Going to the SB meeting tonight and give us a rundown of Wise county's continuing saga.
I think I'd rather have a colonoscopy.
I'm here, with marlene and JH on both sides of me :)
Well it was the typical meeting, adults acting like children and protest from the same bunch - and I'll say any meeting you watch on TV does not give justice to how rude those people are. I got up and spoke, made a few friends with what I said and a whole lot of enemies.
Did they decide on anything? On Channel 5 news just now, they said something about moving Appalachia into Powell Valley and Pound into Kelly, but said they hadn't voted on it yet. Didn't understand if they hadn't voted on it tonight or if they postponed the vote until the next meeting.
There was no vote tonight. There will be a meeting sometime next week, they couldn't even decide on that, but there will be. Not even sure there will be a vote then either, from what I gathered it was just to go over the old plans and try to pick one.
LOL hold on there surly you can't just jump in there and vote for what you said you said you would do if this situation happened 1st they much have a study on the effect of another vote or some such non-since LOL
I think WC has just made the biggest F-up since ****enson County when they decided to buy there water back from Buchananon Co because no one wanted to build a treatment plant.
That's what was said by Perry. He stated that since it looks like there's going to be no funding for the 2 on 1, they'll have to go back to look at the other plans - that's what I got from it, he may have meant just going back and tweaking those other proposals and then try again. Hutchinson killed me, he said they need to stop trying to stop each other from progressing, but then says he'll continue to throw wrenches into plans going forward. I'll have even more to say to him next week.
Also Cornett was approved to finish out the one year left in that governors school position...and that was put forth by Mr. Bates. While he was trying to explain everything, the idiots in the crowd kept laughing and making their dumb comments, then it was revealed about what he was trying to do and they shut up real quick. I hope they felt like the children they are.
It's on right now.
I think Ted Thompson just got his head delivered to him on a platter by Flanary and Hutchinson. Now the back-door deals are starting to show up now.
Not really, that was blown up more than what it really was, hutchinson has no room to talk anyway.
Is that you R13?
Yup, the short **** with brown hair? Yes.
I thought your comment to Mark H. was epic..
hahaha wow
all those gangs in wise county hahah
And if you would have had something to say, you would have said it, grow some balls and get back to me. I'll be back every meeting, your friends immature yelling out and taunting doesn't intimidate everyone. And I ran to the other side of the room? I went to the next open seat, which the whole back row was empty and I'm not sitting in the middle of abunch of children and going through 10 people to get back to my seat. I sat right behind Mr. genius UVA professor and right in front of the infamous Harold Grear...nice try. Not sitting by why you fools act like you're speaking for us all, I'll be there next week, I'll be there March 3rd and every meeting possible. I'm really tired of it, these meetings won't be as much as an anti-consolidation circle jerk anymore.
And if someone has something they want to be said, as in some arguments(I've seen some great ones on here), I could use it. Like I said, I'll be at these and speaking from now on...sat back and watched this train wreck way too long.
Like I said boy, ran to the other side ! INTIMIDATED ! I'm at every meeting and voice my thoughts. Don't get on here and act like your a bad ass at these meetings when you are totally irrelevant ! Be sure to come we need a good laugh ! By the way, I thought you said 2 on 1 was a done deal so get over it ! SURPRISE ! Get ya a big drink of that Perry kol-aid before you respond !
Be sure you let me know who you are and I'll sit beside you, there's no intimidating, if you're one of the speakers I know good and well what kind of intellect I'm dealing with. Look at you and your friends, a complete laughing stock of the county, do you know how seriously you're taken? Zip, zero, notta. There's some exceptions, but most of you all are rude, immature, children...and I'll make it a point to express all of that next week, I didn't know how bad it really was until I went the other night, of course you're following example from the three stooges. How big of an ass did you all feel like when Mr. Bates pushed for Cornett to get her other position back after you all yelled out constantly and mocked him? Shut you all up real quick. We'll see how irrelevant it is when I'm a regular dishing it right back meeting after meeting.
Special LPD FORUM Announcement;
With just a few short statements, I was able to show all forum members and R13 himself how he can be just as childish, rude, immature and a laughing stock as Hutch, Cantrell, and Cornett. R you got to be careful or my little pot will call himself black.
But really, if not careful we can let our emotions get carried away. I respect your opinion as much as anyones and you are entitled to voice it . We can agree to disagree and do such in a civil manner. If I made ya mad I'm sorry and I love ya man !
I'm really a nice guy and maybe we can meet at the next meeting. You never know I might be able to change your way of thinking.
BAMA MAN just backpedaled faster than Javier Arenas, Dre Kirkpatrick, and Demarcus Milliner combined.
You went from claiming you intimidated R13, to dogging him out for having an emotional response...nevermind that you tried to evoke one by said "intimidation". Then you get called on it and you crawl back into a shell.
Things like that exchange above are why anti-consolidation folks are not taken seriously by anyone with the ability to think.
Well, on that note, I talked to a SB member tonight. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday at 6 pm. They have 2 options on the table to talk about, but he would not say which ones they were. He kinda gave an indication that one of those was one that would get the BOS completely on board with the consolidation. I tried to get him to throw a couple of hints out to me, but he wouldn't bite.
