A coworker of mine from BSG was telling me last week that Travis was wanting to have someone be on his staff, but the central office turned it down because they are not employed by the schools system. Not sure if that is what this is or not.
I saw a coach in Wal Mart last night and was talking to him about assistant coaches (I had no idea about Andrew Mays getting a job); anyway, according to the coach, you could get anybody you wanted as long as they were not paid. FWIW, I think it's ridiculous that you have to be a county employee to coach. Seems like to me we are putting our kids in a box in terms of what coaches they have; would Robin Dotson be a bad coach if he sold insurance in the day as opposed to teaching?
Its actually a common thing among the schools systems. If a teacher wants a teaching position, they are generally given the chance instead of someone not currently employed by the system. If there isn't a teacher wanting a position, then they are okay to proceed with hiring outside people. Scott County has had some scrutiny over this issue for the past decade, especially for your less prominent sports. Volunteers do have to undergo a background check and approval now from the county if they are not employed with the school system though.
Pretty sure this is another "dawgman lies again" thread more like.
Coeburn has 7 coaches like Andrew as of this year with the new additions, 2 of them are Family Preservation and aren't county employees even though they are in the school. All get paid by the county and are as such employees of the county. Have to go through the same process of background check and everything, only difference I know of is the contract that teachers sign every year.
Is Turner the head coach of Union, or have they sorted it all out yet? And what happens with Austin since he was the head coach of Appalachia? Will he continue by helping coach Union? I've been unable to keep up with much of this stuff. I'm aware of the new school names and mascots, but not who will coach who or if that's even been decided at this point. Thanks for any information.

Some people on here two faced!!! It's ok for some people to get on here lie and put down the board members that are against consolidation but let someone get on here and say something about the members that are for consolidation and they are starting trouble. Mr R13 your the biggest one of them all!!!!
And what have I said? Yeah I've called the 4 up there some names, like idiot, but from their actions as a board member ...that's what they are.
Another one he told.... No one will lose their job because of consolidation.
He's never said that, nice try.
He was hired because he started the peace in wise county site
http://vmedia.rivals.com/images/smilies/roll.gif You're friggin' clueless. That's a straight up lie and not one told by "him" but you. For God's sake, just quit.
This was part of a letter that Dr.Perry sent out before the BOS voted for level funding.
6. Displacement of Teachers
We presented a proposed plan of consolidation to the School Board which detailed moving the smaller high schools into the larger high schools. We have attached the PowerPoint presentation for your review. In this plan, there would be approximately 29 classroom teachers displaced. It is our plan to ask our School Board and the Board of Supervisors to fund all current positions so that no one will lose a job this year. It is our hope that we can continue funding these positions and allow attrition and resignations to reduce our teaching force. If we can secure support from the Board of Supervisors, we will be able to maintain current instructional positions and allow those individuals to fill the vacancies created by future resignations/retirements. We will know more about this when we present the budget to the Board of Supervisors and then inform all staff members of what the budget will mean to our employment decisions within the division.
They got level funding but teachers and aides lost jobs.
"No one will lose their job because of consolidation."
Hmmm, how is that what he said in what you just posted?
No need arguing with a "dimwit" like dawgman, R13. You can't argue with stupidity.
