Help Desk doesn't get any response.
I was the only one that I can see that lost all of their profile info when we were changed over to this board.
Help desk said they couldn't help me...I was persistent,, one of the moderators told me to leave it alone,, nothing could be done... very strange that I was singled out..
Little things keep building up, and b/f long no one is interested in posting or even reading this forum.
This is just like a business,, as far as I am concerned... hang with it,, or turn it over to someone else,,, and you can see what someone else has done for the board.
And as soon as I post this,, I will have to log back on.... it sure gets old..and nothing is ever done about it....
Counts... it has never been this dead. Very rare for a day to go by and not a single post in the sports side of the forum. It has happened multiple times thus far.
I've been talking back and forth with Rock on this, and expect a move within the next month or 2. We are taking all suggestions seriously at this point as far as a move to another platform is concerned. We're hoping to get this done in the Summer months so the LPD Forum as it will be in the future will be fully up and operational come the Fall football season.
We are looking to make a move in earnest and we'll work as quickly as we can to find a suitable home for this place. We may or may not take all the historical user names and the message database with us, depending upon the choices in front of us...so be warned that this may be a place where we'll all have to sign back up and drum up membership via word-of-mouth all over again. I'm thinking about making a Facebook group to get users on and keep folks updated as to the search for a new site and to keep everyone in the loop with a link when we do have a new home so we don't have folks searching high & low for us like we did with the latest move to HostBoard.
When I know more, I'll post more. This is in the VERY EARLY stages right now.
like I said in a previous post, I found out about this place because of it being talked about on Friday night radio broadcast during the games. if we could find someone to get the word out during games that would have to help
dude please dont make us lose our usernames haha, it took me like two years of fighting to get Biggin back and I dont wanna lose it now. I dont wanna have to bring Bama_Man or Jesus out of retirement. Ive been posting here for a decade now, as has a lot of the older guys. We cant let a decade of work just disappear.
but this place is super dead now, nobody ever posts. Ive been posting here since I was in the 8th grade, Ive grew up in front of yalls eyes. Its sad to see this once great forum go thru such a rough spot. Ill never forget some of the craziness on here.
China cabinet guy (who challenged me to a fight at the Park in BSG but never showed), he who shall not be named, the very first Islam Wars between Freddy and myself, the drama with HWSNBN, R13 (or Burton13 hah)'s explosion on here, the weedeater/pac-man era, etc... Im sure theres a ton more im missing.
but we cant let this place die. There are too many good posters who know a **** ton about sports for this place just to die. Weve lost quite a few but there are still some here. Lung still lurks, PVFAN, CC, hell even mega lurks. We need to get this place rocking again.
Nobody post probly cause its over modded. Post about a news caster losing his job and you get cussed in a pm for not putting it in political. A thread about osama getting killed is ok in general. Go figure. Posting should be simpler
Still here since Jim's original board . Seldom post but check in regularly . More of a way to keep up with the happenings back home . We have had some real characters on here during those years , the Good , the Bad and the Ugly !
I have been around since the black and green days... granted i was young then. I have had my fair share of experiences here. My other name got lost in the transfer so this was my extra name. The forum has def. died out here as of lately. I usually check this thing daily but rarely post.
If you want to moderate somewhere else and then have people like you second-guess every move you make, then be my guest. I'll take heed to the above only after you do that. It sucks. Were it not for the other 99% of posters on here who don't complain and try to understand how crazy things are here, I'd have left a long time ago.
I'd be willing to put up a poll to see what moniker people would give the "news caster" you called Glenn Beck. Either "news caster", as you put it, or political pundit/entertainer--as he's been self-described and as most I'd wager would call him. Thusly...that got moved to politics. It was my judgement call to moderate it since we had a politics board, and I never backed down from it. Only you, seemingly, had an issue with that. I didn't get a single PM or message from anyone else with a problem with that.
I let the Bin Laden thread go because of it's national significance to everyone. That was the only Bin Laden thread created. Had we had 10 million pop up and they started getting out of hand politically, I would have had to do more. And, once again, it seems only you had an issue with how I handled that...no PM's saying "move the Bin Laden thread elsewhere, please".
Let's open up the conversation--Everyone else not named MikeJones or CoeburnCane: if you have a problem with the way I handled either situation above, then speak up. It will either a) be a learning time for me as a mod and validate MJ's complaint, or b) settle MJ's beef with me. Either way, I'd like to have that resolved instead of having stuff thrown back in my face a month after the fact.
