bus ride from BSG to Norton?
ok, we know it is a straight 20 minute ride from BSG to Norton. How long will that ride be with the school bus stopping to pick up students?

20 Mins to go 8 or 9 miles on a 4 lane....Hmmmmm
Re: bus ride from BSG to Norton?
Won't the stops already have been made?? No picking up students on the four-lane I'm sure.
Re: bus ride from BSG to Norton?
OK, let me re-ask this. When the first student gets on the bus, how long will it take to make all the stops and get to the school? and OK, if you start on the 4-lane then sure, you are looking at about 12-15 minutes from BSG to Norton but then you add another 5 to get to the other side on Norton and to the proposed school.
Re: bus ride from BSG to Norton?
5 minutes to get from one side of Norton to the other on the Bypass? Are they stopping for gas? ;)
Re: bus ride from BSG to Norton?
If it's planned right, only 1 bus should be making stops along the 4-lane... the rest will be "express".
Re: bus ride from BSG to Norton?
Are there any houses on the four lane?

From BSG to Norton? None that I know of. From BSG south to the county line there are.
Re: bus ride from BSG to Norton?
So what the poor pampered little buggers will have a longer bus ride. My wife caught the bus in Breathitt county at 6:30 every morning and was on it for an hour+ to get to school everyday. I have seen many times coming back from Breathitt early to make it to work kids standing out waiting on the bus as early as 6:00 and they do just fine, and these are kids out on Hwy 15 only about 15-20 minutes from the school. Breathitt is a much larger county, (as far as geographical size not population) and doesn't have two major 4-lane highways criscrossing it. Come to think of it, 15 is the only major highway in the county and most of it is 2 lane. Of course they are now working on building a new 4-lane hwy. but where it is won't help school traffic throughout most of the county.
Re: bus ride from BSG to Norton?
Many RC students are on the bus for over an hour. No big deal.
Re: bus ride from BSG to Norton?
I lived 3 miles from school.
The bus ride for me was 45 minutes.
I never thought a thing about it.
Re: bus ride from BSG to Norton?
OK, since all of you are trying to show me I'm wrong let me point this out to you. You all are acting like all the kids in BSG will be getting on the bus at the current PV High School then going straight to the new proposed school. as you know this will be wrong. the bus will be going into BSG to pick up the students. Plus what about all the kids in the Valley? Yes, a bus will have to run there also. So all the comments about how many stops the bus will make on the 4-lane? well zero. how many stops will the bus make in the town and in the valley?????

No just thinking that extra time wise it is not THAT bad
Re: bus ride from BSG to Norton?
Take the regular bus routes. The buses will make their regular runs (valley, in town, outskirts, etc.), but instead of stopping at PVHS they keep driving to the new location. Add about 20 minutes to their regular run time.
It takes me 15 minutes on a slow day to get from the middle of Norton to the middle of BSG.
I'm not saying they'll keep the exact same bus runs, but this is just a time example to go by.

It will be the same just add 20 minutes for the trip up the 4-lane, not a big deal really.
Re: bus ride from BSG to Norton?
I agree that time wise it shouldn't be a big deal. These are HS kids, not 1st graders. I was just curious what kind of time would be spent on the bus by the kids. If it were the younger kids it would make a huge difference I think.

im not getting where you are coming from either man, 20 minutes more than the regular routes isnt bad.
Re: bus ride from BSG to Norton?
I wouldn't be as concerned for an experienced bus driver making his run up the mountain in the fog as I would an inexperienced 16 or 17 year old driving their own car.

The way I understand what has been proposed for the Appy kids are the same bus routes to the elem school and filling the buses to the high school from there. I would think it would work about the same for the rest of us.
