They'll be at Wise.
Cool guess somebody just didnt know what they where talking about.
Thanks to the crying and other things it'll be the last year up there. I'll miss it.
That's the other things. I like watching games at Clintwood but I liked watching GC, Lebanon and others play on the same day. It's a special thing and I hate it'll be no more.
Im with Lung, it was awesome to have all the games up there at one time at a nice field with good facilities and good seating.
Too bad some teams cant accept not getting their way 100% of the time.
Good seating? I suppose you haven't sat on the visitors side? And it's about the principle of being the higher seed. If School X is the higher seed and wants to play at UVAW more power to them. Let's see how many teams want to play at UVAW next year under the new format. I'm sure they can if they want to give up home field.
I can honestly say I will not miss it. High School football games are meant to be played on High School Fields. Also the parking up there was a mess last year. I got a phone call at halftime in the first that my daughter was being taken to the ER in Kingsport. So here I go trying to get to my vehicle as quick as possible that was parked about a mile away. Not a nice walk with all my back troubles and all the crap going through my mind about my daughter. That very reason is why if GC makes it there again this year I will likely not be going. I have a sickness in the familly now and last report I got today is this familly member will likely not make it a month. I missed the GC @ Lee game because of the uncertainty of her shape. So I am not chancing going Wise and something come up again. That was the scariest walk of my life not knowing how bad things was with my daughter. I also know of a lot of older folks that have not seen a Region Title game since this started because they are in no shape of making that trip but would rarely miss one played at GC. I know a lot of people like the idea of seeing two games in the same day but there are a lot others that dont get to see one of those games because they are not in good enough shape to get to Wise.
I agree with Lung and Biggin, it made for a great day of football with two games for the price of one.
The Higher seed thing is not the important part about this. Region D reserves the right to choose the location of both Region Semis and Finals. In doing so they should pick locations with High School Fields and not an outdated College Field. Fact is that game at UVA Wise last year was the only Single A game played on a College Field with College Goal Posts. Richlands would have been an excellent choice to play this game on the very same type and measured Field as Salem's field. I did like the idea of seeing both games at one field but that college field does cause problems for teams. I talked this over last year with a person that had more knowledge of football than most of us have through our whole bodies. A College measured field is setup more for teams with plenty of speed. If you dont know what I am referring to it is how narrow the hash marks are on a college field. It normally takes a team with plenty of speed on defense to defend the run well on a college field. Most High School defenses dont have that type of speed. Also there is the narrower goal posts at Wise. Most HS kickers have trouble kicking field goals through HS goal posts and are in real trouble when they encounter the College ones. I have seen HS teams on TV that have barely missed FGs on college fields but if they are just outside the posts they are counted as good. I dont believe the reffs at Wise do that. Bottom line is there are rules and measurements in the HS Rule Books for a reason. If they can bend the rules for the size of fields then they might as well do so for facemask calls.
Dang it why am I even arguing this again!?!?!?
So the games are this saturday or next? Stupid question, I know.
Playoffs begin next weekend.
Gate City has the WORST seating arrangements in the universe at any level... nobody from gate city has the right to say anything about the "visitors side"... im glad to see some from GC realize the visitors should have thier own side...back to topic
I like D1 and D2 being played same day / same location it was cool.
That is just simply not true.Quote:

I meant to say the only Region Championship game played at a college field. Dont know what the others played on during the regular season. I know there was another Regional game played on a neutral HS field but cant remember who or where.
When does Wise get their new Field Turf?
It was a nice convenience but not a necessity. It took a home playoff game from two teams and put four teams on a surface they don't normally play on. Do you think Lebanon would have beaten GC at Legion Field last year, but guess what they didn't have to go they got them on a neutral field, when it was just the LPD and Cumberland and BDD, it was an easy sell, but as the region expands so do the opinions on where you should play your playoff games. I think if a team earns a number one seed it should be where they want to play. If Powell Valley wants to play in the parking lot at Food City they should be able too instead of saying ok lets go to Clintwood, or Wise or Appy cause region D says so.
i agree the visitor side at uva wise does suck but most visitor sides due suck at high school fields and most college fields! and yes arent they getting field turf after this year? and parking is not the best anywhere not just a uvawise and im almost sure they have shuttle service!
Isnt the whole idea of a championship the best team wins?
Just an fyi, baseball and basketball post season play is played on a neutral field/court.
And 100% of the time the best team wins
Ha! Most of the teams in Region D, LPD especially, don't even have enough fans to fill 1/2 a side a GC. Most didn't bring more than 4-500 fans to GC. PV always had a good crowd and that's about it. So at least GC CAN accomodate more than 500 fans which the UVAW visitor seating would do good to seat. So, to answer, GC has plenty of seating for most visiting teams.
