Re: Hokie coaching rumors
Big Ralph as a position coach? How about OC ...... He would be an upgrade over what is there now IMO .....
Re: Hokie coaching rumors
The biggest problem VT has is at the OC position, forget asking him to retire fire his ignorant arse.
Re: Hokie coaching rumors
The biggest problem with coaching at VT is Beamer himself.
Re: Hokie coaching rumors
i agree with Beast and VOL, its the OC Stinespring, who is most at fault for VTs trouble.
VT also needs some new blood, their recruiting was very stale this year.
Not to mention the best VA player in some time, Grant, didnt even consider VT seriously
Re: Hokie coaching rumors
you've got it wrong with regards to Grant...Grant was heavy VT lean early on...then Mike London got in his ear that VT doesn't usually send LBs to the NFL due to their system...after that he dropped them on his list and let the VT staff know this, and both parties moved on...VT still recruited him obviously, but not with as much attention as Stephone Anthony or Travis Hughes
Stinespring is a bad OC, and there may be some re-shuffling, but I can't see Stinespring taking too well to being a position coach again...and we cannot afford to lose him, as he is our best recruiter
ideally Fridge would be an OC/QB coach and Stinespring would coach TEs and Tackles with much more recruiting responsibilities, but Beamer is a loyal guy and will probably stick with him
Re: Hokie coaching rumors
so he didnt consider VT realistically when it came down to deciding schools on NSD, which is what i said.
VT wasnt even in his top 2 in the end , that was OSU and UF.
Re: Hokie coaching rumors
If Beamer brings his son in, I would let Stinespring go if you get Ralph. Shane is a much better recruiter than Stinespring. And Ralph is a much better OC than Stinespring. Then you can drag in a solid recruiter to "coach TE" but mainly focus on recruiting.
Re: Hokie coaching rumors
I agree
thats what Bama does with Burton Burns. He is the "RB coach" but he has one job: recruiting, esp in the South. He is very good with RBs dont get me wrong, but his main job is recruiting
Re: Hokie coaching rumors
So why the problem with Tech's coaches? They have won 10 games for 7-8 seasons in a row ono one else has accomplished that feat. Do talk about the weak ACC cause when they joined all I heard was Tech would get theirs form FSU and Miami plus Clemson. But how may years later Tech has dominated the ACC. It is frustrting when they lose the big national televised games but do they actually have the talen of a USC, AlAbama or LSU I do beleive each of those teams were either the National champ or played in the game. Start to dismantle and see what happens. Big Ralph is a good coach but how many times did he beat TEch? I am sure he would like to have his son there but part of Tech success is the continuity of his staff.

Because winning 10 games every year in an inferior football conference and going to the same crappy bowl games for a decade is a sign of complacency. The coaching staff has brought VT to its current level but it is becoming obvious that there needs to be some changes to take that next step, if possible. VT may never recruit the same level of talent as some of the other schools and Blacksburg isn't the most desirable destination for some recruits. Therefore, to raise the bar, there needs to be coaches who are innovative (especially OC) and can maximize the talent available.
Re: Hokie coaching rumors
Tech lost to JMU. Until the AD and boosters have had enough this is as good as it will ever get for Tech. He is VT's Johnny Majors and until your Fulmer comes around get used to it. The Tech program is on the long plateau to mediocrity, funny thing about a plateau there are sudden drops on all four sides.

