Question to the Moderators and members of our Altec Family!
Hello All,
First off, I am a proud member of this group. I am not a middle-man of anything just want to see if my request will be permitted here in our forum. Here it goes...
I have a friend who wants to sell Altec drivers. He is not a member here and he does not participate in any audio forums. In fact, he does not even know that I'm trying to help him out and will tell him about it once I got the go signal to post pics of the drivers here.
Once I get the permission, I will post the pics and his email info. For those of you who will be interested on the stuff he have, you can email him directly and do your business with him. I will be out of the loop after I post the infos. I just want to help him out by getting some "exposure" of the things he wants to sell. Nothing else.
Is it okay to post this type of stuff here in our forum?
Best regards,
Abe

Re: Question to the Moderators and members of our Altec Fami
Todd has final say...but at this point with the classifieds not working....not much else you could do.
I would post with the caveat not yours as you did here.
It's a two way street, yes it helps your friend to get money, but it also helps somebody to get drivers.
I think it best not to bother Todd with small issues, if you get several ayes, I would go ahead.
Will step off my soap box now.
Next?
The one thing I would make sure is the asking price is reasonable. I won't aid people who ask way more than the going rate.

Re: Question to the Moderators and members of our Altec Fami
I'd say OK, post what you've got. Or what he' got. The fellows here will let you know if the price are inline.
Thanls very much for asking first!

Re: Question to the Moderators and members of our Altec Fami
The posting's have been pretty slow around here lately plus I always like to see home pictures of altec goodies. Also I don't really like having to go over to a classified section to see whats for sale....can't we just make a marketplace thread and sticky it?

I second dat emotion. Sellers can delete ads when sold.
Though for referencing other people's stuff I feel that should be it's own thread, just as we do for eBay and CL.

Re: Question to the Moderators and members of our Altec Fami
NOT a problem - THANKS for helping him!
I'm still trying to figure out what's wrong with the classified's...we'll try to get them fixed shortly, or we could try the "marketplace" idea...
What say ye?

Re: Question to the Moderators and members of our Altec Fami
I wouldn't mind seeing a "Marketplace" sticky. When the item is sold, the seller could note it his post.
-
Re: Question to the Moderators and members of our Altec Fami
A market place sticky is a good idea, so long as some basic rules are followed, ie the title/post heading is changed to SOLD when the item sells. Also suggest a format such as username <at> isp <dot> com (<dot> au/uk/etc) for email addresses, to avoid them being trolled and used for spam.
I would go further and say no 'make me an offer' lines. A price should be stated, even if it is 'ono' be used.
Ideally a photo or links to same.

Just use PM's and eliminate the hassle of an email address.

Re: Question to the Moderators and members of our Altec Fami
Possibly, but that eliminates those who are not logged in users of the board, ie those with no Hostboard account, which is a few, as if you do a Google search for Altec, this board often comes up.

Steven says he'll have to buy a software upgrade to get the classified section to work. I think Cradeldorf's suggestion to have a "sticky" classified thread is a winner.

Good point, although a motivated buyer would take the few minutes to join just to enable him to send a PM. However, if he's not that motivated, an (encrypted) email address would make it easier for him.
If I sell any gear on the thread, I'll try to make it as easy as possible for buyers. I'll be sure to include my email address, home phone number, bank account number and bank routing number, social security number, and shoe size! (kidding)

Re: Question to the Moderators and members of our Altec Fami
I have a question concerning the colors.
Why not change the blue to green. DARK GREEN ,MEDIUM GREEN AND LIGHT GREEN.

Re: Question to the Moderators and members of our Altec Fami
Good thinkin'.
(and that would be "OBO" in the USA)
-
Re: Question to the Moderators and members of our Altec Fami
As for colors - Steven says the software allows for customizing, so we'll work on that next week.
We'll also try the "Marketplace" idea then, too....
Thanks for your input!

In retrospect like that better than deleting the ad...
-
Re: Question to the Moderators and members of our Altec Fami
I agree I would like to see the ads stay too, It's nice to have them to reference, but at the same time the pictures will be taking up server space. I'm not sure if that would be a concern or not.

Todd let me know if you would like me to work on it.Steven said as a Super Moderator I have acess to the Hostboard Control Panel. If you want me to look into it let me know. All changes can revert back to default if no one likes it.
@ Abe I'm editing the email address for your friends Safety. We don't want him to get slammed with SPAM ! Then he would have to sort through to find the legit inquires. These forums are crawling with Bot Spiders and will come up in Google search to anyone.I think he should take the time to join and use the PM's, but that's his decision.

If I'm advertising here, I'm specifically making my items available to those people that I "know". If I want to advertise to everyone, I'll use ebay.

Especially for those Hollywood 604's, the Bay will bring top dollar for him IMHO.But is very nice of him to offer it here to us Altec aficionado's first.

Todd, I changed the color as you requested, saved it,updated it to Altec Green and then Nadda !It says color has been Updated. But nothing happens. So I'll keep messing with it to see why it isn't changing. If no luck, I'll PM Steven.

Re: Question to the Moderators and members of our Altec Fami

Talked with Steven. He said he will play with it on a test forum, when he has something presentable will take a look at it.If you like it Todd then we will move it over here.Trying to get it as close as possible to your website Altec's Unofficial Homepage.(Altec Green). :biggrin2:
Addendum: Nothing will be unveiled until it is complete....
