Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
After a neat discussion earlier today on all-time baseball teams (all-time Yankee team, all-time Reds team, etc..) I thought it would be fun if everyone made their own all-time team for their favorite squad.
It can be any sport, and you can do all your favorite teams if you feel like it.

UVa-Wise Men's Basketball:
Zack Moore
Hobby Stuart
Barry Hamler
Nat Law
Terry Edwards
May not be a conventional team but I can't take one of them off. Sadly, nobody from our 2010 championship team is on my list. There wasn't a "great" player just a solid group of guys that each scored 12-14 a game.

Powell Valley Boy's Basketball:

Jerry Myers
George Cox

Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
itd be tough to beat an all-time yankee team, NY just has a crazy amount of big time talent
-
Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
LA Lakers:
Im going to cheat a little, but I think these guys were athletic enough to play the position:
C - Kareem Abdul-Jabaar
PF - Wilt Chamberlain
SF - Kobe Bryant
SG - Jerry West
PG - Magic Johnson
I had a tough time not moving Kobe to his normal SG, and putting James Worthy at SF, but you just cannot take the logo off the team. Also a tough call not putting Shaq on there too.
-
Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
I would switch Wilt and KAJ, I think Kareem would be better as PF than Wilt at PF.
and to be honest, i believe Kobe would beat West in game of 1-n-1. West was a helluva player, but im not sure he is as successful now with all the athleticism and length in the NBA.
but **** what a team. tis like an all-time yankee team, nobody could beat that Laker team, possibly a Boston team with Parrish, Garnett, Bird, Pierce, and Cousy but I would still favor LA
-
Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
C - Bill Russell
PF- Kevin McHale
SF- Larry Bird
SG- John Havlicek
PG- Bob Cousy
Bench
Robert Parish
Dave Cowens
Bill Walton
Nate Archibald
Tom Heinsohn
K. C. Jones
Dennis Johnson
I think the Lakers may be stronger in the starting 5, I think the Celtics bench carries them past anyone else. Note: I never liked the Celtics.

Wilt was so dang athletic. Much more so than KAJ is why I put him at the 4. Remember he was an NCAA track champion who could even matchup with todays big 4s like Dirk more than likely who play outside. I agree Kobe beats West 1 on 1. It really came down to, do I want West at 2, Kobe at 3, or Kobe at 2, Worthy at 3. I gave the edge to the logo for that situation, but I am fine with either.
Gotch, that Celtics team would be great, but the Lakers would be just a deep.
Bench:
James Worthy
George Mikan
Shaquille O'Neal
Elgin Baylor
Gail Goodrich
Jamaal Wilkes
It sure would be fun to watch will all in their prime.
-
Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
**** how did I forget Bill Russell?!?!?!?!!? ****
but any all time boston teams needs Garnett, because he is better than McHale IMO
-
Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
hell in just five on five, its not as if the Spurs would be totally outmatched.
a real game with reserves and stuff would kill them, and they aernt quite LA or BOS, but itd be tough to beat the dynamic inside duo with the outside scoring of Gervin and Robertson

