Old Dogs the picture went out for about 5 or 6 minutes and the sound stayed on.

its a conspiracy against us or something man, i still cant remember the name of that other movie but ill ask my wife, after going 2 for 2 with no luck i just havent been back and its kind of not fair for me to base my judgements on only two showings but i felt like i got cheated out of my money twice.

The place is trash man. Complete trash.
Btw, 4 out of 5 times is no exaggeration. Complete truth.

Re: 3D coming to Norton Cinema?
I don't think there's any such thing as a 3D screen is there? Digital projects typically can show 3D films. So is it just that they have purchased a digital projector, so that they can show 3D films when available?
-
Re: 3D coming to Norton Cinema?
And just to expand what others are talking about, Norton Cinema isn't a great quality theater but if could be if he would invest in the digital projectors. In fact, it would be great theater if he would.
I don't mind to watch movies there, but if im watching a movie thats suppose to be visibly appealing im heading to the Tri-Cities.

Re: 3D coming to Norton Cinema?
I go Every sunday Noonish Showing Depending on if I cut grass on saturday or not...(but usually before 430showings Maybe the employees that work when you go there are busy doing other stuff than doing their job up in the Projection Booth?... but last week I went to Jackass at 9pm whatever showing and it was fine then too.
Im torn this week between My Soul to take or Red... noonish tomorrow i'll let you know if it screws up... but Im mindboggled by the problems many of you are having.... as much as I seriously go there i've never had a problem finishing the movie I went to watch nor has it "cut off" and them have to fix it.. if you *******s jynx me i'll never forgive you.

Don't waste your time on "My Soul to Take"... RED is way better.

Re: 3D coming to Norton Cinema?
I've been there 5 or 6 times. only have had mini problems. had to go ask them to adjust the focus of 2 movies and that is it.
-
Re: 3D coming to Norton Cinema?
I think I've seen five or six films there. The sound was horrible for all. Far too loud and distorted. The picture has been fuzzy for all as well.
I don't think I've been there for at least 8 months, probably won't ever go back. Their only positive is location.
-
Re: 3D coming to Norton Cinema?
I can't count the number of times I've been there. Not every weekend like some people. LoL ;) But I've been LOTS of times and only ever had 1 problem. That was the midnight showing of New Moon I took my wife to see. The film cut in the middle of it and ended up missing around 5 minutes of it. So it was really like her problem. LoL Sure the sound is usually loud but I've never noticed any distortion. And the picture has always been good. Never too dark when I've been.
-
Re: 3D coming to Norton Cinema?
It's really bad, there's no way around it. The sound and picture is always screwing up, I've been to two in the day where they just completely forgot to start the movie and eventually had to go tell them to do it after 30 minutes. It had so much potential, still sort of does, but it's just awful now. Sorry but the seats don't make up for just a ****ty, poor run theater. I could be laying in my bed, but if everything else is run ****ty, then it's still ****ty.

Re: 3D coming to Norton Cinema?
not a 3D screen but A 3D projector. I can't believe that they did not have one from the begining, all they did was bring the old projectors from coeburn, wise, and dryden instead of getting new state of the art projectors like they advertised. The best, clearest projectors for 3d close to here is the theater at the kingsport mall, norton city cimema sucks
