USA-Sweden Women's World Cup on ESPN now. Winner wins the group and draws Aussies in knockout round. Loser gets tough Brasil bunch
Not a good start already down 2-nil.
Laid an egg and now draw Brasil. Not at all what we wanted no doubt
Not what Brazil wanted either, it would have been easier if they had won, but this isn't like the USA/Brazil matchup in mens...they're the real deal, best team in the world. Playing the Aussies would have been a lot easier, but they're still the favorite and should win. Really hope to see them take on Germany in the finals.
You would have thought by being upset by Sweden already this year that the USA would have came out ready to go. Very letdown by the effort today
It didn't really look like an effort problem to me. Maybe not as focused as needed but deflected goals off US players giving Sweden a goal, a penalty kick a few minutes into the match, missed wide-open goals, easy goals bouncing off the post. Seemed more like a case of catching the shat end of the stick instead of an effort problem.
Looks like the US women will be out of the WWC next round.
I think they will handle Brazil. 3-0 is my prediction.
Hasn't the US won the last 4 matches against Brazil?
Both teams have progressed. But 3-0? lol If the Americans defend Marta well then they have a chance.
Good one on right now. England/France, second half of extra time knotted up 1-1 after France tied it up 88 minutes in.
120 minutes later and headed to penalty kicks. Gotta hope the underdog Brits pull the upset. Most thought France would handle the English with ease
Frenchies escape and will play USA-Brasil winner in the semis
Germany-Japan now
Japan trying to shock the soccer world pushing defending world champ Germany into extra time on German soil. Japan's speed is offsetting the German's size
GOOOOOOOOOOOOALLLLLLL! Japan
I was just about to post, WOW. This would be a pretty massive upset, two-time reigning World Cup champs being knocked out in the quarters AT home? Woah. Really wanted to see USA/Germany in the finals though.
They have gotten some GREAT looks too the past few minutes and have come up empty.
True, this was unbelievable, I don't think anyone seen this coming. Losing at home in the finals would have been a huge upset, but this early too? Ah, kudos to them. Really wanted England to pull the upset earlier, but fell short after that insane shootout. Really didn't think Japan had a chance, I mean they're a top 5 team, but I thought Germany would be getting their 3rd in a row at home.
USA strikes PDQ and up 1-0 on Brazil
OMG are you all watching this? WTF? I have never seen officiating like this. Yeah you'll score when you get TWO penalty kicks. The USA just got hosed as bad as I have ever seen. In addition we are now down a player
Screw job. That head official has been shit the whole match.
...and it keeps getting worse.
Travesty. Main reason why I dislike FIFA. The officiating is always horrid
If there's any justice in this world Brazil will not win the World Cup. Even the neutral fans are livid
GOOOOOOOALLLLLL
going wild at my house. I think I just popped a lung. WE ARE LEVEL!!!!
Wow.
btw... I'd like to let Hope Solo come over for a sleep over.
rekick... sweet!
revenge, baby.. come on.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOo!
BYE BYE Brasil
Let's see ya dancin now biotchez!
Has to be one of the most exciting sports moments I've ever seen, couldn't have played out any better. Pumped beyond belief!
That stupid Australian hag did everything she could to f the US. I'm glad they were able to overcome it.
and the lowdown move with the fake injury gives us the time to tie it. Talk about poetic justice
Look for this to springboard the Americans to the first WC title in over a decade
One of the best games I've ever seen. The Americans deserved to win it. Playing with 10 women after that bullshit red card, and with the 2 pk's that shitty ref gave Brasil. Just shows what heart and determination the Americans played with. Next up the French on 7/13.
I know it would be a huge, huge, huge let down if they don't win it all. I'm still pumped, it couldn't have been anymore dramatic. That controversy with the kick, the diving and taunting by Brazil, the perfect set up for that header with just what a minute left? The player that was supposed to miss the kick, did and the last kick to seal it all...just couldn't have been any better!
