Obviously used for some kind of Band PA or similar as heres another pair in Chi-town.So it would seem that it isn't that uncommon as both have the same drivers/horns too.
Altec 1505 Horns 291-16B Drivers 30166 Throats 421-8H - eBay (item 190544274709 end time Jun-22-11 19:00:30 PDT)
It does look weird having those huge horns on those (relatively) small bass cabs--but who knows, they could sound phenomenal. I wonder if the owner has been bi-amping them? There's no crossover included that I can see (same for the pair in Chicago that Altec Best posted). They're at $71 now with no reserve--could be a real bargain but I have a feeling they'll get a lot of bids.....
Notice the speakers are not that far apart...probably sold by the same dealer.
Not a common combo, likely just the dealer in that area...
I'd love to have the 1505s and the 291s, but imagine they will go for $$$$
I suspect I'm going to be a loner on this........ I really only wanted the 816 cabinets. I would have played with horns a bit and then put them up for sale...... hopefully making a profit.
Wow, I didn't realize they went that high!Quote:

FWIW, they're the easiest "horn" enclosure to build on your own, all straight cuts, no angles or funky curves.Quote:

A lot of folks seem to think they need a table saw, i never really got that concept. Unless they're talking about a $40K+ cabinet shop saw with an air/powered table, you can make straighter more consistent cuts using a good hand held circular saw and straight edge with clamps. The only thing i used a table saw for when we built eight 816's years ago was to kerf the back of all the horn flares to ensure they'd bend smoothly.
Just my .02 of course.........................
They're at $1175 with three hours left to go.....
I"m betting $2600
EDIT: Oh, I missed that by $1000. It jumped way up in the last 3 seconds.
Wow! $3,530.00!