Anyway, this stuff has become so childish on both sides that it just isn't funny anymore. The one thing that we(citizens) do agree on with an overwhelming majority is that something has to be done. This guy is probably the most sound and most sincere person on either board, bar none.
I
I do think that both of these plans will keep a school in the southern end of the county(Big Stone Gap) which would satisfy most everyone involved. Then again, I could be wrong, too.
When all this is said and done, I think that come November, the citizens of Wise county will speak loudly with their votes and vote most of these knuckleheads on both sides of the consolidation debate out of office. A new day is coming, Wise county. Be ready for it. I do know that most of the level-headed citizen of BSG are tired of Betty Cornett and Ted Thompson. I also think that St. Paul will elect someone other than Greear. As far as the BOS, well, I look for Rivers, Meador, Shortt, and possibly Kilgore to be gone. This is dependent on whether Kilgore will agree to let the redistricting to continue and whether she is up for re-election. I don't remember when she was elected.
That's some good company to back pedal with. I don't intimidate no one and don't try to. Was not dogging r, just showed him how easy it was for someone even himself to let emotions overtake civility. As you get older you will understand grasshopper. I'd like to see the shell that would hold me ! I do think the anti-consolidation folks are taken seriously, look where we are now and watch what happens in Nov. Love ya Cane, you a BAMA fan ? By the way, you guys can't get under my skin, I look at the source. Love ya ! Peace Out !
Someone said years ago the county would never reach an agreement and we should just ride this out till the money forced everybody's hand. Guess we should have listened.

Don't know if it's been posted on here, but great piece on some options of what could be done with the buildings.. Thinking about expressing my idea of what we could do with one at the meeting next wednesday.
The response to the idea of the old buildings being turned into professional buildings is why cant we just renovate them and keep them. I see their complaint but again I am a firm believer in Appy/Pound being a dead town. I'm not sure what most people there are afraid of admitting but there is to much pride at stake for them to say your right, our town is dead. The only thing keeping Pound/Appy poppin is the schools... which is extremely sad.
And that whole argument is a weak one though. We're possibly talking about private companies coming in and doing this, they have plush funds if it came down to it, the school budget doesn't have that. And we also can't renovate 10 years from now either and possibly end up in a drawn out struggle to get this.
Most companies wouldn't do the total renovation with their own funds. The county would have to offer some incentives for them to renovate. That is a given fact. Every business that hase move in to this area has had some type of monetary incentive to move in. Sykes and Crutchfield are prime examples. The building were not built with their funds 100%. Walmart got incentinves when they built. Even Food City has gotten incentives to build where they built. The power plant, our savior(LOL), even got huge incentives to build where they built.(I still have my doubts about them "powering up")
The point I am trying to make is this. What incentives is Wise county willing to give these businesses to move here and at what cost? Our current make up of the board of stupidvisors is not capable of making a sound judgement on what to do with these buildings. These school properties will revert to county ownership after consolidation.
Finally, I have always felt consolidation should happen. It would be a huge positve for our county. The age and condition of the buildings should only be considered when making the decision as to where and whom to consolidate. Maybe some of them could be renovated (by this, I mean extensive) at a much lower price than building a new school. If this is not feasible, then build a new building. But choose your location wisely. 2-1 is just not a viable alternative for this county and its geological layout.
Would be far easier to renovate them when you have more than 2 months to do it in (Summer if the schools are open) all the 50's era schools still have asbestos in the tiles and wall which (supposedly) is not a problem so long as no construction stirs it up......I know I would not want my kid exposed to that kind of stuff but that is just me
Honistly I think if he were intimadated he would not have goten up to speak that being said only a fool would willingly sit with the lynch mob that makes up the majorty of the anti-consoladation crowd at most of these meetings.........IMHO R13 is probably irrelevent as the sides no longer seem to be lisning to each other or anyone else however you have to admit that his argument what MUCH better than the guys who claimed that Math hurt his head and did not understand financing and %s but did know that a good Appy schooling was all anyone really needed (this from the same group of folks that sugested that they elemanate the school Libery and that since everyone is not going to collage there is no reason to give the kids an opertunity at higher level classes)
As for the Nov election shaking this up I doubt it will ... the anti-group would vote for Hitler if he promised to keep there schools open and the pro group wants new schools and that is not going to change reguardless of who gets voted in or out.......What will happen is barring enacting the Basham plan you will see programs at the schools cut due to lack of funds
We can't get anything other than convicts and call centers. Folks complain about the wiring and phones in the schools and then talk about a business moving into the same buildings? It is too bad that we will support folks that won't work, pay for usless wars( seen the one about the guy that wanted out of Iraq, so he admitted lying about the bio weapons ?) and not fund a school for each town. The schools will stay empty , just figure out what we can pay for. Oh, and the dual enrollment - don't use the colleges, people can't get their kids there. Wonder if they think the county should run buses for college?
Crutchfield has never built a facility in Wise County. Previously existing structures have been used.
The lady that wanted to cut the lib has a girl in UT finishing up- the school system hasn't spent any money on the lib in....well since the 70s. You guys ***** about internet and still want to fund written text? The half-assed newspaper coverage wanted a story, they were trying to suggest ideas that would save the county MILLIONS, cause the plans to fix the schools ALL included a "control room" to watch the people come in the schools. Half of the money would have been spent on crap for social services and space for things besides classes.
