I think Gate City gets Harlan County, Bluefield, South, Clintwood, and Powell Valley. O'yea and last but not least Richlands.... pretty tough....

i understand the hazard game is at clintwood, and is the first game of the year. apparently hazard is pretty good. they are currently undefeated and have won 40+ games over the last 4 or so years. along with gate city and an improving lee, that's some tough pick-ups.
Rye Cove changed their schedule. Replaced JJK, JIB and Sullivan North with Holston, Twin Valley, and Han**** County, TN. Appy was still on it I think as long as Appy is open next year.
when does the "official" schedules come out?
Generally the VHSL's is "final" until late July early August.
Well I was told by a couple of our coches, that at the Regional meeting monday that Swede Mullins and Gene Rowland were there to advise everyone that Appalachia, Pound and St. Paul are being closed in May 2011 regardless what goes on in the next few month with the BOS and School board and everyone needed to adjust there schedules accordingly.
Ken Tilly head of VHSL was already here of some issue of how to handle the scheduling for some reason and was told the Region if that was the case there would be redistricting because the LPD wasn't going to be a 4 team District and coeburn beeter look at coming back to LPD as the CD would lose 2 schools and LPD be back at 5.
Very interesting. I wonder why they would care how many teams are in the LPD. If the new playoff format is adopted, it really doesn't matter if you are in a district or not, and they have allowed 4 team districts before.
If im correct thats only gonna be for Football they use that format for right? So gotta have things more aligned and even out, also told that there looking at changing the regional lines and putting Holston and PH in Region D and C end at Washington Co line and a possibility of Riverheads and Buffalo Gap going into the distrcit with Bath Co like they were way back when that would move them from B to C.
However all that will affect things even more as far as the pairings go, supposedly to even out the Regions more
Thats correct that its just for football, but as I said, they have had a few other 4 team districts in the state before, so its odd that they are looking to change that now.

Only IV schools that "play up" are the 2 G's... once Pocy closed, ANY thought that the G-Men would come into D died. And Grundy, well... 1 school isn't going to change where the Div. split happened. The other Reg. IV schools that WERE too small were around Martinsville, and those had no effect on Reg. D, either.

The Highlands was a 4 team district at the end of its run too.
I was told by a Va. High person that PH and Holston were coming to CMD and that Honaker also wanted to be in CMD for competition sake. I don't know if all this is true can someone help me out, VHS guy said major changes were coming to all SW Va. Districts anyway. All this has scheduling deal in Wise County has all ready cost teams games for next year what a mess.
What we got told was, the secondary schools heads were there to tell them by the superintendant now is that appy, pound and st paul are being closed this may, students going to coeburn, kelly and pv. This is the original plan they had and are going back to it because the money has been granted no string attached they will look at building schools in those areas.
Tillys recommendtion because the cumberland didnt like the idea of losing two schools is coeburn go back to lpd or redistrict to two districts and solve the scheduling issues to be created by those 3 closing now.
The money issue still has a lot of issues around it. It should be with no strings attached, but the BOS is trying their best to make it that way.

So, Coeburn returning would give the LPD & the Cumberland 5 each. Makes sense, esp. with Coeburn becoming about twice as big as any other school in the Cumb.
If/When the Wise and/or DC consoladations go through then there is little doubt that Richlands will fall below the line (The 3 Tazwell teams along with Honaker and Lebanon would make a good District)Quote:

Where do Lee, Virginia High, John Battle, Gate City fit in. If consolidation occurs are the Wise County schools going to be A or AA schools wouldn't ****enson Co. be AA too, I looks like Southwest Va. is going to be in flux for a while, the VHSL could just make districts with A and AA teams in them like they do in the east.
The Wise and ****enson Co. schools would still be A. A consolidated school of CW, Haysi, and Ervinton would have 773 with this years numbers. Those numbers are going down every year though. A few of the Ervinton kids I think that live toward Sandy Ridge could end up going to Coeburn also. A combined Appy/PV school would have 765. A combined JJK/Pound school would have 724. All of those #'s are within 100 of Gate City's present enrollment of 681 and within 61 of Lee's 712. I'd say all of the three above would be A D2 and there'd be a lot of quality teams in the area.
You all are forgetting a few things. The 2 on 1 school plan without Norton coming in to join will put schools around at 1000 each. This will put the schools in AA. With Norton coming in the schools will be around 1100 each.
You all have to remember that now with the 2 on 1 Coeburn will be shut down.
I believe that the new 2 on 1 schools are going to feel what Lee felt their last few years in the Highlands. The travel time to the nearest AA schools will be a killer for them. Unless they have split A/AA districts the nearest drive (excluding their games against each other) will be to Abingdon or Richlands, with also trips to places like Marion, Carroll Co, etc. That's not even talking about if they make it to the playoffs and have a first round game in Roanoke because AA isn't going to the new playoff format yet are they?