I'm still here everyday. It's just the ****season and not much to talk about. This place isn't as dead as everyone says. The other day when Rocky made this post I looked at the main page and there were over 30 people viewing at that time. On Fall Friday nights there are still over 100 on about 10-11 pm. When this umpteenth version of hostboard came up a problem arose that wasn't a problem with the old board. It was opened to the public and anyone can read. The last format you had to be a registered user to read which made it easier for someone who didn't intend to post to end up posting anyway.
Regardless, Hostboard is a huge pile of dog**** and I hope they rot in hell. Can't wait till I never have to visit a hostboard site again. My only suggestion is that when the transition takes place send a mass email, put a link on the other forums (G-Man's, the CD, and the CMD site), and leave the link to this forum open for a month or so with a redirect link to the new site.
MJ, I don't have any issue with you so please don't think I mean this in any negative way possible. If you want a completely unmoderated forum to post on try Topix. Browse that steaming pile of sheet for a while and you'll click back to this place so fast you'll break your mouse. If a forum is going to be worth anything it has to be moderated. When you're just a member it's over moderated and when you're a mod it's not moderated enough. I've been on both sides (I've modded at a few sites other than this one) so I totally know what I'm talking about. It's not as bad as it seems. And if it is, it's only a web forum.
Cane, I'd like to throw my name in the hat (if there is one....LoL) of people who'd be willing to help any way they can. I could help with the FB page as I'm gonna get a data account for my iPad ASAP. Or I can help in any other way possible. Just let me know if you need anything.
SBG I don't have any issue with you. I have no clue where you got I wanted a unmodded forum. Consistency would be nice tho.
Cane Saying I second guess every move you make is absurd. But cussing a poster in pm and then not being consistent with what riled you up is ridiculous. You act like this is the most stressful job in the world. Only one Glenn beck thread and the Osama got way more political. Sound like you jump when someone sends you a PM telling you what to do.
So your really gonna say you are correct in cussing posters?
I've already read the Sent PM's in my saved messages and know what's there, but go ahead and post my responses (undoctored, please). I want to see you slit your own throat here, b/c if you're going to get mad over "blue he||" and "pi$$ed" being used once apiece in the past about 10 PM's between you and I on my part, then you need to get over yourself and take some life inventory.
Full disclosure on this isn't going to work well for you if you keep going down this path of accusing me of verbally abusing you and throwing PM's laced with profanity your way...b/c that's not what happened.
Obviously, this is all my opinion, but here goes:
The LPD Forum has lost its value over the years. Like most long time posters here, I believe the problems with hostboard are the main culprit but hostobard is not totally to blame. I really feel part of the problem is the advanced social media world we live in. This is not major college athletics where people around the globe have inside knowledge. This is small time high school athletics, those that have information know each other. If something is going on in Coeburn that I want to know about, I pick up the phone and call Cane. With the political games that go on in this area nobody wants to have their name tied to any "sensitive" information in print form online (including me). We (those of us who have been here forever and have knowledge) all know each other and I can go to my phone now and track down a phone number for a poster on this board in every community that can tell me what exactly is going on. Facebook is increasingly being used as a major tool as well, all of us are friends on there and information is passed freely back and forth via facebook chat and inbox messages. Finally, to me the biggest blow came when the sanctity of the old timer's club was broken. I wouldn't post anything here for the public to read now that is somewhat hairy and I imagine others feel the same.
So your saying you sending a pm asking why the hell did you do so and so isn't cussing them? I'm sure you would feel different if you heard a coach or another adult saying that to your kids.
Just be consistent how hard is that. I think it all should be in general unless its str8 hard core politics. But you wanna ***** and cuss about Glenn beck but you let other threads go. Be consistent. Its not like your making life or death decisions. This forum did fine without the sub forums and the 6+ mos waiting list to even get in one.
Let me get this str8? You are saying that it is ok for a mod to cuss a poster because they didn't post where you thought they should? This forum Is dying bro. Maybe you should listen to folks.
****ed
Noticed when I spelled P1ssed Correctly it edited it. Hum?
You're not a child are you? I thought I was speaking to an adult, and it would be OK to use adult language, and keep it at an absolute minimum, especially if it's not on open board, but in PM's which are unmoderated. You used a curse word or two as well...but you don't see me freaking out about that.
