They were in the Kingsport paper today and everybody that played this year on any team received some sort of recognition. :o
100 spots were honored through 3 teams. When is someone going to change the format, it is ridiculous. 5 RB's were honored on 1st Team, 5 on 2nd team, and 5 honorable mention. Last time I checked you couldn't have that many in the backfield at the same time.
but we have to make everyone feel good, forget if they deserve it or not, my little timmy is just as good as little tommy! its not his fault the coaches wouldnt play him
I never pay attention to the "All District" picks, its too political. You scratch my back and i'll scratch yours.
Found this short write-up in the paper this morning. Hard to write down all who made 1st, 2nd and Honorable Mention.

I dont see why they didn't just call it first team clintwood & then had a separte all district one because its almost not fair playing against those gods.
Not to sound like a smartass, but that's what happens when you win.
And everyone else is garbage. CW & JIB aren't bad but everyone else is terrible. This is the least talent I've ever seen in the LPD. Which makes a 200 kid all district team even more laughable.Quote:

If you're talking about Clintwood they had less than 40 kids this year. I think the number was 37.
Not really true, Burton generally has 30-40 kids and they normally do quite well year in and year out. The key is getting the most out of those kid.Quote:

my roster for clintwood says 45, and probably more than that the last few years
There are 7 #'s that are always listed on the roster with retired jerseys of former players. They had 37 this year and about the same last year. I think they had around 44-45 the two years before. So you take away those 7 away from the 45 you claim and you get around the 37 I said they have.
press day picture there is 45 kids in uniform, i doubt they would go get 7 kids off the street to put on retired jerseys for a press day picture, so rather or not they ended up with 45 they started with 45 players which is still more than any other lpd team at d1 leave.. so with those numbers its no wonder they would win, which would give them more games, which would give them better stats,

Numbers dont mean a whole lot. If they only have 1 or 2 good players having 60 kids on a team doesnt mean a whole lot.
Sure did. Those 8 scrubs that come out every summer to get their picture in the paper is what put them over the edge this year. :lol: From game 1 to game 13 they had 37 players dressed or injured on the sideline. You'd think that JJK would have been much better since they had the largest roster in the district this year.Quote:

Numbers do matter. Try practicing with 14.
But numbers matter most not in the number of players, but the number of athletes. Big difference.

Most teams have rotations of 13-14 on offense and 12-15 on defense around here.
its not like PV has three different teams it plays; sure they have more numbers but its not as if all 50 get reps on the regular.
its all about number of talented players, not number of players.
I am just trying to help hondarider with his argument. He has been there first hand when there were only 13-15 at practice.
Usually, not always, but usually, a team with more players will have more athletes. I know where he is coming from, but there are exceptions to the rule. Such as many of the Appy teams that did quite well with 19 players, most of which were contributors.
I had no problem with his argument. My only problem was his numbers were wrong.
theres absolutely no doubt that depth is very important
but CW did not beat Pound just because they had more kids dressed, nor should they be punished in post season awards because CW had more kids that wanted to play than the LB

I know when it was all said and done by the end of the season J.I. Burton was down to 28 kids. Its making young kids better and playable is why burton is Competative. They play probably 23 or 24 of those kids in their rotation

To really try and gauge a program on just numbers you have to look at the jv team and the numbers on it which only consists of 8th and 9th graders. Clintwood had around 26 on their jv team and is how they are able to field strong teams year after year. This year Coeburn had 26 on the jv just 8th and 9th that all got playing time and had 3 9th graders that played varsity only so that number could have been 29. This is the first time I can remember having young numbers like this since the late 80's early 90's and makes the future look very promising.

My whole point was that if they are going to do it fair it should be the best players out of the 10 game schedule, because alot of times the best PLAYER is over looked by the person on the best TEAM, not punishing the team for their post game performance because being in the post season should be enough reward. About the numbers thing i wasn't saying that numbers is the only reason they win, but it does help when your at practice going against a good second team instead of a bad half line. helps with drills and helps the first team have a good look at what they will be seeing on gameday
so be honest, which Pound player are you ****ed off didnt get the Offensive Back of the Year award? Is it Bathis?
He was one helluva player, but I have no problems with Meade getting it. He had a great year.
and to be honest, I might have given Bathis the Back of the Year award, but its not like its this huge travesty that Meade got it.
it also helps if you have more than 3 kids lifting weights all year and committing to the program, and if you dont have parents raising hell because things dont go their way.Quote:
