Once again, the mighty Indians of Kingsport lose in the playoffs to a Knoxville-area school.

I can't wait to read Bill Lane's meandering tripe in the paper. :2thumbsup:

Lung was there and from what he was telling me there is no way in the world DB should have lost this game. Stats were extremely lopsided DB's way. Sounds like Devrin Young had a pretty good game for Bearden
Same song different verse..... same ol' Indians.... Just to many mama's boys....
All this did was to save D-B a trip to Maryville. Nobody would have liked the bus ride back to Kingsport after this game.
DB won time of possession 33 minutes to 15 and had over 500 yards of offense to BHS's 245. Bearden has absolutely nothing but Young. They ran every play out of the shotgun usually with two backs and 9 times out of 10 it went to Young. He ran the ball for 113 yards on 25 carries but as a team Bearden finished with 107 rushing. Their offensive line wasn't very good and as soon as the ball was snapped there were at least 3 DL in the backfield on every play. Young probably lost 50 yards trying to get away from people in the backfield. DB outtalents them 10x1. Cannon, Seabolt, Sensabaugh, and several other kids on DB's team can be good college players. Cannon and Sensabaugh both had over 100 yards. Sensabaugh had 180+. Bearden has Young and that's about it. DB killed themselves with penalties. they had 11 or 13 for about 150 yards. The dolts from DB I was sitting around were crying from the first flag on. I don't know how you complain about a false start penalty where the left guard comes out of his stance and the ball is never snapped. Late hits out of bounds, late hits in bounds, PI penalties that there was no reason to commit. Just horrible focus.
It was fun watching a game over there though. It just shows you how medicore ball is around here. Everyone who has seen Clintwood play has seen #53 and talked about how big he is at 6'6" 305 lbs, but it seemed like there were 10 of those on each of the rosters last night. 70 kids on each roster and kids that can actuallly run with speed and not the make believe speed that folks from Norton and Clintwood sometimes think they have. It's a whole other world.
As for Young he scored 4 rushing TD's and 1 TD on a KOR. They were short kicking so he couldn't touch the ball all night but on the TD the upback caught the ball, turned around immediately and pitched it back 10 yards behind him to Young who looked like he was shot out of a cannon up the home sideline and nobody had a chance of catching him. Can't wait to see him at UT. He didn't look as short as I thought he would and he's built like a tank. Absolutely ripped.
Was there myself ditto everything Lung said. DB is the overrated sports program in Tennessee, all they do is choke in the playoffs in every sport except volleyball. The guys on WKPT (the local radio) sounded like they were going to jump out of the radio booth window. The funny thing was I sat with Beardan QB family and his parents couldn't believe all the other schools there to root against DB (seen people from South, North, Cental, East, Science Hill, Tenn. High, Coach Stubbs cheered like crazy when kicker didn't get kick off). The Bearden folks said they appreciated the support. Once again the University of Kingsport is out of the playoffs and all is normal in the Model City.
You should have heard all of the excuses, blaming, whining, ect. going on after the game. I turned it over there and it was pathetic. Blaming officials. Basically calling Clark God. Saying that Sensabaugh was the best back in the state (I took it as a slight against Young who's commited to a D1 school). They were reading stats and they had DB with 11 or 12 penalty's and they said "Bearden... (he said something smartass I can't remember here) and then 3 penalties (emphasizing 3)" and then laughing. Most of DB's penalties were the obvious kind of stuff, late hits, false starts. It wasn't stuff that was that hard to call.
Lineman like that aren't the norm at DB. The last time I got to watch them they had munchkins out there. Looking at their starting lines each year in years past this was the biggest I could remember in a long time.
I don't know who #72 was on DB, but he held every play and the official finally called holding on him twice in fourth quarter. DB could have had a least five more penalties. The guys on WKPT are about the biggest homers ever but it is their station. When Tom Taylor did the DB games on 1320, he was the best around. He does the South games now on 100.7 FM., but all things considered DB should have won but did not, and never will win state. That gigantic wall that DB can't cross runs right down the middle of I-75, and there is a sign on it that says DB stops here.
According to their online roster #72 is Corey Hall. Did 77 play? Tyler Hayworth. I though the was not gonna play due to an ankle injury but wasn't sure.
Lung, looking at DB's roster, are you sure their pads didn't make them look bigger? Just putting together their 5 biggest guys on their online roster, I think RC has a bigger line than DB.
I sent that comment to UTVols last night while looking at Bearden in pregame. DB's OL weren't as big. They were more of the 6'1-2" 240-260 lbers. Could have been pads, I just know that what ever was done last night, both those teams looked more impressive than any team I've seen around here since at least GC early last decade.