I think because KAJ had a nice touch,he could be more dynamic at the 4 with Wilt being a dominant monster inside
-
Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
Celtics:
Russell
Havlicek
Bird
Sam Jones
Pierce
Pistol Pete - yes he was a celtic for a short time, so I can throw him in there.
Cousy
Ray Allen
DJ
Parish - even though he played like 50 years.
Mchale
Archibald
Those are every bit as good as any LA team.
-
Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
Braves:
C - Del Crandell
1B - Bob Horner
2B - Mark Lemke
SS - Herman Long
3B - Eddie Mathews
RF - Dale Murphy
CF - Andruw Jones
LF - Hank Aaron
Pitchers are hard to call, and I am not touching relievers:
Maddux, Smoltz, Spahn, Niekro and Glavine would be my 5 man rotation.
Had some close calls at a couple of positions. At catcher, I just couldn't put McCann yet, but probably will long term if he stays healthy. Also Joe Torre and Javy Lopez were about put there. I couldn't put someone who just played one year for the Braves, so I kicked out Rogers Hornsby, and gave the Lemmer and edge over Glenn Hubbard.
-
Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
just look at the depth LAL has.
Magic
Kobe
Worthy
KAJ
Wilt
with Shaq, Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, Mikan, etc...
too many HOFers, its nuts
-
Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
Shaq can be a Celtic too, those Celtics are chalked full of HOFers too.
-
Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
My Braves (im nowhere near as familiar as Stripes is)
C-Joe Torre
1B-Fred McGriff (CRIME DOG B*TCHES)
2B-i have no idea. Lemke is basically all I know
3B-Eddie Matthews
SS-Rabbit Maranville
LF-Dale Murphy
CF-Andruw Jones (as a young guy, best defense since Mays)
RF-Some guy named Henry, Harvey, something like that
SP-Spahn
SP-Maddux
SP-Smotlz before 99
SP-Glavine
SP-Niekro
RP-John Rocker hehh
RP-Mike Stanton
RP-John Smoltz after 99

Shaq has not spent a full season in BOS, he cant be a Celtic.

Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
Cowboys: Man this was tough in a lot of places.
C Mark Stepnoski
G Larry Allen
G Nate Newton
T Eric Williams
T Rayfield Wright
TE Jason Witten (hard to not put Novachek there0
FB Don Perkins (Moose Johnston was the man too)
RB Emmitt Smith (Tony Dorsett, Herschel Walker, Dan Reeves are pretty legendary too at that position in Big D)
QB Roger "The Dodger" Staubach
DT Bob Lilly
DT Randy White
DE Ed "Too Tall" Jones
DE Harvey Martin
MLB Lee Roy Jordan (Ken Norton JR a close 2nd)
OLB Chuck Howley
OLB DeMarcus Ware
CB Deion Sanders
CB Everson Walls
S Cliff Harris
S Mel Renfro (could have went at CB too, but I think this makes a stronger team. Hated not to put Darren Woodson in there though)

imagine your Cowgirls playing my 49ers, how awesome would that be.
Niners have a better O, Cowboys a better D.
I would put Dorsett over Emmitt on talent alone. Smith has all the accolades, but I think Dorsett was the better player.
I figured you would put Woodson at S and Renfro at CB instead of Walls, but neither is a bad choice
but the Niners DEFINITELY win if the Cowboys have no WRs!! :p
-
Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
Dang, it. Thats what happens when your trying to do 10 things at once.
Michael Irvin and Drew Pearson. Many would put Bullitt Bob out there, but I really don't think he was near as polished as Pearson.
-
Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
I might go Irvin and Alvin Harper, but Hayes would be put by many Cowgirls fans
and maybe Robert Newsome at FB, he was a BEAST for the early Cowboys
and Lee Roy Jordan was EVERY bit as good as Lambert, Butkus, Singletary, etc...
-
Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
Alvin Harper......You mean Justin Hunter Sr. right? Thats who I have compared Hunter to since day one. I am a big Harper fan, but its hard to go wrong with a #88 WR in Cowboys history, so I picked two of them.
-
Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
If Justin Hunter can be Alvin Harper, he will be one of the greatest UT skill players ever.
Harper was just incredible with his body control, leaping, and athleticism
-
Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
Harper put his high jump skills to great use in college and the NFL. I hated to see him go to Tampa Bay, and I thought Dallas never quite got that same downfield threat from Kevin Williams.
-
Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
Charles haley would have to be part of the Cowboys lineup. Lee Roy Jordan was something special and now nearly forgotten. Still though, **** Butkus was in class by himself and always will be. No player at any position has ever had the psychological and physical impact on his opponents as Butkus.
I think all 12 of my Celtic picks are in the HOF.
-
Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
how bout an all-time UT team Stripes/Lung/VOL?
ill try to do one:
QB-Peyton Manning
RB-Jamall Lewis
RB-Travis Henry
WR-Peerless Price, Joey Kent (maybe Carl Pickens?)
TE-Jason Witten
OT-Chad Clifton
OG-Bob Suffridge
C-Scott Wells
OG-Harvey Galbreath? Im blanking at the other guard
OT-Cosey Coleman
DE-Reggie White
DE-Shaun Ellis
DT-John Henderson
DT-Albert Haynesworth
OLB-Raynoch Thompson (maybe Steve Kiner)
MLB-Al Wilson
OLB-Leonard Little
DB-Jason Allen
DB-Bill Bates
DB-Eric Berry
DB-Deon Grant
-

