looking from St Pauls point of view, the SB was going to keep SP open under the 2 on 1 plan. what has changed? Sure the 2on1 plan there would have been 3 schools in the county and under this plan there would be 4 if they kept St Paul open but according to numbers thrown around, St Paul makes theirbottom line and doesn't cost the county anything to run. So why is it important now to close down a school that was ok to keep open just months ago?
That plan only worked if the other parts of the plan were fulfilled, that plan only kept SP open as a K-12, the numbers don't work in every scenario/plan that keeps SP open. They really screwed themselves anyway, as did the other two towns that an anti-consolidation. Really ridiculous they put this money aside to sue the board, which will cost the rest of the county who knows how much.

Actually it was Perry who originally said there was no need to close St. Paul because there was little or no cost involved. Would have cost more money to bus them.
I don't rem. reading anyo of that in any stories online, so don't know when (if) he said it.
I think that is what he said to justify leaving SP open while closing Appy and Pound in the 2on1 plan
I didn't think Wise had control of the coal severance tax. I can't find the exact figures, but several years ago, the smaller schools cost more per child to run and St Paul had the most "out of county" students. The pro group were trying to get the out of county folks to the point they had to pay for their kids coming to Wise Co. That fell apart because taking the extra kids out of the mix changed the figures so much.Quote:

They're the first to ***** about losing the school even though what would it effect? Like the other two towns, the school would just be 10 minutes away, since almost half of their 150 kids live in Russell co..you'd think a tiny drive like that wouldn't mean much. God knows that fourlane will surely shut down now since there's just no reason to go past Coeburn in any direction towards castlewood or Lebanon, no no, they might as well pack it in too.
And if that bogus lawsuit wasn't enough, it seems they now want Nolan Kilgore removed from office because he doesn't do what they want.

If they want to keep a high school so badly they should also be suing Russell County to get them to build a school on that side of town.
How would you go about getting a petition started? I might be interested in getting one together in SUPPORT of Mr. Kilgore.

Also saw an online Coalfield story - says the VHSL will discuss at their 5/5 meeting whether to allow immediate eligibility for those out-of-county kids who transfer to the school they were supposed to be at anyway.

I think that's exactly right, but all these lawsuits are a total waste of county funds. That should be correct. The SB should have one on retainer. In Scott County the current super is also the lawyer on retainer. Of course sinced he is stepping down as super only 6 months in, one of them he says is health issues, he isn't giving up the lawyer gig....