You have to moderate on a case by case basis--SBG understands this and has moderated/does moderate elsewhere. If you were a mod anywhere, you'd understand the judgement calls involved. I think in both cases, I was pretty fair. And I've not seen someone post otherwise. Before you judge what I'm doing and how I'm doing it, put yourself in my shoes.Quote:

In PM's that are unmoderated and between two (alleged) adults...I don't see a problem with a cuss word or two. The "blue he||" thing wasn't "cussing you", it was more exclamatory to show how incredulous I was that you posted that Glenn Beck thread on the Non Sports board. It's not like I told you to go to hades. Also, the "pi$$ed" I used in one PM was not cussing you at all--it was describing how I didn't want other posters to be once the Glenn Beck thread got them into a major political discussion on the Non-Sports board.Quote:

I think we hear 100000x worse at the basketball courts and football/baseball fields during LPD games in the crowd.
I didn't do anything to you personally. You're acting like a indignant martyr for nothing. I think we're done here, but if you want to go on embarrassing yourself, be my guest.
Right--b/c we have a language filter. That I set up. Not that this little piece of information makes a difference to you.
Also notice that PM's are unmoderated, and people can say what they want. I only spelled what what I said in PM's on here b/c I KNEW they'd be edited b/c I set up the daggone filter! And you claimed I cussed you SO BAD...so I went around the filter to let everyone know what I said that was so terrible to cause you so much anguish and that makes me such a bad person.
I'll let others figure out what to think for themselves. I'm not worried about it. If you want to continue hand-wringing over it, go ahead, but it's silly of you to do and I'm done with it.
no......... whats wrong with this forum is that EVERYONE, myself included thinks they need to turn everything into a ****ing contest, that needs to stop.
Where did I say we were children? Way to avoid the question and make up something. That's great. I have modded and its not as hard as you would like to make it out. Speaking of making ones self out to be a martyr. If i decided to move a thread it would move it and just be like hey man I thought your thread may turn political so I move it just to be on the safe side. Or something like that. It would not have upset me so bad I had to ask them why the hell they posted so and so. If it bothered me that bad I would take some time off.
I'm glad you finally cleared up the fact that you think it's OK to cuss a poster if it's only a few words.
I love how you say you didn't cuss but you setup the filter that filters out some of the words you used. Your **** right I cussed back. You cuss me that's gonna happen. Don't see me beating around the bush and making post after post of denying it and trying to use big words to make me feel smart.
Oh yeh you do realize i never mentioned your name in my original post. Be consistent
Once it again where did you get the caused me so much anguish part. You just make up stuff to suit you. This is a thread about the forum dying. I posted my thoughts on it and your panties get wadded.
This thread is one of the reasons why people have left. It gets turned into bickering ****ing contests quite often like Rocky said. I love an internet flame war as much as anybody, but we need to be able to have cordial, intelligent discussions as well as flame wars but now we are lacking any intelligent discussion reallly, especially on the sports side.
I definitely agree with Biggin on this. There's no need for all the constant bickering and arguing. I mean for Christ's sake, can we not all get along for once on here?
I said I would never post here again but if the format/host is changed I would definately be back. I still come here to read but never post. I guess this is my first post since December. Have lost a lot of family members the past year and my nerves have been hell thus the ****ing contests Rocky mentioned here have not helped.
When I think about the black and green board, I can't help but smile. I would love for the forum to be like that again. Hostboard is mostly at fault for this. As much as I hate to say it, part of it I believe has to do with the district not being as strong as it once was in the big three sports, particularly football. Hopefully that will change if they do combine the schools.
I'd hate to see the board die, or not be renewed, especially since I don't live in Wise anymore. I still talk to people at home, but most of my close friends from high school don't live there either. And it's great to get a different perspective from everyone who contributes here.
I think if we get a new host and advertise a little then the boards popularity will grow once again.
Personally I think the board stopped losing some interest when we separated the religion and political board from the non sports part of the board. Sure it was a small hassle to filter through the non sports forum to get to threads not about politics/religion but not something that really was that bad. Once you separate the politics/religious board from non sports posters lose interest because they have to get access to it to look at it. If a post gets moved you have to wait a day or two just to get back to your thread. I'm all for the old timers forum and men's/women's forum bring separate though.
The board could also loosen up on the moderation but that is just my personal opinion. It's a message board not church.
i dont understand all of the "overmodded" comments. ON the S&W forum you can NOT link to any outside sites, no political talk AT ALL, almost no cuss words allowed, no heated arguments, no bumping threads AT ALL unless in a selling post. this is the MOST loosely modded forum I have ever seen.
That's true rocky. But even at that we as users have to understand there are still rules. If something is political or sexual in nature, even the slightest bit, it shouldn't be in the open forums. I've been on forums that would have shut down and removed this thread a long time ago. I've been on forums that would ban users for even the slightest bit of disrespect toward the mods. And on one or two of those I was a mod and had to enforce the rules and ban people and lock threads for reasons I felt were petty but the rules were stated and had to be followed. In the end we just need to live and let live. After all, it's just a web forum. ;)
If anything, this site doesn't have enough moderation.