by your logic he didn't consider Bama which is false, and also didn't consider UVa, who was leading 2 weeks ago to sign him...just busted logic...he definitely considered VT for a long time
Re: Hokie coaching rumors
UVA never led for Grant that late, thats not true at all. It was all tOSU late, with UNC making a late charge. UF was slightly in it too. thats common knowledge. Maybe your inside sources are telling you wrong. UVA was never a leader for Grant late, it had been OSU for a long time now.
Who cares who they considered two years ago? He never considered VT when it came down to NSD. Thats all that matters and that was my point. VT, the premier school in VA, was not seriously considered on NSD by the best player in VA. Are those not facts?
UVA/VT might have been leaders before he got offers from OSU, UF, Bama, etc...
He didnt even take his official til a week before NSD yet UVA was a leader two weeks before it? hmm....
EDIT-maybe you mean a week from today, or this week, but NSD was just wednesday and his offical wasnt until like 12-14 days ago. And even after his official UVA wasnt the leader, at that point it was OSU or bust.
No, Bama was NOT in on Grant in the last little bit, never really was. He knew how many big time LBs Bama has on the roster and was worried about the travel and playing time.
Re: Hokie coaching rumors
it is true, wrt to UVa...I know your sources are ESPN or rivals or whatever website, but the fact is he was leaning towards UVa and a lot of the people on his inner circle wanted either VT or UVa
as a matter of fact UNC came in late and almost stole him, but you've conveniently left them out as well...guess ESPN didn't notify everyone of that one
the kid was all over the place...to say he only considered OSU and UF is laughable...and to say the best player in the state of VA didn't consider VT is a dumb argument as well...every single kid in America only considers one school when they sign, does that mean it's the only school they ever seriously considered, since they've eliminated everyone else at that point
but have fun with your argument...

oh my, you and your sources again. to assume that you are the only person with sources is hilarious.
did your sources tell you he was going to OSU? Since almost everybody knew it before hand, surely you knew that.
and no, he was not leaning UVA late, thats simply not true dude. like I said, everybody has sources, and mine was very close to GRANT HIMSELF. I didnt bother with it much, I knew he was not Bama so I didnt care too much. But I knew that it was gonna be OSU for at least a week before NSD.
re-read my post sports knowledge wizard, I mentioned UNC several times. I rushed to post it initially and went back and edited it.
If he was considering VT late, why did NO ONE report that at all? VT has been out of it for a while, I figured that was common knowledge.
have fun believing that you are the only person on the planet that knows people.

Biggin, I actually have to back D up on this one. Grant, at one time, really favored VT. Then came ML to UVA and his Mama fell in love with him so to speak. If she had had her way CG would be a Hoo right now. ML is the biggest reason CG dropped VT from consideration several months ago. UVA, until recently, was right up there for Grant because that's what CG's mom wanted. UNC tried to get in late and actually did a decent job, UNC/UVA just didn't have what CG wanted in the end and he disappointed Mama and I'm glad he did. But UVA was very confident they were getting him right up to the end FWIW and I would never count Cheatin Butch out of it for any recruit. I seriously believe he is one of the most crooked in CFB.
Re: Hokie coaching rumors
Biggin.....please.....I was sitting there and enjoying myself with the back and forth on Hokie coaching rumors and told myself to not get involved....but really....premiere college in the state.....I give Tech its due when it comes to football but other than one year with Vick Tech has not exceeded expectations for their program. Instead they have the tendency to have always found a way to be below the expectations. This year they werent the premiere program in the state I would have to give that to a couple of other institutions. Tech was dam* lucky they didnt have two or three other losses this year. Go back and think about it.....God forbid the program slips or all these wagon fans will be running out of Blacksburg and those parking lots will become big pastures like they were before Beamer

Yall still arent getting what im saying. I have little doubts that VT was a leader for him early, but they were nowhere to be found when it was time to make a decision, so how can you say they were really in on him??
And Grant didnt get offers from the big schools til during his senior year, after VT, UVA, WVU, etc.. had already offered. He didnt have the OSU, UF, Bama, offers before his senior year. Thats what I was saying. That when the real big dogs, OSU particularly, came calling Grant was really pumped and they jumped out in the lead.
His family did want UVA, but when it came down to it they werent the leader a week before NSD, thats just simply not true. OSU was, and it has been for a while now. The family didnt hate OSU because its closer than UF, Bama, etc..
