is it time for Central to change to Wise County Central?
in theory Central High was a good name. looking now with reality Wise County Central is the name they should have stuck with and probably needs to be changed to that when they get the new school finished.
btw, where willl the new school be located?
well, crap, wont let me change the title of the thread

Re: is it time for Central to change to Wise Central?
It should never be called "Wise Central", "Wise County Central" would be as far as it should go, but Central is perfect....a lot of Pound kids go to that school now, it isn't Eastside with 50-60 extra kids, wouldn't be the least bit fair and clearly against the rules for picking the names. And a location hasn't been settled on.
-
Re: is it time for Central to change to Wise Central?
The names should have never been changed to start with. Adding 50-75 kids does nothing to the buildings that have been PVHS, JJKHS, and CHS for 40-50 years. A bunch of crying morons is the only reason they were changed. It's still PV, JJK, and Coeburn to me.
-
Re: is it time for Central to change to Wise Central?
I agree with lung and starbuck to. If they were gonna change it They should have named it Wise County Central. IM curious to where the they will be built.
-
Re: is it time for Central to change to Wise Central?
BTW...I'm only talking about the names staying the same at the present schools. When new schools are built the names that are in play now would be perfect.

Re: is it time for Central to change to Wise Central?
The VHSL recognizes us as Central-Wise,and that's how it shows up in their records. Naming it generic Central was hideous, and set itself up for this problem. There are so many Centrals out there you have to specify. Irritated the hell out of me texting update to my buddy last one that said "Central up 20-0" and getting the response "Which one?"

Re: is it time for Central to change to Wise Central?
Should have just said Kelly. ;)

Re: is it time for Central to change to Wise Central?
I'm tellin' you we missed the boat Indian Creek High School Home Of The Redhawks :)

Re: is it time for Central to change to Wise Central?
you see, that's something I have a real problem with. Saying they're going to open a new HS in 2 years yet no location picked. How can they design the school and layout for parking, busses, sports fields, without knowing the dimensions of the property?
Mont. Co. has started moving dirt behind Auburn HS and will have a groundbreaking ceremony in a few days for their 2013 opening. Don't see 2013, even late, for Wise.

From my understanding, the location was picked almost a year ago. CHS will be located behind Gracepoint church across from Lowes (or so goes the common word)

Re: is it time for Central to change to Wise Central?
coalfield said Union will go behind the existing school and Central has yet to be named
-
Re: is it time for Central to change to Wise Central?
Okay, so Union has basically been picked for a while and the property is well known. Only problem is how much disruption to classes will there be. Auburn's new school is also going to be "next door", so it must not be as bad as some ppl. think.
Also, BSG & Coeburn kids will end up not moving, while Wise kids might... that'll probably ruffle some feathers.
-
Re: is it time for Central to change to Wise Central?
It's not like they have no idea where they are going to build it, from what I was told it's between a couple of area's, one basically like Unions would be - right behind it- and where the central office is...more than likely it's not going to be anywhere but a stones throw from where it is now either way.
-
Re: is it time for Central to change to Wise Central?
I would bet my last dollar, it will be where the Central Office is. Wait and see.

Sounds like a good reason to bust the county taxpayers for a new office, too.

Or they could just use the current HS building like they will likely do.

It would still cost the tax payers, because they would have to renovate it, before it could be used as the central office.
-
Re: is it time for Central to change to Wise Central?
Some parts would have to be renovated, but the entire high school wouldn't be and the costs wouldn't be some astronomical figure. They would untilize existing buildings before slapping up a new office if possible. That's all considering they even put it in the central office spot, it might be where the football field is for all we know, that will come out in the coming months...we'll probably have a good idea of what they're likely to do after monday's meeting with the BOS.
-
Re: is it time for Central to change to Wise Central?
"we'll probably have a good idea of what they're likely to do after monday's meeting with the BOS."
You might need to get your facts straight. The meeting Monday night is the School Board meeting, not the BOS (Board of Supervisors). Their meeting (BOS) is Thursday night.
-
Re: is it time for Central to change to Wise Central?
Yup, I screwed that up, they will be getting everything straightened out to present to the BOS, not meeting with the BOS and that's what I meant. Point still remains, we'll know a lot more after Monday.