I've moderated on the nets largest MMA forum. In fact I still have mod powers there but never use them, the place is teeming with mods anyway.
I've referred to this forum (the LPD forum) in the past as "quaint", I didn't mean that really in a negative way, just that compared to what I'm use to it is much tamer. There really isn't too much here that is shocking so to say. In my opinion people here behave very well, again that's compared to what I'm use to.
In fact when I first started posting here it was because of a huge blow-up on the other forum which led to threats by the attorney for a controversial instructor to file suit against myself and three other much better known members of that forum including Joe Rogan. I was basically laying low ;) but still wanted somewhere to waste.....I mean spend some time.
I do understand first hand just how difficult it can be to moderate a forum. I once deleted a thread that resulted in members locating the home phone number of the forum owner and calling him at home, repeatedly. This of course in turn resulted in me getting a frantic email from him wanting to know what the heck was going on.
I tend to agree with the obviously unpopular view that this forum is slightly over moderated, BUT that is just my opinion and it really isn't any of my business either. On top of that it is based on my experience moderating at a truly enormous forum that by design lets poster have a pretty free reign. I guess I've seen things stay fairly within reason there without heavy moderation and that's the reason I feel the way I do. On the other hand no moderation is not an option and somebody has to do it and they have to do it using some sort of guidelines, and there you have it, take it or leave it.
I think in defense of another poster on this thread he may feel that moderation hasn't been applied with a completely even hand. I have no opinion on this case in specific. I can address that from my personal experience though. After the whole issue of the lawsuit blew over I was the most active moderator on a side from there that included many of the students of the instructor who had his lawyer threaten to sue me. Despite that I always tried to be completely even-hand towards their posts and opinions and never to side with those who disagreed with them. This was admittedly hard to do but I think I did a good job of it and now several of his students and supporters defend me when the issue still rises up.
I do hope the place picks back up soon. I don't find myself with too much time anymore is the main reason I'm not around very often.
Lots of times, it's an either/or thing here. Either I over-moderate for some, or I under-moderate for others. To be honest, I cannot wait until we get a new board just for the reason that the rest of the mods can have the tools needed to take action on things as it relates to membership bans/warnings instead of it all being me. That, along with my own opinions that I rarely censor content-wise, has caused my name to become MUD in a lot of people's eyes. Not only do they disagree with what I have to say, but I'm the guy who's got the ban-stick...so even if I've never banned them, I'm the guy who comes across bad.
It sucks. We've lost membership b/c of folks thinking we're over-moderated, and just as many b/c we're under-moderated...both opinions in their eyes. I think Gotch/SBG and others that have modded can speak to this--you try to be as even-handed as possible, but every situation is different and the landscape for each situation is different. You have to look at each one individually and make the best decision you can. And most of those are tough calls...and when you're the one having to make the tough calls, you're going to upset folks. It's inevitable. You CANNOT make everyone happy all the time.
That being said--no matter what anyone's beefs with me are...just know I'm doing the best I can. And as per the sticky thread w/the Facebook group, myself and the rest of the mods are actively looking for a new home for this place that will run faster & better, and ultimately--I plan on having a less hands-on approach and letting the rest of the mods do what they think is best. Now--will that mean the Wild West again like it was when we first came to HostBoard? No. One goal is to have a listed set of rules and put those in from the start so everyone knows where they stand, and also the mod tools so those rules can be enforced.
We've got a good vision here. No matter what you think of me personally or how peeved you are at the way I handle arugments/discussions on here...we're trying to get things fixed up. I want more than anything to get things back to the way it used to be and have a place we can all enjoy. I hope we can share that much in common moving forward.
Do you mean that you're the only one who has working moderator tools right now? That would suck! That would really be a tough situation to be in. The best moderating (In my opinion) is done low keyed and with as much anonymity as possible. I had to learn that the hard way.
As far as banning rights, yes. It's been that way for a long while now. And there's been periods here & there where the banning tools did not work. For the longest time, there was no way for the other mods to edit/move/delete other posts or threads. There are some that can do that now, but I end up doing more of it than most. steer and Stripes have done some of that as well, but not a lot at all. And a lot of that is due to a) their tools not working and b) the tools, when available, either are confusing as hades to work with or don't work the way they should.
If people didn't know that and thought I was just ruling things with an iron fist for carps & giggles...well, now ya know.
