Rumor mill is churning! I heard today that VHS coach (Thurman) is leaving to take high profile job in NC and Phil Robbins is his possible replacement? Does Phil have it in him?
Same rumor has popped up about Phil for the past 4-5 years now. One had him taking over at Lee a couple of years ago. I wouldn't hold much stock in that.
With his years teaching and the job being an 11 month contract i would say he'd make a lot of money if he did go.
True....but never until now has Phil been officially done at the the end of the season.
Doubtful. I think Phil has a better gig lined up.
I was told in BSG the other day Phil was going to UVA Wise

If Robbins does end up coaching somewhere else I doubt it will be at a Virginia school. He will either go to UVA-Wise or an out of state school so he can draw Virginia retirement plus another salary.
I heard this evening Volunteer job is probably going to open up. The rumor is that Witten is leaving Elizabethton and that Rider at Volunteer will go there. The Volunteer job is something Robbins could do, it has low taxes, is a good place to live and would definitely be a challenge (in the Big Eight) It will be tough because the whole athletic program underachieves on regular basis.
As said before. Robbins is going to UVA Wise. About 80% sure of that.
Milk I would say 99%, he gets a title of head of Football operations and probably offensive coordinator, as you all know his fellow E&H alum and Fraternity brother Dewy Lusk is the Head coach next year. WHole reason he came over was so Gil could play for Phil

Also heard that Compton is out at PH....has trouble relating to the kids. Just becaused you played in the NFL doesn't make you a great coach?
Heard that also form a sales contact, says he is big disappointment. If kids won't listen to Super Bowl Rings what will they hear. He is from a different time frame though he prob. close to 45 by now.

My cousin who coaches at Northside told me that. I wonder if he was playing with me. I'll text him tomorrow and ask him. Billy hates GC we played them and beat them a couple of times in the 80's of 90's. He never lets me talk of it at family functions he played O-line at UVA he is much bigger than me.
I didn't imply that Phil and Dewey were at E&H at the same time, but there both were in the same Fraternity when each was at E&H.
Thurman will never be at DB..... get real..... Quarles, Rankin, Carter, Bullard, etc, etc..... DB job is a great job. The list would be long.... Big Money job..... There would be tons of people trying to get that job.Quote:

I played for Wilson and Clark at DB. Clark is a great person. He really cares about the kids that play for him. As far as the money spent, to be fair alot the money if not all, was raised by Alumni for the upgrades to the facilities at DB. I hope Coach Clark sticks around for awhile. If DB jobs does come open there will be a ton of names come up. Alot from not around here. Alot from knoxville area. I would like to see them go after Rankin if he did leave but if he stays around awhile I would like for Snavley at Happy Valley to get a look. He is unproven but played for Clark runs the same offense and knows the game. He won't get it but he is going to be a great coach.
I've got no problem with Clark or D-B, but man that's alot of money isn't it. I think priorities are wrong in many places especially sports. Clark is a good guy and very funny man, I just keep hearing his is going to retire if he does I hope he enjoys it.
I agree with you. It is a ton of money. Kids should have books in school. It is screwed up and it isn't right.....

John Battle High School?s football coach Ryan Witten won?t be on the sidelines Friday night. Authorities confirmed Wednesday that he is being investigated by the Washington County Sheriff?s Office.
School officials would not reveal who would be holding the clipboard for the Trojans, nor would they elaborate on why the 33-year-old coach would be absent. From a black Nokia phone, police seized 211 digital photographs and from a LG phone, police retained a ?digitally recorded video documenting the examination of the device.?
Sheriff Fred Newman confirmed Wednesday that the investigation is ongoing, but declined to elaborate.
Washington County Public Schools Interim Superintendant Jim Sullivan would not comment on the investigation. He said the school ?is still working on the situation? and did not know the name of the person who will be filling in for Witten on Friday, when the team travels to Castlewood for a non-district game.
John Battle Principal Jeff Hawkins did not return phone calls made to the high school and his home earlier in the week. On Wednesday at the Clinch Mountain and Hogoheegee cross country meets, Hawkins said that ?all information needs to go through the superintendant? and repeated himself when asked who would lead the Trojans against the Blue Devils.
An e-mail sent to both Sullivan and Hawkins on Wednesday asking for the name of Friday?s football coach was not returned.
Battle Athletic Director Kevin Perrigan did not return calls to his cell phone.
Witten had the Trojans on the cusp of their first .500 season since 1998. Heading into Friday?s game at Castlewood, Battle sported a 4-4 record and, under Witten, has compiled a 7-11 record in his two seasons at the school.
Since 1998, the John Battle football program has rolled out seven head coaches and has yet to win a game in the 3-year-old Clinch Mountain District.
Witten is the older brother of Dallas Cowboys tight end and former University of Tennessee standout Jason Witten. His other brother, Shawn, is head football coach at Elizabethton High School.
Ryan Witten did not return a voice mail left Friday evening and, since Monday, a recording said that his voice mail box is full.

Stupid is, as stupid does. Probably thought he'd never get caught, but that what investigations are for.
Ive heard different backgrounds on this. One would make him very innocent and give him an opportunity at a lawsuit himself if he wanted. Who knows what is true though.
I would venture to say that if his last name wasn't Witten, he would be getting blasted vigorously right now.
I don't know the whole story, but when will these coaches/teachers ever learn?
The Witten family isn't to smart. I think maybe Jason is the exception, thier mom got in trouble for stealing a few years ago. I don't know the whole situation a John Battle but stuff like this happens everyday. I know two people who have gotten in trouble for sending texts to underage kids, one male, one female, and both of them claim they were just kidding around, but remember who you are messing with, kids. If he did it he deserves what he gets.