btw...on the radio last night Clark said Hayworth didn't play.
Hayworth did not play, that was the first excuse out of Coach Clark's mouth after the game DB also had another lineman out, Clark also said this was the best group of ballplayers he has ever had and thought they could win two or three more games but it did not happen. I thought DB's line played alright and dominated at times Senesabugh had some huge holes to run through, Bearden wasn't overly large on the D-Line either. I know Hayworth is a big guy and is getting a lot of looks from colleges but I would not touch the kid, he has issues I hope the Vols lay off and let him be someone else's problem.
Takes alot of balls to bash a high school kid on a message board...... Hayworth is a hell of a player.... You wouldn't bash that kid to his face or better yet his dad's....
The reason everybody cheers against DB is simple. Because DB has dominated upper East TN football for years. So you can take all the shots you want. It doesn't change that fact.
Yea DB chokes in the playoffs but honestly the football up here doesn't match up with middle and West TN. Even knoxville area lately. DB has had teams that where as good or better than teams that have won it. But they haven't for whatever reason. Even those teams where few and far between. This team wasn't one. They where better than Bearden but it is what it is. Football is different over there.
There is no doubt there isn't as much passion, at least from the kids, as there is at some programs in southwest Va. I don't think there is the same level of year round dedication at DB that there is at some programs in southwest Va. and it takes that to win state titles. I played at DB but I have been around Gate City's program. If DB kids had those expectations, the pressure to win from the comunity, the year round dedication, there is no doubt in my mind there would be state titles in the trophy case.
The other thing is kids in SWVA grow up playing together they form a bond from that. They don't want to let each other down. It isn't the same at DB. When I played there may have been 5 kids from the city of Kingsport that started. There where kids from Chruch Hill, South, Central, I was from Gate City. It is just totally different that what most people who read this board are used to that played in SWVA.
The other problem is alot of those kids have heard how great they are so much they start to believe they can just roll those helmets out there and that is all they have to do. They don't like to get hit in the mouth. They have never had to fight back. They are used to Mama and Daddy giving them everything they want and they have not faced any adversity before. They get used to beating the Central's and Volunteer's or whoever. When they finally face some it is new and it is at the most important time.
DB has a great program. They have a head coach who I believe is as good a man as I have ever been around. He cares about the kids and it goes beyond just words. He hasn't had any luck in the playoffs but no one could ever say Coach Clark or DB for that matter isn't one of the best around. Win or lose in the playoffs....
I was thinking the same thing. Kingsport always has some talented athletes. Science Hill also. Tennessee High was the underachiever this year in my book. Greenville must have a very good team this year.
Greenville is awesome. THS isn't any where in their league. They'd make Richlands look pedestrian.
In response to VOL69 I didn't bash the kid, I just stated an opinion or is that illegal now. I know the family and know enough about the family to say what I said, oh and by the way I am not afraid of his father either. I never attacked the kid personally but there are issues with him. You can like it or not, it is my opinion.
You are entitled to your "opinion". I just said it doesn't take any balls to bash a high school kid on a message board and that is my "opinion"....
The sins of the father are not the sins of the son....
I would love to have him in knoxville. The kid can play. He is big, athletic, and plays a little angry. Which in my "opinion" are the traits that make good O'linemen....
I think I am going to cease-fire on this because this is way off topic, everyone has opinions, you have yours and I'll have mine. Let's get back to the real fun of bashing DB.
I really think UT needs to offer Sensabaugh he'd be a great FB, and is a good kid.
At the DB-Bearden gamea scout from Maryvillie told me Greenvillie has the most talent of any school from Bristol to Nashvillie, I ask him if UT had offered Carmichael he said "no" because he is not qualified and said he was looking at JC or prep school to get grades up and go some where big later.
Carmichael is freaky good. I don't know if he's a D1 player, he's definately not at QB. He can make a college roster somewhere though. I'd like to see him at a D1 school as a HB or a slot reciever. At a preseason camp this past spring he ran a laser timed 4.33 in Knoxville. Supposedly it was a fast track but that's till pretty impressive.
i havent saw the kid in person Lung, how big is he?
I've seen him listed as 6'1" 200 lbs. I'd say he's around 6'. I think he has a Western Carolina offer. I'm sure he's got offers from a bunch of smaller schools. This Friday night check out the local news highlights. He's something to see.