Re: is it time for Central to change to Wise Central?
All the news outlets, tv and newspaper not in Wise Co call them Wise Central. the more I hear it and the more confusion about who Central is I'm convinced it needs changed to Wise Central or Wise County Central
-
Re: is it time for Central to change to Wise Central?
It's not going to be changed, nor should it be, it's not causing any confusion...there's how many schools around here with the Central part in it's name? And how many with just "Central"? Only one I know of in this part of Virginia at least, maybe one other in the entire state and I know of a Central High in Memphis TN. It's really not a problem at all, having the same mascots is more confusing(blue devils vs. blue devils) then having one part of a name that's in another name such as Central/Sullivan Central, not that confusing or a problem...not heard of any complaints of confusion at all. Reagardless, it was clearly in the rules to not have a town name in the new names, that's the most obvious breaking of that rule and the entire reason it IS Central and not Wise/WC Central as originally proposed.
-
Re: is it time for Central to change to Wise Central?
I have heard complaints about it being confusing. If it wasn't confusing then why is it that the newspapers and TV always put the "Wise" in with Central? It is because they need to have a better description of what Central team they are talking about.
Naming it Central was a flubb-up for sure in my opinion.

So was the rules clearly stated that the old school colors from the 2 existing schools consolidating into one was not to be used. Central used Red and Black - 2 prime colors from Pound and Kelly.
-
Re: is it time for Central to change to Wise Central?
to make it official, this media guy IS complaining. I NEVER call them Central. Maybe next year, or the year after, but not this year, because the casual listener has NO idea who/where "Central" is, OR they think Sullivan Central, because that's the only one they've heard of b4.
Over in KY, there's no problem, because the Centrals all have the co. in the name. In the county, you just call them Central; I'm sure if you were to say Central's playing Clintwood tonight while over in Harlan Co., they'd think HCC, not the one in Wise Co.

So the school that isn't worth renovating is now worth fixing?;) The "office" will never get a "hand-me-down".

Considering both schools had red in their colors, the exception was made, plus black incorporated as well...so you just answered your own riddle. It was a different case with Appy's blue and and PV's for example. If "Wise" wasn't the name of one town, you could probably get away with it in the other two name changes. People can't appreciate how the anti-side picked apart everything and complained, the few papers/wcyb that cover us can't appreciate it either. Really don't understand how confusing it is, everyone around here knows exactly where it is and people in a lot of area's do as well, at least they are as familar with it as they were JJK or JIB...most don't have a clue where the hell they were/are before if they didn't play us and if someone is playing us and don't know where we are, then why are they even playing us? I don't know where half of the schools are located around here, didn't have a clue where Thomas Walker or Twin Valley was for the longest time and it's the same way with a lot of people and other schools...if they don't have to make the trip, they couldn't care less. If you don't know where Central is, you probably don't know where Eastside is either, why does it even matter?
This isn't even considering that the STUDENTS picked the names, the vote was taken with the public and then within the schools, the top names were picked from them and student/parent committee's equally rep. from both schools chose those names/colors/mascots. Changing the name to that not only creates problems from the anti-side, but I don't think the students would be too thrilled with the admin. changing what they picked, designed the logo's for and have embraced just so a few people might know where one of the schools are located as if it's the least bit relevant to them. Way too much hassle for really no reason whatsoever.

Big difference in redoing a few rooms for a small staff, as opposed to tens of millions to upgrade everything for the entire schools that thousands of kids will be using and abusing for the next 50 years - all while having to renovate several times again during that time.
-
Re: is it time for Central to change to Wise Central?
but why was the exception made when before they even picked colors it was told that No colors from the old schools would be used in the new schools? seems it is ok to break one rule and not another? and as far as JJK or JIB, there was just one Kelly there is several Central's so that is the difference. Has nothing to do with where the school is, it has to do with making a designation between the Central name. they could have used Indian Creek Central and it would have seperated it from Sullivan Central, Letcher Central and so on.
-
Re: is it time for Central to change to Wise Central?
Maybe it was because the two schools shared those same colors. Unlike the other four who did not share a similar school color.

It will be changed within 2 years. Hang onto this thread and revisit it in that time. Steak dinner goes to the winner :)

I just said that exact same thing earlier, that's why the exception was made, it was no problem.

Might as well give me the steak now :), because I have personally asked Dr. Perry that very question and was told that these same names will be on those new schools.

You think Perry will be here another 2 years?

His contract is for the next 3 years, I definitely think he will be.

I thought Pound colors were Red & Black.

Basham had a contract too and the SB bought it out. I would say if the election goes the way most everyone, but you, thinks it will, then come January when the new board is "seated" he will go and go a lot richer man. I actually think he has done a decent job, too. At least no worse than any others. In any case, if he does get the "axe" who will they appoint to take his place in the "interim".

Re: is it time for Central to change to Wise Central?
okay.. I didn't realize who they had played this week.
Serioulsy, if I'd heard CYB say Sullivan North beat Central 49-22, I would NOT have thought Wise's Central.

Neither would anyone else outside of Pound and Wise and only those there that follow sports.
