30-0 GC at the half...
I thought GC would win but thought PV would at least make a showing. Phil may have made them mad, Nick would have took it good natured, but he's not there.
Exactly what I expected, from the first quarter right down to the final score. Powell Valley has nothing - absolutely nothing - to offer this year other than a good punter.
it was brutal lol
gate city has a really good ballclub, no doubts about it. beat PV up front, beat them running the ball, just were no doubt who the better team was. GC's RB stable was both fast and physical, as was the defense. PV got little going at all in teh first half (we left at the half, no sense in watching PV get hammered)
the GC lines on both sides were great; they controlled the LOS for the most part (PV did play well at times, but PV's offense did not get a first down so they were out there constantly. the PV defense tried really to contain the rush, but GC would get two smaill gains then a first down then hit a big play, they wore the PV defense down early with teh TOP and starting position)
This is the first time I have seen PV 11 on 11 in three years what happened to the depth and the size. Phil was still coaching hard down 30 plus points it just looks like he doesn't have the talent or depth to make a dent in the competition. Oh how the mighty has fallen, and from what I heard talking to PV people at fence the future isn't much brighter.
well i heard that Gate city and Powell Valleys 8th grade played thursday night and Gate City won that game 44-0 so maybe ole phil knew it was time to get out......Quote:

Brad Robbins, who was in my class, never played JV ball with us. He was varsity full-time. A few JV players would practice with the varsity, but only a few did not play with the JV team.

I don't know of anywhere where 8th grade kids practice with varsity, other than preseason conditioning type work. What Biggin' is saying is that lots of times a handful or even several freshmen are pulled to varsity to contribute or even start. 4 years ago 2 of this years starters were freshmen and started for the varsity.