so no way he is a QB at the big D1 level.
6' 200 makes a helluva slot wr or a wing back tho, percy harvin-style.
ive saw some highlights, not much but some.
That is a prefect description on Greenville... I watched the Tenn High game. They are somthing else. They don't look like a high school team with the pads on. Big kids. Hall the D'linemen is a beast as well. I am not sure what grade he is in but I would think he would get some looks.
but carmichael's not the best player in the state, TN has some pretty big recruits every year.
jabriel washington committed to alabama, tino thomas is going to UT, antonie the big de, devrin young is going to ut, etc..
i admit i dont know much at all about carmichael, but i dont think hes the best in TN
If I am not mistaken the reason Western Carolina offered him is that is where family moved from and has connections to the program. I know that Carson-Newman, Tusculum, and Bervard have offered him. I seen the Greenevillie-Science Hill scrimage tape you talk about a track meet Greenevillie won 11-10

Willie is the most dangerous player in Tenn. He can take it to the house on anyone anytime anywhere.
he is a good player, but if he was that good, he would have some big-time offers like other kids.
Young at Bearden is going to UT, and the guys I listed before are all big time players.
Lung, Bob, VOL61, can anyone back me up here?
The thing about Young is though he wasn't highly recruited. Miss St. was about to jump on him and UT offered and he took it because thats what he had always hoped for. Carmichael's biggest issue to me maybe the competition he has played has kept him from being looked at more. He's also a little bit of a tweener, and when you marry the two together it hurts your stock. I think he's a legit D1 guy.
not just Young, even DY is not at teh level as the best TN players.
two huge 4* OL, a 4* DE Antonie, etc....
no doubt Carmichael is really good, but I just dont see the best player in the state not getting big offers.
I wont disagree there. But, those 4* OL and DL generally arent the most explosive players in the state. They will dominate at their position but tend to get overlooked when POY stuff comes up. I will be a little surprised if Carmichael isnt Mr. Football for his division.
okay, then just wait till he gets the award lol
6' 200 4.33 avrages 16.7 yards a carry? something like 87 for 1300? 500 passing yards.
BOOM.
He doesnt get the attention he deserves imo. Ill eat crow if someone proves me wrong. I've just been star struck by Willie all year, he dominates like its not even funny.
he may get Mr. Football, I dont doubt that one bit.
but that does not mean he is the best player in the state.
he may be most electric and dynamic, he is no doubt very, very good.
but theres a couple other kids that can argue that. Washington, an Alabama committ as an ATH, is very dynamic and a great playmaker. He is a QB now but will be a DB at Bama.
Titus Young is very electric, Dunaway the OLB is very very good, Artaves Gibson is a solid 3* guy with big playmaking ability.
lol thats what mr football means best player
in his division. not the best player in the state.
here are some Washington highlights;

Washington could be the Mr. Football in his division as well, but I dont think he is even the best player in the state.
Washington plays against horrible competition. I think they are D1. Which is the smallest Division in TN. That doesn't mean he isn't the best. But just because the guy is ranked by Tom Lemming as the best player doesn't mean he is either.
Carmicheal doesn't play against great competition either. But if you just watch the kid play with your own eyes. It would be hard to imagine many kids any better at least at what they do. But he is also surounded by good players. So it goes both ways.
Rivials isn't he be all end all. They are right most of the time. But not always.
Washington, Richardson, Clear, Dunaway, Kerbyson, even Crowder and Downs and there are alot more ranked higher that doesn't mean they are.
you are right, rivals or scout is not the end all be all.
but they are right most of the time and have a good idea about who has the potential to be big time players.
its not a slight towards WC, ive said over and over again he is a great, electric player.
but being Mr. Football does not mean you are the best player in the state.
that was my point about Washington, he is a top candidate for Mr. Football in his division, but he isnt the best TN player IMO.
but if a kid is that good, undoubtedly he gets big time offers. Not ness. stars on rivals or whatever, but offers from big time D1 schools, combined with talent, you can usually see the best 4-5 players in the state.
Ok VOL, do you think Carmichael is the best player in the entire state of Tennessee?
(for the record, and this is not the definite answer or the end all be all, it does not mean he is not an elite player, but Scout has Carmichael listed as a QB, with no stars and no rankings or offers. I cannot find him on Rivals.)
Carmichael isnt the best player in TN. That would be Tiny Richardson. Carmichael might be the most fun to watch but he isn't the best player. I think Austin Rogers and or Zack Rogers also won the Mr. Football award at one point, neither of those two were any where near the top player in the state at any point in time.