Skeletor does your world revolve around hate for the Big Blue of Gate City you were on here three weeks ago arguing about the seating at Gate City it is what it is and is not going to change. If you do not like the seating arrangement you don't have to go. Gate City truly does have haterz everywhere we go.
To be brutally honest, it's because of the way many of the fans behave at the games. I don't hate Gate City athletes, coaches, or the school myself. I instead hate the way many of the fans behave. It's been harped on for years as to why many people dislike Gate City. What makes it worse is when some of them don't own up to it and say that their fans had crappy behavior but they instead justify it.
Some of my friends I have had at Gate City have tried to deny that many of the fans stir trouble with other fans or yell inappropriate things at teams sometimes (GC was called out on here by another GC grad for that in 07 at the state game). A simple I didn't see or hear it might be understandable but denying it happens makes it worse.
Your fans represent your team and your school. When the behavior of one or many of them is bad, it reflects poorly on the team, athletic program, and the school. That's why GC gets a bad rap.
Anyway, it is kind of cool to have the Region D finals at a neutral field. Think of it this way: state finals are on neutral fields. Why doesn't the team with more power points out of the two teams playing complain that the game isn't at THEIR field? All the other sports in the Region are set up that way.
I respect the program at Gate City. Put it this way, there is a point in the galaxy that every solar system, planet, etc. revolves around. That point is not Gate City.
I hate to pee in the oatmeal, but the last 2 times I've been to GC (Appy won one of those games) , some of the folks from GC offered me the seat next to them , couple even offered to buy a hotdog. If you wait till you have to stand at the fence, expect the rednecks- we all have them. :D Last time I caught a GC playoff at home the guy I stood next to, said he was sorry about the air horns, but it was something he did. I'd as soon go to GC as anywhere. If you can't take it- stay home, top seed should get to play at home on the highschool fields. Last game at PV some jerk had one of the cheerleader signs crammed in his pants, daring the girls to pull it out.
In response to trumpet, I am not saying anything about anybody's fans. The worst I have ever been treated was at Bullitt Park and Appy was a close second, but that has not kept me from going back there numerous times since. I have watched many games at GC sitting beside someone from the opposing school, I cheered for GC they cheered for their team. I still keep in contact with the people I met from Jefferson Forest and Brookvillie and have become good friends with a couple of guys from George Wythe I met sitting in their stadium. I gave my seat to a family from Honaker so they could sit together, not every fan is rude you need to go to Tennessee High or Sullivan South that is rudeness personified. I know most hate is generated by jealousy and that is why people hate GC,PV, and Appy. If your not good at anything one can never be humble, I think alot of fans need more humility but they did pay to get in and it is still a free country.
Point to me where I said every Gate City fan. I said many of them. And I understand why people would hate PV fans as well. But I'm not going to sit here and say "it's jealousy blah blah blah" even though a lot of it probably is. Breathitt County is worse than Gate City. Trust me. My beef with Gate City is the behavior of many of their fans. Have no issue with the athletes. Have no issues with the coaches. They're just doing their job. Giles is pretty rough too.
If you're going to sit with opposing fans, just be mature about it as I am sure you are. I've been able to sit with opposing fans in professional sports. Braves at Reds near the end of July. Had no problem. I stood up and cheeered and was afraid I blocked the view of a Reds fan. I apologized and he said "no problem, you're just cheering for your team." If you're going to sit with opposing fans, you've got to have that mentality. If you're going to just be an immature little maggot, then you reflect poorly on the team you support. That's what I am getting at. When someone from PV acts like a little maggot, it reflects poorly on PV, just as it would on GC if GC fans were behaving that way.
Just like Philadelphia Phillies getting a bad rap. Had some of their fans act like total honkies this season with the running onto the field during game play and grown man intentionally vomiting on preteen girls. It reflects poorly on your team.
I dont think the best team has won at UVA Wise much at all. PV was the better team in 07 by 3 or 4 tds but GC beat them at Wise. You take teams out of their element and all hades breaks loose. Had that game been played at PV who was the top seed then PV would have went on to play Gretna for state. I may be eating crow later but if Clintwood faces Burton up there this year then you can crown Burton Region D Champs. That field favors Burtons play style too much and we all know who the better team is. As for the CHAMPIONSHIP being played on a neutral field I dont call the Region Championship game a real Championship. It is just a State Quarterfinal game and the only Championship that matters is the State Title.
I am not totally against the Region games being at Wise. When UVA Wise gets their new Field Turf they need to order one like Salems with both College and HS markings. That and buy a set of goal posts that can be widened to HS specs. That way if this new playoff format dont work out then they will have a suitable field to host these games and there would be nothing anyone could say about the games being played there. That field turf is very similar to a grass field and having HS markings would be a great way for Wise to show just how interested they are in hosting these games.
Or just rotate basketball between five sites: Castlewood, Lebanon, Virginia High, Clinchco and the new Wise arena.