Where do you put Haley? I cant see it.
Over Randy White? no way
Bob Lilly? not a chance
Too Tall? nah
Harvey Martin is the only place he might fit in, but its very very close.
I have Haley on the all-time 49ers team no doubt, he was a monster for them.
(well for Dallas too but theres stiffer competition on the DAL D than the SF D.)
-
Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
I thought about putting Haley on there, but dang its a flip of the coin with a few of those players. Hollywood Henderson could have been on there too.
-
Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
and you're right Gotch, they are all HOFers, but I dont put KC Jones or Tom Heinsohn in the same category of Shaq and Elgin Baylor.
Lets go by position:
C-Bill Russell v. Wilt Chamberlain (the greatest basketball debate of all time, and i cant pretend to have a definitive answer.)
I have always favored Russell, he was dominant on both sides and won more titles but he had a better team. Ill still take Russell, the best C of all time and a top 5 player ever
PF-Kareem v. McHale
Kareem, no doubt.
SF-Bird v. Worthy
Bird, no doubt
SG-Kobe v. Havlicek
Kobe
PG-Cousy v. Magic
Magic
and I would take:
Shaq, Elgin Baylor, George Mikan, Jerry West and Wilks/Goodrich over
Parrish, Archibald, Walton, KC Jones and DJ.
-
Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
My all-time Vol team to pick is hard to do. WR U made it really tough leaving off players like Tim McGee, Alvin Harper, Stanley Morgan, Joey Kent, Peerless Price and Anthony Miller. But here goes:
QB Peyton Manning
RB Jamal Lewis
RB Johnny Majors
WR Willie Gault
WR Carl Pickens
TE Jason Witten
OT Chad Clifton
OT Antone Davis
OG Harry Galbreath
OG Cosey Coleman
C Scott Wells
I wanted to leave Leonard Little off due to his off the field issues, but that just wouldn't be right.
DE Reggie White
DE Steve DeLong
DT John Henderson
DT Albert Haynesworth
OLB Leonard Little
OLB Jerod Mayo
MLB Al Wilson
CB Dale Carter
CB Terry McDaniel
S Eric Berry
S Deon Grant
-
Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
Both of you goons left Doug Atkins off the UT team. A guy who's in the college and pro football hall of fame and considered one of the 20 best NFL players ever. A guy who Mike Ditka said he was TERRIFIED of. ;) He'd be on there way before DeLong or Ellis.
-
Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
see im not as fluent in orange-speak, i knew i would leave off a couple greats.
but Jerad Mayo over Raynoch Thompson?
how do you do that popping eyes smiley?
but I dunno about 20 best NFL players ever, pretty lofty claim.

Bill Simmons' "Book of Basketball" has an entire chapter about the Chamberlain-Russell debate. He's obviously a Celtics homer, but he points are valid. Statistically, Wilt dwarfs Russell. But when it came to winning, Russell dominated Wilt. Based on desire to win, I'm not so sure I don't put Shaq in over Wilt to start. Of course, Wilt pouts then and does nothing.

Not my thoughts. That's what NFL HOF players voted. Ditka said he was terrified of him as do many other NFL legends in the videos below.

Re: Your Favorite Teams All-Time Team?
I went back and forth on DeLong versus Atkins. It was one of those tough decisions like at many spots. I really wanted to put Scott Galyon on there.
