Ebay Heads Up--Model 14's
Good looking pair of Model 14's. He wrote (transcribed?) some nice info about Model 14's in general--well worth reading. Bidding is at $405 right now, if bidding doesn't go too crazy, these would be well worth the money. Not sure if we have any members in Arizona, but I like the fact that he's capping the shipping cost at $200 for the pair even though it will cost him more than that to ship them (although, personally, I don't usually like to buy speakers that I can't listen to/test first, and drive home myself)......

Luckily he left the original woofers in there to be restored rather than installing cheap replacements like a lot of people do with blown woofers.....

foam rot and little bastards(the kind that push dustcaps in). I suspect the cones are probably junk, but if they weren't too creased/weakened the woofers could be refoamed and new dustcaps installed. With several Altecs it's worth the effort to preserve the original cones as the new ones are NOT the same, and don't sound the same. That "blue" BTW, is the correct color for those cones, different cameras and lighting can really exaggerate the hue. I've been "beating up" on my 15's a bit lately, powering them with a Nak Stasis PA-5II, while they're not quite everything the model 14's are, they are a good bit of fun never the less.

eeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwww!
Looks like someone graciously crammed a pair of RS 15's in there, what a shame.
Re: Ebay Heads Up--Model 14's
Well, so much for these being a bargain. They're now (noon on Monday) up to $1135 for the pair with a day and a half left of bidding. That's more than I paid for my first pair of Model 19's, and almost as much as I paid for my second pair. I'm almost afraid to see what these end up selling for.....

Suddenly the butchered ones on CL for 400 don't seem like such a bad deal.
Re: Ebay Heads Up--Model 14's
The seller has some other nice gear up for sale and in general seems to get a lot of bids on his listings. He does put together a nice ad for his auctions--I wonder how much of a factor that is. Personally, I would think it's the gear and not the ad (but the "quality" of his ads sure doesn't hurt). Here's another one of his auctions currently at $2560 with 34 bids (started at a penny)....

Re: Ebay Heads Up--Model 14's
Unbelievable--the Model 14's ended up selling for $1,639.99. That's several hundred dollars more than I paid for either pair of my Model 19's and about four times what I paid for my (mint) Model 14's (the seller was asking $600 in his craigslist ad for my 14's and I talked him down to $425 cash--good thing he didn't list them on ebay). I just hope they're not going to Asia--I'm not prejudiced and have nothing against Asians but I hate to see our heritage sold off overseas piece by piece....
BTW, he got $3,550 for his Mac Amp......
